AIM Photonics: Who we are, what we do, and why we matter

We are the American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics - AIM Photonics for short. We're proud to be one of nine Manufacturing Innovation Institutes established and managed by the U.S. Department of Defense to advance new technology and capabilities into products and systems that help secure our national defense and economic priorities. Our role is accelerate the transition of integrated photonics from concept to manufacturing-ready defense and commercial application prototypes.
To do so, we've created the nation's first complete end-to-end silicon photonic manufacturing ecosystem from photonic integrated circuit (PIC) design to fabrication to final test, assembly and packaging.
We provide affordable technology on-ramps, as well as access to strategic U.S. government, industry, and academic communities to help small and medium U.S. business enterprises develop and manufacture the innovative products and services that will shape our future.
We operate our integrated photonics prototyping services through the Albany Nanotech Complex, the most advanced publicly owned 300 mm wafer R&D facility in the world, and at our state-of-the-art 300 mm test, assembly, and packaging facility in Rochester, NY, where we provide advanced wafer-level and die-level test and assembly for electronic and photonic packaging.
