I've had the pleasure and honour of watching Matt perform in Ottawa several times. I found him by accident and was raving about him to some of my friends from PEI who knew him well and they were really amused as how I was going nuts over a (then) rather known musician. Matt is a humble gentle tower of talent that still embodies what a true, true artist is. He's humble and shy to the point I wanna say "for fucks sake man, walk a bit taller" .... but I love him for what he is. I believe on the 7th day god took a break yes .... but he made this human. I also believe he closes his eyes on stage because he actually plays for himself and gets so lost in each song, each time he sings it. His cover versions of songs like this and "I'm on fire" is amazing but he is also a poet when it comes to his own song writing. When he performs and is introducing a song, his take in very poetic yet funny and sometimes cheeky, which is really cool. I have a family and am a professional, if not I would so have toured with Matt as a stage hand just to be able to hear him sing night after night (and maybe even jam sometimes) ...... and oh yeah .... I would SO smoke up next time I go to one of his concerts (and I don't even "smoke" that much). P.S. - Matt's so big because you can't house as big a heart as he has in a smaller vessel.

There are other videos from this show and there is indeed a bass player off camera.

The algorithm is obviously not working right if it took 11 years for me to find this. Hell of a voice!

I could listen to you sing your grocery list Matt...ohmygosh, the raw passion, range, purest pitch...mesmerizing. Thank you for your passion, and powerful playin'. Wow, human talent expressed so viscerally, so magnificently, and the delivery, primal in essence, touching in reality, touching the collective on every dimension...the control in that voice and on that instrument...mind boggling, so I'll just feel it and be satisfied and appreciative. Bravo.
