I like this kind of "aikido duel" I will see if I can incorporate something similar into my own training.

My Aikido sensei saw this video too. We got to practice this as part of the formal class and afterwards. Great content thank you everyone involved.

It's weird how difficult it is to maintain the old Aikido. I've trained with several of O-Sensei's students, and they are amazing. I once trained with a 9 dan Hanshi, who's name I don't remember, but it was the most incredible practice I've ever had. We did kokyuuhou practice, like they do at the end of this video, and what happened felt like magic. I was in my early 20s, and me and my friends would have fun trying to be difficult with the old masters. I was trying my best to be difficult, but this sensei somehow moved my insides. I can't even describe it. Rather than using my point of balance and a pivot point to throw me, he manipulated where the balance point was inside my stomach, and that put me out of balance so much I didn't have a chance to keep my balance. Usually it's always a couple of fingers below the bellybutton, near the middle of the core, but imagine it just shifted and started moving erratically. That's what he did. I was confused and dumbfounded, and we had a very fun training.

Hai, aikido is so excellent because of so much openess. Only giving time an understanding can reveal enough of it to see it's true nature as a path to peace.

Это назывется не дать сделать технику. Можно так же попробовать это сделать с другими приемами. Мне кажется получится интересно. Есть так же техники выполняемые мы сменой ролей. То есть первый делает технику, помощник не дает ее выполнить и сам делает контрприем.

I am surprised Shirakawa Sensei doesn't understand Aikido is an art for mercy. It is not for attacks.

Iam not really sure but I think it was forbidden by the schools of ancient times to share one another's techniques.

There is a concept that you shouldn't have a "battle" with two Aikido practitioners who are both fighting with Aikido techniques. If there is a battle, it should be only one of the combatants who is practicing Aikido and the other who does anything but practice Aikido techniques. The reason for this is in the nature of how Aikido works. Aikido works with the practitioner is who is feeling the opponent's energy flow. What they normally do with this flow is redirect the energy into a joint lock. This is a problem when there are two practitioners who are both simultaneously feeling for the opponent's energy flow and trying to lead that energy into a joint lock. The consequence of such a battle is a significantly increased risk of hyperextending the joints to the point of joint damage because the consequence of resisting a joint lock is damage to the joint.

@@Eternaprimavera73At that time a 外人 生徒 ,gaijin seito (foreign student ) had gone to the Ibaraki Dojo of Aikido in Tokyo and blocked all his partners during keiko, and this annoyed Saito Sensei, also because others behaved in the same way, but this subject had become the proverbial straw that had overflowed the jar of Saito Sensei's patience because this practitioner - knowing in advance what technique he would have to undergo as Uke, in fact, he blocked every action of the Tori on duty and so in the end Saito Sensei excluded him from the tatami for a certain period of time until this subject understood the lesson and returned to practice in a more respectful way.

@@Eternaprimavera73the basic concepts of Iwama Aikido is to perform our technique when our partner performs his, respecting the timing established by those who direct the practice. In doing so, the attacker will still be busy executing his attack and will not be able to oppose our action. In the event that Uke then resists, in general, we should use his strength to our advantage and not counter it. Keiko with a Uke who resists can be an important and profitable part of our training. Still, it is appropriate that this happens between companions who know each other well, so that we can act with mutual benefit while remaining in a situation in which the safety of both is sufficiently guaranteed, without the confrontation degenerating into a violent brawl or a sort of tug-of-war in keikogi.
