Clips from the Wild Boar Fever series, featuring sights from the Aimpoint® Hunter series.
The history of wild boar dates back to over 11 000 years ago in Sweden. They became extinct but were reinstated on wild boar farms. Escapes from these farms in the 1970s and 1980s established a rapidly increasing population, mainly in the south of Sweden. In most parts of Europe the wild boar populations have been growing since the 1970s. According to the hunting statistics of the Swedish Hunting Association the wild boar strain doubled in less than three years in Sweden during the 2000s. Managing the wild boar population through driven hunt is essential.
As the wild boar population grows stronger, the number of traffic accidents with the animals increases. Wild boar are also susceptible to diseases, especially if the population is too dense. The most serious is swine fever, which can also infect domestic pigs (but not humans). Wild boar have a habit of damaging crops and the managing of wild boar through hunting helps preventing them from destroying agricultural land. The collaboration between hunters and farmers is an important effort to avoid extensive problems. It is a fact that current levels of recreational hunting are insufficient to limit the wild boar population growth. The relative impact of hunting on wild boar mortality has decreased and is currently not enough to prevent the expanding population with increasing negative impacts.
Even though we need to manage the wild boar strain, wild boar hunting should be conducted with high ethics, just as with all hunting. The care we give to the wild animals, the way we conduct the hunting itself, the way we kill the animal and how we treat the killed game, that is contained within the concept of hunting ethics. Hunters see the game as a resource to be managed with a long-term perspective.

I watch these guys on TV now ,they are awesome .always practice and not everyone expects the shooters to be as precise as these guys are but it's a requirement if you want to hunt with them .and they show a great deal of respect to the animals after the hunt .

Wild pigs date back roughly 6,000 years, not 11,000. This guy is super skilled. I know I can't get clean kills on running pigs like that. These driven hunts are weird though. Do they do it this way purely out of tradition, or is it because the terrain is inaccessible?

You need to shoot alotta boars to keep the herd low/steady because they breed so fast. You can't have multiple guys sneaking around hunting individually that wouldnt be safe and not as effective. The dog handlers know Exactly where to walk as to not walk into the line of fire

Why do people hunt with bolt action rifles? Why not use a semi auto to get quick follow up shots?

Reliability and cost. It's perfectly legal here in Sweden to hunt with semi auto's but most hunters prefer bolt actions. I do as well. If anything people with semi auto's often shoot worse than hunters with bolt actions. It's a simple thing, if you can shoot faster you don't bother with the aim as much. Resulting in more animal suffering. And not to mention that semi auto hunting rifles have a tendency to malfunction at the worst of times. And they are much more expensive. My bolt action cost me €900 brand new. Same caliber in semi auto would be €1800. Not worth it. And after 15+ years of hunting I can still get off 2-3 shots in a matter of seconds with a bolt.

I think it's not a hearing protection but a boost of the sounds,protect only when you shoot. However, hearing protection is not mandatory in italy. The others states idk but i don't think so.

"Nem voltam megbízható a fegyveres szakmára" - a komcsi-szoci megszállópribék rendszer szolgáinak, haszonélvező elvtársainak (1973)... Hát voltam, sok éven át "rabsic vadember", kirekesztett "bolond". De: vadásztam és vadat (is) ettünk, a halak és gombák mellett. Kijátszottam éveken át a képmutató vörös, majd posztkomcsi pojácákat. Szabadon, mint a ragadozó vadak ahogy élnek. You often see animals are just shortly irritated by a shot but after a few seconds they calm down (obviously not the ones which are hit), they often dont know what the sound was. A voice of a human on the other hand means a predator is close, so they run away.

Nice shooting it looks like a lot of fun! I always used to wonder why they dont use semi automatic rifles and as fast as they work the bolt I dont think it makes much difference. These folks obviously grew up with nothing but a bolt action, pretty impressive!
