For those who don't understand, the song is about ACTUAL RAPE. Not what the media did to Kurt. He explains the meaning in an interview he did. The reason the main lyrics are "Rape me" is for two reasons: 1) He did it to show that people don't ask to be raped (by how they dress, act etc) and that that was just a way of silencing the victim 2) Kurt was a big believer in 'an eye for an eye' and so the song is also about the victim saying "Go ahead, rape me, you'll get what's coming to you" which would be the rapist getting raped back in prison Edit: video is linked in comments to back up what I said. If it does not work, just search "Rape me meaning" and you should find it

The "funny" thing is: Kurt wrote it out of the perspective of a rapist who gets raped in the jail - as far as I read. .....a little bit as its sung in "Polly" [before he gets locked up] .....but youre right: He also said: "Im not gay, but would like to be just to piss this rednecks off". With this song, Kurt Cobain wanted to make a strong statement in support of women and against violence toward them. Cobain wrote this from the perspective of a victim replying to a rapist. His song openly about the horrors of rape is Polly, with the name of a rape victim. when it really picks up around 2:15 and the visuals turn to tearing skin and blood.... holy shit... that was brutal and awesome. it is such a powerful visual to accompany the intensity of the song. another cool detail is the clear distinction between the way the two react to the traumatic event. violet wears makeup showing that she has been crying and moves in a way of being emotionally meek and sad by covering her ears and trying to hide. ai reacts super aggressively as shown by the blood on her face as if she took revenge her attacker by biting chunks out of him, and she tears at her skin. Very cool.
