Air Chase Stalled Forward Loop

I was up North in WA recently and Paul van Bellen gave me this shot.
Forward loops are fun - this one wasn't quite perfect but its a pretty good reference point for text book new school forwards. My timing was a little late on pulling the trigger.
A lot of people think of this spot as a wave riding spot - but its actually one of the best jump spots on the planet too at small medium size.

How is this a forward loop? This is more like a back-stall loop. A forward loop is when you pitch your body forward over the mast and then bring the sail around and land. We used to call the small ones Cheese Rolls - named after one of the first guys to figure it out. Ceasare Cantagale.

I kind of agree - cheese roll is over the boom. Forward loop pitches the mast. After so many board and body breakages the riders created this variation around 15 years ago. It is much more sustainable on bodies (and on the broken board budget)

Agreed, I wsurfed through the 80's and quit for grad-school in the early 90's - then got into kiting in 2000 - this is backwards, rotating over the clew - not forward, which involves rotating your body over the mast. Excellent footage btw. @@reflexfilms

I agree, this is what we called a cheeseroll in the 90s. Its nota backloop or barrel roll. In any case you almost don’t See any front forwards any more, all are kind of cheese rolls. Mark Angulo was king of the real front forward loops in the late 80s, the first one to jump one
