Thanks Joe for the playthrough! We have been wanting to play this for some time and it never seem to be the right time. I have to say the Holy Spirit commanded it was the right time this past Sunday. I play lead guitar and we have two acoustic players. Normally we have a practice together at least once before when there is a song we never played. We just practiced it a short while before service. The Spirit took over and the entire congregation was on fire. Our pastor almost skipped his sermon and had us play on for a while. We still had another cool down song to play...lol His sermon was on David and Goliath and fit perfectly. Normally we don't play after the sermon. Everyone was so fired up and we went back up to play it again and people who normally leave right after service and just about everyone stayed for quite a while. I have never seen anything like it before we are a fairly small church, but the people were on fire for the Lord. So glad we played this one. People said they felt like they were flying up and down. So many came to the alter that day.

Hey Joe, I loved your cover of this song! I just got a brand new guitar board and we are playing this song this upcoming Sunday and I am not sure how to get the sounds out of it the way that you do.
@JoeMcDaniel3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jordan, not sure what you're working with, but here are some key things to get close. You'll want the Amp to be at the edge of breakup, running all effects into the front of the Amp (no effects loop). A Vox style or Fender style Amp would be good starting points to try. When running overdrive before reverb and delay, this gives the reverb and delay that gritty kind of dissonant sound. In the video, I was using 3 different drives, compression, medium mix long decay reverb, and dotted eighth tape delay. Hope this helps a bit!

This is nicely done and very timely, as we are doing this on Easter as well. Can you give us some detail on the delay setting please, besides that it’s from your Kemper? Unfortunately, due to the busyness of Holy Week our band has to practice Sunday morning so I don’t really have time to experiment; I have to program my Timeline and board (midi based - RJM PBC) tomorrow. Sounds like a dotted 1/8 delay will do the nice sustain you achieve on the slide, with some Reverb. I use an H9 for reverbs and will just have to make a guess on that. Thanks again for posting this!!!
@JoeMcDaniel5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill! I used a dotted 8th delay on the Kemper with pretty long repeats. If you have a Timeline, it should do this sound very well (I just bought one, sounds great). The real ingredient for the slide guitar is the delay, for reverb I just used a dark-ish reverb with a long trail. On the Timeline, I'd probably use a Tape delay with the grit all the way down (gets that nice dirty sound when playing notes over the repeats), filter to taste, just a little bit of modulation, higher mix and repeats.

@@JoeMcDaniel Went over very well today in our Easter services. Folks loved it! Obviously an abbreviated version! :+) Thank you again for posting and for the settings help! Amazing Joe! As a pastor, I'm always in awe of God's musical skill in "others" 😁 and am hoping we can pull this song off for next Sunday. We're a small church but we have a few talented guys and gals who love the song. It sounds complicated to me, but again I'm not a musician. So do you need two electrics and an acoustic to pull this off right?
@JoeMcDaniel5 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it! IMO you could definitely do this song with one electric and one acoustic, or even just acoustic. Having the two electrics just really helps with that swampy kind of sound. I'm sure your musicians would have no problem learning it if they love the song! 👍

Can you give a rough explanation of how you get the tone for the slide guitar?

Thanks, glad you like it! I normally have the Superbolt on all the time. The Ohm is used to add a little more grit and thickness.
