I just want to add, if you aren’t getting better on AIP (like me) it’s possible your digestion is so bad that your body is unable to extract nutrients from your food good enough to help your symptoms. You NEED nutrients to heal. My suggestion is add juicing to your AIP. Don’t worry about sugar, if I had the room I would explain why. But trust me you won’t overload on sugar if you juice the right things. My favorite juice is cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, ginger and a high nutrient leafy green (kale, chard, spinach). Most of the sugar comes from the apple so just don’t use more than one and use a Granny Smith if you can. Don’t let people tell you that you’re throwing away the healthiest part (fiber), that doesn’t matter in our case. When your digestion is messed up the fiber gets in the way. You want to remove it. Juicing does that for you so your body can absorb copious amounts of nutrients rapidly. Trust meal you’ll feel the difference within an hour or two of your juice. As long as it’s fresh pressed and not bottled from the store. If you don’t have a juicer go to a juice bar to get one and see how it makes you feel. It’s been such a lifesaver for me I was more than happy to invest in a proper mastication juicer for my health.

I have been doing AIP for a few years now, everytime I try to reintroduce my skin goes bad. Now I am just eating everything and skin is very blotchy… Hope to start AIP in the fall again… hope my colon gets a bet better in this time.

Thank you so much for this video! I attempted a re-introduction of sugar snap peas about 60 days in and stepped back until I reach the 90 day point, because I felt tired for a few days afterwards and could not determine whether or not it was just a shift in my schedule or the reintroduction. I appreciate this video. I have a quick question for you. You briefly mentioned foods with citric acid as a preservative. When might something like this be reintroduced, especially if the citric acid is the only ingredient that is not elimination phase compliant? Thanks so much!

I usually say things with citric acid can be reintroduced any time during the reintro process. I'm not sure if Dr. Ballantyne ever really put it in the official schedule, but because it does open up such a wide door for including foods, I think it's fine as a Stage 1 reintro. But do know that it can be derived from several different things - like usually it's derived from corn, and that can affect people differently than when it's derived from molasses, for example. But it's not CORN, so it's a different compound, and I don't believe it contains zein, which is the typical problematic protein (like gluten) in corn. So even if you wind up not tolerating corn, you may be able to tolerate corn-derived citric acid with no problem. But, there is still the possibility that you may have so much of a sensitivity to anything corn-related that it could be a problem. Hopefully that makes sense :-)

@@MicheleSpring this is very helpful. Thank you so much. There are some Spindrift water flavors that I would really like to bring back in, especially pineapple, and the only ingredient I can’t have in that is citric acid. However, the frustrating thing is is that I did not get a solid answer when I asked them the source of the citric acid they use.

I tried to get this diet it says pass word protected. Yet it doesnt have a way to sign up. Okay I signed up but there is no reintroduction of foods just as offer for a book. I cant it up for long. I have scoliosis so I am not reading much, My husband does all the cooking anyway he grew up cooking in a Chinese restaurant fro age 11 he doesn't use recipes.

Your cheat sheet has been so helpful! I do have one question that I can't seem to find the answer to. When introducing foods, such as shelled beans, do I introduce one kind of bean at a time, or if I have one without a reaction, does that mean they are all probably safe? Or do I need to do one by one?

I usually say with most of those grouped things like that that if you do 2-3 of a kind without any issue, then they'll all probably be fine EXCEPT when you get to the nightshades and Stage 4 foods - those I recommend one at a time. Also with things like dairy I recommend the most solid (cheese) first to the most liquid (milk) last as more people seem to tolerate cheese than liquid milk. So with the beans, I'd do 2-3 of them and if those are fine, you should be fine with all of them. Of course there always are exceptions, but that's what I've found works with most of my clients.

I have a question so my thyroid is normal but I am experiencing Hashimoto’s flare ups but they’re saying I do not have Hashimoto’s yet but I am experiencing symptoms why is that ? you only have flareups when you’re not eating correctly right as long as you’re eating correctly those flareups should calm down
@MicheleSpring

Have they tested you for Hashi's antibodies? How do you know they're Hashi's flares? As for eating correctly and flares - you can also get flareups from stress, too much exercise (which is really just more stress on the body), toxins, etc - any number of things can cause flares. If you're doing something like AIP then theoretically the flares should be a lot less intense as the body should be able to handle the other things better, but it doesn't mean they won't happen. You kind of have to look at the body like a whole - what kinds of things may be triggering it to cry out for help (symptoms)? Diet is usually a huge one, but also stress, how much/quality of sleep, too much/too little exercise, are you being exposed to polluted air, mold, other toxins, do you have a gut infection like H. Pylori or SIBO, do you have parasites, etc - look at those areas as well if you're still having symptoms after several months of AIP.
