About twenty years ago Nancy put out an album of her own. She did very small concerts around the country. I got lucky and got two tickets to see her. A small stage. She gave us two hours of her new music. When she finished most people left my date and me and maybe a dozen others hung around. She signed my CD I had already bought. She then sat on stage and chatted with us wanting to know us. She was waiting for her ride to the airport. Sat there with her purse on her lap and chatted.

In the Deserts of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, I had an old Cassette player ( The flat black one with the handle that you could push play and record at the same time to make a recording) along with two cassette tapes. One was Hank Williams Jr. and the other was of course Heart. These two Artists were a brief restbit from the insanity of war. The music had the ability to take my mind on brief breaks back in time to a better place and time. They were a piece of home. Awesome choice. I've seen Heart twice live, once in '89 once in '14, both times were awesome! You'll have to hit the early days standards now "Barracuda", and "Magic Man". I'd suggest the slightly deeper cuts "Dog and Butterfly", "Heartless", and "Even it Up" from that era too. Then the 80's greatness that is "Alone", "Never", "Nothin' at All", "These Dreams"(where you'll get to see Nancy really shine vocally), and "All I Want to do is Make Love to You". Then, "Who Will You Run Too", "Stranded", "Will you Be There (in the Morning)". There last 3 albums were pretty darn good to. Kind of a shame the sisters aren't touring together any more. But, they're both still playing, so that's the important part.

Great band, great song, great reaction! Ann's the GOAT as far as I'm concerned, and her sister Nancy (the guitarist) is right up there as well. I saw them in 2014 the night they recorded live at Caesar's Windsor for the newest live album at the time, and they were still kick ass. My favorite live DVD of theirs though, is 2002's Live In Seattle. Ann's at her peak here, imo. Every track they do is 10/10 and each one is here on YT. I'd love to see you react to a few from that show, it doesn't get nearly enough reaction love. Alone is heartfelt and powerful, and when she hits what the fans call "The Note" in that performance, it sends chills down your spine. For a prog experience, do Mistral Wind from that show. It's my favorite version. For straight bangers, Crazy On You, Magic Man, Straight On, Barracuda, Wil Child, and this particular cover of Led Zsppekin's Battle Of Evermore is killer. The climax during that one is second to none. For softer ballads, do Dog & Butterfly, These Dreams, Dreamboat Annie, and the premiere of a little known track where Nancy plays a guitar with Bow. I can't think of the name of it atm but it has an Eastern/ Middle Eastern feel. Hope to see you do one or some of these. If you decide to do the whole show, you'll be better for it. Until next time!

A great choice and a great reaction, Aileen. I'm so glad you loved Heart, especially from this period. ♥ While the original band was from Seattle, they called my Vancouver, Canada, home for several years, before the fame. I first saw them when they played at one of our high school dances. Yeah, it was cool to see two women take centre stage, but the rest of the band were also incredible. Their early sound was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, mixed with Rock, Folk, Gypsy/Roma, and R&B. The lead singer, Ann Wilson, also played flute in those days. Her sister Nancy is the acoustic guitarist on this song. Over the next year or so, I caught their shows wherever I could. From free concerts in the city parks to playing at the local roller skating rink to whatever club I could bluff my teenage self into. I saw them so many times that the band began to recognise me, though we never talked. The last time I saw Heart live was August 27, 1978, at an all day outdoor show at the old Empire Stadium. They were the last act on, following on the heels of the amazing harmonies of The Little River Band. After a baking hot August day, the sun was setting and a cool breeze was now coming over us from the Pacific Ocean. Behind the stage and across the inlet, the lights of Grouse Mountain provided a warm backdrop to the show. My friend and I had staked our place on the field, standing about the fifth row, getting the best spot over an audience of about 40,000. As Heart took the stage and began to plug in, Nancy spotted me in the crowd and gave me a wave, before letting her sister know. Ann also smiled and waved. At 16, I was in heaven. Then they played and the night was capped with music that massaged my ears. They debuted songs from their new album that night, Dog And Butterfly. Nancy's voice was gorgeous, especially her performance of the new album's title song. Soft and lilting, wafting through the warm night air while the breeze lightly lifted her hair as she sang. A magical night, indeed. It wasn't long after that the original band broke up and Heart consisted of Ann and Nancy and whoever played behind them. They had a long strong of hits into the 80s but, to me, nothing they did after could top the original Heart at their peak in 1978.

I'm so envious! Heart was a band that I had loved to have seen, but hadn't. 😞 What years were they living in Vancouver? I spent the summer of '72 there but probably too early? Cheers from an Ontario girl....who'd rather be in B.C.
@Sp33gan Жыл бұрын
@@CharCanuck14 I don't doubt you saw bands that I'd have loved to have seen but couldn't, as well. Heart moved here about 1973, as it was '74 when they played my high school. Dreamboat Annie came out in '75 and they still were based in Vancouver and recorded at Mushroom Studios downtown. It was an exec at Mushroom, trying to create publicity, who made some stupid hinted remarks about the Wilson sisters possibly being more than just siblings and bandmates that caused the immediate rift between the band and studio and gave Ann the inspiration for writing Barracuda about the guy, feeling not just hurt and betrayed, but furious about the insinuation. For a long while it seemed as if there were bands everywhere. A couple of guys from Trooper lived next door. Neighbours of my first girlfriend were members of Loverboy. I went to school with Prism's Al Harlow, though he's a few years older. He and I have had some great conversations over the years and I've yet to be able to take up his offer to sing a few with his continuing version of the group. BTO was first known as Brave Belt, with original Guess Who singer Chad Allan, and they also played our high school, as did Trooper when they were known as Applejack. Bryan Adams lived down the street from me, only a year older, but already immersed in music. When Nick Gilder went solo from Sweeney Todd, Bryan was his replacement when he was still 16. I met Doug Bennett (Doug and the Slugs) a few times, through a mutual friend, and he was the nicest guy. A former bandmate is close friends with Drew Arnott from Strange Advance. I made a friendship with Bill Cowsill when he lived here, well after his 60's teen idol days with his family. If you get the chance to check out Bill's band The Blue Shadows, I'm sure you'll hear some more music to love - a blend of Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Hank Williams and more. Musicians were everywhere, as I'm sure they were in Ontario during those years. At 12, I started working nights in a local club (I had a full beard at an early age so I looked older) and every weekend was a parade of great live bands who worked up and down the west coast. Some should have had their lucky break and a few got the chance. I hope you can make your way back to BC, though we're probably a lot more expensive than you'd remember. Vancouver has changed drastically since '72, much less the beautiful and hidden city no one ever heard of to becoming filled with buildings that block the mountain views. I'm an Ontario boy who moved out here with parents and siblings when I was 4. Sorry for the novel. 😁 Hey, if you get the chance, sometimes this song pops up on KZbin before it quickly disappears. In '77 or early '78, Bryan Adams released a Disco single called Let Me Take You Dancing which was unintentionally hilarious. The producer sped Bryan's voice up so he sounded like a girl. To this day, Bryan hates that song and goes out of his way to erase it from social media. 😂

You could listen to the original Alone record but personally i think the Philharmonic version shows how Ann's voice hasn't changed a bit from the 70s and shows how she adapts to those difficult notes at 66 years old, you could even react to both and compare notes :). If you want to hear Nancy Wilson's main vocals i suggest reacting to These Dreams. The sisters are the greatest female rock vocalists of the century.

Ann (singer) and Nancy (acoustic guitar) Wilson, the darling sisters of my hometown Seattle. I (and others) fell in love with them and their music when they came on the scene during my junior high school years of the mid 1970s. Definite pure rock and roll of those days.

Dear Aileen and all your followers: yesterday in Belgrade we welcomed the gold 3×3 basketball players, the silver basketball players of the World Cup from the Philippines and the conquerors of the U.S. Open Novak Djokovic. It was total madness and an unforgettable celebration! We want to spread positive energy to all of you, the party continues today. We love you all, especially OUR Aileen! 🙏♥️🤘🏻🍺🎆

Have to admit Federer was always my fav. tennis player because I liked his style and attitude. But after Novak showed the world his integrity and iron will by refusing to be forced to take the highly dangerous ''clot shot'' and therefore wasn't allowed to play in a few Grand Slams to which he was in competition with Federer and Nadal to have the most GS Championships, Novak is now my fav. tennis player. Congrats to Novak on winning the US Open this month! Federer is retired and Nadal (who sadly showed his bad sportsmanship by supporting the dictators banning Novak from the Australian Open. Also I've always suspected Nadal was taking roids lol) has a broken old body and I doubt he can win any more Grand Slams. I hope Novak can win a few more to break the tie with women's GS leader Margaret Court and make it really difficult for any men's player to overtake his record.

When Heart hit it big in the 70s, I don't recall any fans or critics ever making any disparaging comments about two female leads. People just knew immediately, this was not a group to be messed with. Of course over the years they have gained legendary status, but back in that day, you have to understand how difficult it was to be respected as a female rocker. You HAD to be worthy.

Heart is an awesome band. Saw them in concert many times in the 70's and 80s. Their original line up, who appear in this video, is the best of them. Give credit to Roger Fisher on lead guitar for composing that amazing riff.

Ann's voice is truly unmatched, and to believe this is a live recording. Heart is one of the few bands that sound better live than in a studio. Part of me wishes Ann and Freddie had made some recordings or sang live together. That would've been amazing both in vocals but also the stage performance.

Wait, so have you never seen Heart doing Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" Live at the Kennedy Center Honors?...Dude!!! It's absolutely epic, with the remaining members of Led Zeppelin in the audience and John Bonham's son playing on drums! One of the best live performances ever recorded.

"Silver Wheels" is the title of the acoustic piece Nancy Wilson starts the song with . This is the original Heart line-up headed up by the Wilson sisters , Ann on vocals & Nancy on guitar & vocals . The rest of the band , Roger Fisher on Lead Guitar , Howard Leese also on Guitars & keyboards , Steve Fossen on bass & Mike De Rosier on drums . I've been lucky enough to have seen this lineup of the band , most likely on the tour that this video was shot , for the 1st time as my 1st "Theater" show . Up to that point I'd only been to shows at MSG and it was a treat to see a show in a 3,500 seat theater with seats in the orchestra . My total number of times seeing the band is 4 & they were spot on great each time 🙂

Heart is full of just that -- loads and loads of heart. What more can I say about Ann Wilson that has not already been said here? Absolutely amazing singer. Heart came to a local county fair in California around 2007. The entire state went nuts when the news broke that they were scheduled to appear. Tickets were sold out immediately, needless to say. The only reason I obtained one was because my daughter's boyfriend knew someone who was affiliated with the fair in Madera. A lot of us thought Heart would back out of the gig. This was not a big fair. But they did not back out. The concert area was outside, and it wasn't a very big space. The fair officials allowed an overflow area to be opened. Heart blew us away. They performed two encores. Because the concert area was small, it added more of a personal feel to the performance. Ann and Nancy were very gracious. They engaged the crowd. The stage couldn't have been more than 10 feet from the front row. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Loved your reaction. Your love of music and talent is contagious. Keep on r'actin .

They learned this style of building a song through their admiration of Led Zeppelin. The respect Zeppelin had for Heart was evident in that this is the only band Zepplin gave permission to cover their songs.
