Whitney was first and foremost a gospel singer, hence why she’s so emotive and why she never sings a song the same way twice. Whitney had a well connect voice, from her lower register to her head voice. Whitney had it al: range, diction, melisma, resonance, breath support, volume control, vibrato…all of that plus more including stage presence. When I say she’s the greatest vocalist of all time, I don’t base that on an opinion…it’s just the facts. Not Aretha, not Dionne, not Barbara, not Donna, not Mariah, not Celine…nobody comes close to Whitney. There are so many great live performances of Whitney… A Quiet Place One Moment In Time I Have Nothing (Billboard awards) All The Man I Need (Japan in red dress) The Greatest Love Of All (Wembley) I Wanna Dance With Somebody (arista recurds in black and gold) Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing This Day (green shirt rehearsal) Do You Hear What I Hear I Am Changing (San Francisco 1986 audio only) A Song For You He, I Believe (Japan 1990 audio only) Didn’t We Almost Have It All (Saratoga Springs) Where Do Broken Hearts Go (MSG) …..like I said a lot of live performances…some songs there a so many different live performances that are great but the ones I listed are the ones that I adore the most. You should definitely check them all out. Not to just react but just for you to truly appreciate and understand why she’s The Voice.

Lastly I can understand Celine on your list but please never mention Mariah. Mariah had a pretty tone but she was just not on the level to be mentioned with cELINE, LET ALONE whITNEY. That is why she was called "the voice" because in her prime, there was nobody like her and never has been since. You can also really hear both her mother Cissy Houston's and her cousin Dionne Warwick's vocal influences in her performances at times too. Whitney remains the only artist to have ever had 7 consecutive number one hits in a row and its performances like these that show you why.

Whitney is the best to ever do it, sure there are other singers too who are technically great, and others who have big dramatic voices too. But none have the perfect combination of the beautiful tone and power that WH owned, not to mention her physical beauty.

@@anthonyross4174 if you’re referring to glissando, thats a somewhat common but difficult vocal ability. although very rarely does one keep their tone throughout without ditching their tone like Whitney ….it also sounds like crescendo and decrescendo….but thats more of Whitneys lane than patti. messa di voce if you will
