Damascus blades were manufactured from wootz/ukku steel ingots imported from South India. Ancient Indians were skilled metallurgists.

Damascus and wootz are two entire different manufacturing process, damascus steel is just folding multiple layers of steel, whereas the wootz is prepared in a curcible or pot and it is sealed. The examples of blades in syria are wootz not damascus. so actualy damascus are not damascus instead they are wootz. The manufacturing process of wootz was lost but again developed in 08-09. Wazir Khan (real name Hakeem Ilm ud din Al-Ansari) was the founder of Wazirabad and also of the Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan ; not to be confused with another , cruel Wazir Khan (Mirza Askari) . The Lahori Wazir Khan belonged to a famous "Hakeem family" of the old Walled City, which produced many famous people in history, that family used to have medical /Unani treatment centers in both Lahore and Amritsar during the Sikh rule, later. Regarding bone and antler handles, i have also seen some similar very good quality work in Sambhal area of UP, in India. At one time, local artisans used to be the backbone of industry.

thank you, chef. i had heard wazir khan's name in sikh poetry as a big bad villain, and always thought our lahori wazir khan of wazir khan masjid was the guy. so, there is a lahori wazir khan and a sirhindi wazir khan. thank you for your comment.

@@hassancheema2268 ji Most welcome ji. Waheguru di kirpa howay 🙏🌸😊 Yes that's right, two very different 'Wazir Khans" , one from Lahore, one from Sirhind. Though I have not physically visited Lahore but my elders used to stay there and spend time there for very long prior to 1947; and I have read a fair bit of the recent history from Sikh rule and later, also heard some old family accounts . Though in Mughal employ, Hakeem and Shaykh Ilm ud din Al-Ansari had family connections to Lahore and Chiniot, his ancestors came from Herat and before that, from Constantinople (now Istanbul), direct in descent from the Islamic hero Abu Ayub Al-Ansari , companion of Prophet Muhammad , though of course, after the lectures of Salman Rashid ji we can take a more critical approach to such family pedigrees 😆 However , Ilm ud din and his descendants and relatives had a more broad based and tolerant approach and had many Hindu and Sikh clients and also spiritual followers , because this Hakeem /Shaykh family of Bhaati were also Sufis. In later times, they developed Bazaar e Hakeeman in old Lahore and Katra Hakeeman in Amritsar . In the rule of HH Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji, Hakeem Gul Muhammad was a famous personality , related also to the Fakirkhana family of Lahore . I think the grandson or great-grandson of this Hakeem , was the famous writer, poet and playwright Hakeem Ahmad Shuja who was also the first to document sine memoirs and a brief history of Bhaati gate area of Lahore in the 1950s or 1960s? It was a very famous book, sorry I forgot the name . Maybe you can find that book there and follow it and research and trace more of the literary and cultural history of your city , and possibly add some KZbin vlogs on this ? Good luck ✌️🌸🌸

Basically Damascus steel is combo of two different types of steels, These steels are folded hundreds of times. Here in WazirAbad we have 100 Million dollars annual exports of these products.

That's right. I believe just the Chadda set up alone exports a few hundred different kinds of knives and swords to the West.

Thank you sir for another episode, the samples of blade which you have shown of damascus, are not cheap they are most expensive type of blades available in the market,and if they are professional knives which are used by chefs, they will cost upwards of 10-20 thousand dollar per knife.

@@arainmk I read the Dawn article. It is very well-written. The writer has done his research well. Singhapura ruins once lay outside the village Dulmial, about two km north of Ketas Raj. I saw the mound back in 1988. It had been levelled ten years later.

Damascus Steel was supposed to be the hardest steel and the swords made of Damascus Steel were much sought after. The Turks had a monopoly over it and these swords can be attributed to the use of these swords. However the technology of making Damascus Steel has been lost. The swords had these distinct patterns, which are being etched on these blades nowadays. These are not Damascus Steel Swords / Daggers. On a second note, there is no way anybody could match the skills of the Japanese Katana makers, which is religion to them. Please do watch some videos here on KZbin.
