Hi, I see that I have already left a comment years ago, I fell again on the same video. I think that there is a problem. If it is about mirroring neurons, there shouldn't be necessarily a contact. On the other side we cannot call mirroring, the physical manipulation of somebody else, basing on how our change in the balance influences physically the other person because of the laws of the balance, and not because of an internal need to mirror the other person. I would appreciate an answer from the author if he agrees or he doesn't.

Are you talking of the #1 release, Terrence? It helps to clarify...

Alll of that is true but I wouldn't rely on this to build strategies in which I have to commit myself to make the other to commit. It can be my lack of comprehension, of course.

The thing is in a fight we aren't all nice and relaxed and slow and keeping one hand back at all times We're tense, active, moving and doing everything we can to win So this 'just hold my hand and i'll lightly guide you up while making barely any contact' isn't of much use in real applicable combat. Now of course you may practice an art like aikido for other reasons besides that, but i say this because i see these elements influence your judo instruction. And while ju and aiki are similar principles, they are not the same and so when these elements of aikido leak into judo they contaminate the learning by diluting everything down to 'here i poke him in the chest and he flies back fifty feat... Interesting'

What REALLY makes this work is the "intent". Your energy or your intent needs to be streaming out through the partner. If it is not, you will only move their arsm or their hands. In actuality there is no power at all at the point of contact. It is the "intent" that creates the unity. Aikido folks say extenbd Ki but that has been so misunderstood as to not be helpful. Hiroshi Ikeda Sensei would say "send it", meaning your intrent. Gleason Sensei talks about the "line of intent" going out through the partner. The point is do not put your attention on the ponit of cotact or that will be where the energy goes. And don't put it "at" your pertner but rather through them. To learn this, just try to visualize that you are streaming energy through your partner to a space just behind them. That should give you some success.
