Ailee is amazing. When she was on the K variety show "Running Man", her challenge was to sing one of her songs while riding a roller coaster. She did sing the song very well. Even more stunning is when the roller coaster dipped, she actually SCREAMED ON KEY! Pretty sure the sound guy's brains were blown out from between his headphones, but it was amazing. Just look up "Ailee on Running Man Roller Coaster" and you'll see.

I didn't worry about it because Ailee has one of the best vocals in Korea. Plus, I used watch her youtube videos all the time back in the day. She covered Whitney Houston and other old school artist all the time. BUT my mom was all similar to Dame Diddy . She usually dislike people who cover this song but when I showed her Ailee (btw my mom at the time didn't like kpop singers until now) she fell in love with her because of this cover.

If you want to hear some crazy vocals, you should really check out So Hyang and Dimash! So Hyang is a Korean gospel singer and I’d recommend her cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water and Arirang Along. Dimash is a 24 year old Kazakh singer and holy crap, his range is crazy. For him, SOS on the Chinese show The Singer is a good place to start! I would love reactions to these!

@@adara4635 chill, music is always a personal preference. ailee's somewhat husky voice is not my preference. her cover was good, but I don't think anyone will say it's up there with whitney. you also cannot compare ailee to sohyang. despite what all the kpop fangirls/boys think, most kpop singers even the good ones are considered amateurs by trained singers/musicians (even in korea, 'idols' aren't considered real singers except for their teenage fan base). sohyang's voice is like crystal clear and the singing techniques she employs very few singers in the world can pull off.

What I love about this cover is that it doesn’t sound like a karaoke/cheap Whitney impression. She didn’t try too hard to show off or remix the style of the song in anyway. Just reminder that this performance was made to make it her own. Also the end part of her wavy voice was intended 🤣 it was her to show vulnerability, raw emotions and voices to give that connection to the song, emotions and to us. It was an intended part and I think people keep making mistaken that she cracked there because she's almost crying. I saw many vocal coaches reacted and said the same thing about that last part that it was intended on Ailee's part. Because there are differences between cracking and wavy voices. It was wavy for her.

There may be other Korean artists or other nationality artists that cover these classic songs but the one main reason IMO that ailee can deliver on this song is because she grew up in the US and has a deeper connection to the lyrics of the song. If English is your second language i believe it’s harder for the artist to deliver the emotion and only ends up mimicking it based on the original performance.
