The Ba Fa Wu Bu (Eight 8 Methods Five 5 Steps) form was recently created specifically for small spaces and distills Tai Chi into its essence of the eight energies (peng, lu, hi, an, cai, lie, zhou, kao) and five directions (forward, backwards, left, right, center). Shifu Shirley Chock taught Ba Fa Wu Bu in this Small Space Tai Chi workshop as part of Lunarfest at Home 20201, organized by Yale-China Association and hosted by New Haven Museum. Lunarfest at Home celebrates the Year of the Ox with 15 days of free virtual programming: www.yalechina....

Love this Question With regards to health benefits, what would you recommend this or one of your Qigong sets, yi jin Jing, 8 brocade or Daoyin. I have a very tight schedule and one, practiced properly, is all the time I can dedicate right now Thank you 🙏 Thank you 🙏 Next time I’m in Milford I’ll stop in and take a class Please advise… Daniel

I think if the goal is health benefits, I would pick one of the Qigong sets. Tai Chi also has health benefits but I view the health benefits as the side benefit. My main goal of Tai Chi (which guides how I teach it) is for internal martial arts cultivation. The health benefits come along as a consequence as opposed to being the main goal. Qigong on the other hand is all about full body exercise through stretching and strengthening and improving circulation. The goal is the health benefit. I think Ba Duan Jin (8 Brocade) is a great routine to do if you don't have much time because it's easier to learn. Only 8 movements and each movement is repeated often so you can get into the flow of it and also break it up into components if you don't have time to do the entire set. Hope that helps and would love to see you in class in the school!

@A priori knowledge applied. In the context of Tai Chi, monism can help practitioners cultivate a holistic approach to their practice. It encourages individuals to view their mind, body, and spirit as interconnected and interdependent, rather than separate entities. This mindset can promote a sense of harmony and balance within oneself, which aligns with the principles of Tai Chi.

Thank you for the video and the explanations. Could you please add the list with the names of the movements?
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ludo ❤ In this particular form, the movements names are combinations of energies + directions, not referred to by special names. Stationary: 1. Peng (expansion/ward off) 2. Lu (rollback) 3. Ji (press) 4. An (push) 5. Cai (pluck) 6. Lie (split) 7. Zhou (elbow strike) 8. Kao (shoulder strike) With Direction: 1. Peng Forward 2. Lu Backwards 3. Ji Left 4. An Left 5. Ji Right 6 An Right 7. Cai Backwards 8. Lie Backwards 9. Zhou Right 10. Kao Right 11. Zhou Left 12 Kao Left 13. Ding (Center)

@@AipingTaiChi It's me again, Bernie. My current teacher is from Beijing and studied old Yang style with Liu Gaoming. According to him, direction doesn't really matter. Since Taiji is a martial art, it would be presumptuous to assume an attack can only occur from the 8 directions.

I do a small space TaiChi yang style 108 using the eight direction more with in a small five foot by five foot space. Never know when you might end up in a jail cell or a highway rest stop stall (a little senior humor). Your form is very beautiful and full of energy
