Having a baby's ears pierced is actually very common in the Asian countries. All the girls in my family had our ears pierced when we were infants. It is a sort of tradition; a part of our culture.

Getting a child’s ear pierced at a young age is a tradition in most South Asian countries. Ok many of you may be concerned about her but she’s fine. They are her parents they know what they’re doing. And she can always get them removed when she’s older. When I got my ears pierced I was quite young and so when I was older I didn’t have to spend hours thinking about how painful it would be. Please respect cultures and get your facts straight before criticising.

Awe! Aila's so cute with her earrings.People should know how to value and respect others culture. If its not acceptable to others to pierced babies that early, then its fine but it is also common/normal to Filipinos to pierced thier children as early as Aila's age.Don't know why its a big deal? Its like eating rice in every meal is common to Filipinos, It won't be called distinct filipino/asian culture if it like that in other cultures.Besides they are her parents they know whats best for her.

To other people talking about the ear piercing I guess I could associate it to being part of Filipino culture, cause almost every baby girls here have ear piercing at a very young age and I believe there is no big deal even when we grew up it's just a normal thing . To be honest, I am actually glad my mom had my ears pierced when I am little cause I don't think I can endure it now and I love wearing earings if she had not done that idk if I can wear earings even if I want to. Please don't judge them immediately. :)

Ben Gas oh yes parents deciding to pierce their children ears is the reason why they are soooooooo behind....Jesus do yall literally listen to yall self when yall talk? I personally can't speak for these people because I'm like the typical southern usa person, but here we do the same thing. Most parents decided to give their daughters or sons earrings at a young age. I got mines done when I was a baby and so did my sister. Personally I don't think I would do this to my future childrem but this has nothing to do with economy and being political correct, it's a tradition. That's it.

XxTamaraXx Thank you for being open minded. The reason why people are so divided nowadays because we lack respect. I don't demand others to understand why they did it but all I'm asking is Respect for the culture and not judge the parents because it feels like they are judging other Filipino parents too. Again Thanks!

SarahBev I had my ears pierced when I was a month old. a lot of babies do where I'm from in Africa and all of us don't remember it or pain. I don't wear earring by choice except for special occasions and I do like the freedom of just putting one in whenever I want one

Can people please understand that piercing a baby girls' ears is very normal in asian culture. I actually thought at one point that girls get born with their ears already pierced 😂😂 After piercing the little girl would get a pair of earrings that she would keep for as long as she can. I lost one of my pair but I still have the other one. The earring would also be given by the mother or grandmother.

CHILL OUT GUYS! They're Filipinos. It's become a culture in the Philippines to get their daughter's ear pierced while they're young and use their birthstones as their earrings' gemstone. My parents even did that to me, and truthfully, I can't even remember the pain anymore because I was a child then. It's actually better cause the kids won't even remember the pain. Cry now or cry later, they'll cry anyways.

1. Piercing a baby’s ears is considerably less painful than piercing a grown child’s (cartilage in the earlobe fully developed, harder to puncture, plus the child is completely aware of the situation and may move or shake and therefore actually hurt themselves) 2. It’s way easier to prevent an infection on a baby (who is constantly supervised and clean) than on a child that will be constantly touching or removing the piercing

Well yes, it IS part of many Asian cultures, I had my ears pierced too when I was less than a year old. Yall think we doing this just for culture. But the real reason is that when you are that young, your skin is still very soft there and hence it hurts a lot less. Science!! Plus, you probably won't even remember the pain. And the best part is - you look hella cute in all your baby pictures. So what's the big fuss?? It looks like a win-win situation to me :)

Hello! We Filipinos have our ears pierced (for females at least) as early as Aila, some even earlier :) It’s common practice and it pretty much saved me from remembering the pain if I had gotten it later in life. It’s really harmless as long as the parents keep the area clean. And if the child ends up not wanting the piercing they can stop wearing earrings and it’ll eventually close up (based on experience).

same, i pierced my ears when i was the same age as Aila and when i got older (around 2 years old), my ears suddenly got swollen up (my parents say it's because the ear piercer was dirty) and my parents decided to take my earrings off. so now i'm 13 and i still don't wear earrings and the hole closed up, but someday, i will probably get my ears pierced again :))

There are a lot of things done in western countries that aren't really accepted in asian countries, so vice versa, there are things that exist in asian culture that isn't going to be accepted by westerners! I've had my ears pierced when I was a baby, and I'm actually grateful for it because I don't have to go through and remember the pain if I got them pierced when I was older. We do things differently, and it is perfectly alright for babies to get their ears pierced, so everyone, please, just calm down.

It’s part of the Filipino Culture. Boys here get circumcised. Girls got to have their ears pierced at a very young age. Stop telling other people what not to do just because you’re not familiar with it. You’re being ethnocentric. It’s not really a big deal anyway. Someone even commented that they were exploiting Aila’s pain for money, like seriously people? Haven’t you watched the videos of them like I did? My mom FORGOT to have my sister’s ears pierced as a child and now she always complain about it because she’s 18 and she wants to wear earrings but she’s too scared to get her ears pierced.

Not only in the Philippines, it's honestly common everywhere in Asia.. Honestly though I feel like it is better to do so at this age, you don't remember the pain, and if you don't like it when you grow up then well you can just wait for the hole to heal and get covered, which is what people normally do. This is a common practice and tradition for a few races don't condemn these two.. And from deep within my heart I thank my parents so much for doing this when I was very young bc really, I don't think I have the courage to do it at my age now.

I got my ears pierced when I was Aila's age since this is also normal for Vietnamese culture. I don't see this as a problem. The main reason they do it at that age is because it supposedly hurts less than when you get your ears pierced when you're older. Also I'm really glad I had them at that age; my baby pictures look great and I ALWAYS wore earrings up until this age (I'm 21 now). Please don't get so self righteous or offended by this as not all cultures are the same.

I don't get why its such a big deal, its not illegal and this has been going on for over hundreds of years. There has really been no hard evidence that ear piercing is life threatening. Isn't it so bothersome that here they are sharing a glimpse of their culture to the world and people suddenly say or make them feel that their traditions are wrong? How would that make you feel if it were your customs or traditions that were being criticised in such a way? It's totally okay to disagree, but to say that what they are doing is wrong, disgusting, or barbaric (when there really is no lasting damage and it was done in a clean and safe environment) is also wrong. In any case, Aila can opt to have the piercing to close naturally when she grows up if she doesn't want it anymore, all she needs to do is stop wearing earrings. It's not like the pain she felt getting her ears pierced is gonna mentally scar her for life AND if we're talking about Aila's choice on whether or not to get her ear pierced is being taken away, I've had a lot of friends whose parents did not pierce their ears when they were babies and wished that it had been done back then. So please stop the judgment, Aila's parents know what's best for her and millions of people in our country (literally) as well as other people from countries who apparently also have the same tradition, know that getting your baby's ears pierced is not a big deal.✌🏼

Sure it's painful for the child, but it's better doing it early on so they won't remember the pain. Some people need to understand that this is tradition. I don't get why everyone's so sensitive just because it doesn't happen often in their country or culture.

To everyone who is doubting this action of getting a baby's ears pierced, it's completely okay. It's not illegal\violating any laws so there is NO reason to make such a fuss. In Philippines it's very common for parents to bring their babies to get their ears pierced and it's easier to maintain and keep clean on a baby than on an eight year old. It's NOT child abuse or assault! You all need to chill. Edit: Once the child gets older, it's their decision if they want to wear earrings or not. I personally don't wear earring on a daily basis but I do when I want to. At least now I have the freedom of choosing when I want to wear earrings instead of having to go through the pain of getting them pierced at an older age.

It's normal in Spain too. I have my ears pierced since my second day of life. A nurse made the holes in the hospital. I enjoyed my earrings in my childhood, and I love them now. For sure, I will do it to my babies in the future.

I got my ears pierced when I was about her age too. It’s not because of any culture in my case. It’s just that my parents thought it would be a good idea to do it at a young age to avoid me from remembering the pain.

Thank you, not for the video, I can't watch it because for me it's horror seeing a baby cry (and if I can avoid it I always will) BUT for all the comments and all the explanations. That's why I love HiHo and CUT, it brings people together. There is no need for me to agree but I have to except that it's not my decision and it is part of the world, a part I just did not know by now. I got my ears pierced when I was 11, the holes are odd and I don't like wearing anything in it but this is my very own experience, like everyone has individuell experiences. So, again, thank you. LOTS OF LOVE :) (sry for spelling and grammar mistakes, English is not my mothertongue)

To those wondering why the baby had to go through piercing already, you gotta consider the "cultural" aspect of things, right? It may be uncommon to do so in other countries/continents but it's pretty common here in Asia to have the ears pierced at a young age. It's so common that it becomes kind of like a tradition. P.S. you may or may not know but Austin's Dad is a Filipino....and oh, the mom is too!

Omg can you guys chill?! C'mon they're Filipinos like me. In our country, almost all of these baby girls already had pierced on their ears. Which is now so normal to us. Getting a child's ears pierced is no big deal, and please don't judge them quickly. It's our tradition, fyi.

I got my ears pierced when I was less than a week old, done at some lady's house with a needle and thread in the heart of Manila. I lived, Aila lived, millions of Filipinas did too.

As someone who works in an environment where we pierce people’s ears, I can definitely say that there are many pros and cons to both sides, and it ultimately comes down to the parent’s preference. Parents who decide to let their children choose when they are ready to get their ears pierced give their kids something memorable to look back on. It also teaches their kids responsibility as keeping the ears clean and free from infection is something that has to be done diligently for the first few months. Majority of children I’ve pierced leave either feeling giddy and proud from the adrenaline rush or in an absolute sobbing mess. You can’t predict how your child will react so it’s a choice on both the parent and the child’s part to decide when they are ready and if they feel the child is capable of keeping the earrings in and the area clean. On the flip side, many many parents still get their babies ears pierced - regardless of culture. Parents who come from families who don’t have this tradition often refer back to when they got their ears pierced as an older child and mention things like how traumatizing it was to get it done or having to deal with an infection or closed hole. You also have to consider that babies are not fully developed at this stage in their lives, and as a result the nerves in their ears aren’t either. This means that yes, they still will experience some pain at this stage, but it won’t be anything near as painful as getting them done when they’re older. Another benefit to this is knowing that the risk of infection is virtually 100% up to the parents. When you get your baby’s ears pierced you as the parents take on the responsibility of keeping the ear area sanitary for the next few months, in comparison to letting a 8 or 9 year old remember to clean their ears for three months to teach them responsibility. As a fellow Filipino, I was personally grateful my mom had mine done for me as a baby, and it’s a common practice in my family. I definitely can’t fault both parties for their decisions and I hope this helps educate people a little more on ear piercings ✌🏼.

It's great that they got Aila's ears pierced when she's still a baby! But It's just a little harder for the piercer to work with such a little ear. Lol
