As soon as Zach dropped the "Julie Saracen" (perhaps) comment, I knew this was going to be epic. This episode does not disappoint. It's on continual repeat for me.

I have died and gone to heaven. What a DELIGHTFUL conversation and I'm so glad that Aimee is getting the credit that she deserves. Matt and Julie's relationship is why I stayed with the show especially because Zach and Aimee's chemistry is palpable and still evident to this day. Like someone wrote below, the love is real. Thank you team for sandwiching this episode in between the end of S1 and S2. Like Scott said, the S2 premiere is quite jarring. I think the only two people I could tolerate are Landry and Tyra. Watching this softens the blow. So glad that no one liked the Swede storyline. [barf] But it's a small price to pay for the great overall arc of Matt and Julie individually and as a couple. p.s. Zach, the correct answer is that M&J had a long engagement and only came back to Dillon to periodically visit. Julie never changed her last name. ;)

Needs to be rebooted So cut to, Matt and Julie are married, he’s the new Coach. Of course, Julie is the new Principal. Riggins has a son who’s the star of the football team and Julie and Matt have a 15 year old daughter he’s in love with. Coach and Tammy have guest spots as grandparents. Riggins sons mom is Lyla but they aren’t married, he ended up with Tyra. The cue to Landrys son who’s the nerd and Riggins sons best friend. It would sooooo work and people would love it!

I was thinking Saturday night lights, going through smashes journey to the NFL. Coach makes some cameo appearances, everyone there for draft night. I would love that, especially with all the character development of smash when he was a minor character trying to make it to college.

@@jCouzito that was a missed opportunity. I would have loved a spin-off show following Smash going through the HBCU and then transferring as a Junior to a Division 1 school which would have been another big challenge.

Your memories of working on FNL remind me of my experiences leaving home to go to college. You are thrown into a scary experience far from your childhood comforts. Nobody tells you at the time but life will never be better than those few years. The camaraderie and hijinks can never be duplicated when the reality of adulthood kicks in around 30. Great pod! Legit, Friday Night Lights is, in my opinion, the best show ever made. It’s an artistic masterpiece. It’s everything a good story should be. And you guys played a huge part in that. And I thank you. My wife and I are rewatching the series for the third time. The show honestly comforts me.

I'm 17 years late to this show. I discovered it because of Kyle Chandler (Just finished an Early Edition binge and as much as I love Coach's character, for me Kyle will always be Gary Hobson) But I think FNL is one of the best dramatic series I've ever seen. Finished the 1st season within 3 days, the second season was done in 2 days. On my third season now but decided to take my time. It's too short! There's something in it that pulls me in. Episode after episode. Made the mistake of reading what the end'll be cause I wanted to see how true it was to the film, and... then I discovered they will lose at the end, which I kinda had a feeling, but it was a darn feeling to not have the hope they will win. Anyway, bring Kyle Chandler, there's no social media to find him. Cheers from Israel.

Agreed! Kyle Chandler will always be Gary Hobson to me too. As much as I liked him in FNL, I loved him even more in Early Edition. It's too bad you can't stream that show anywhere; I have to always break out the DVDs to watch Early Edition.

yup, there's definitely meant to be a parallel there, at first Julie in s2 is also scared of becoming like her parents but by the end her perspective has changed in seeing their marriage as an example of a healthy relationship. her and matt learn to fight for their love and communicate, rather than run away when there's difficulty

Matt and Julie were my faves in the show aside from Eric/Tami, loved their relationship together and how natural the chemistry was. they went through a lot and the periods were they were separated were painful but it made those moments of reunion all the more rewarding. s3 and first half of s4 especially were so good for their relationship especially after s2 breakup lol. and then getting that ending in s5. I think what makes their relationship stand out in the show is how realistic it felt in capturing young love, and how different Matt and Julie's family backgrounds are but they made it work. also I related to them the most as an artsy kid. I loved their shared interest in books/films/music which stood out in the little details of their conversations or dates they went on.

Oh, the episode in season one when Coach was hosting the team barbecue with little notice, the one with the fight under the table. It cracked me up that Tami handed 15 yo Julie money and told her to go to the store and buy all the ribs. I'm like, "Whaaaattt? How is she going to haul 20lbs of ribs back from a grocery store in 90 degree heat? Is she supposed to carry it home by herself? Does she have a pack mule tethered outside? lol
