Hey Steve love your videos. I'm a one man operator myself Heating and Cooling only no plumbing. I do it all service, maintenance and installation. I'm Western Pennsylvania. I have alot of oil Furnace and boiler customer too. This year is rough for my R22 customer. I told a lot of them I just can't drop R22 in their leaking unit. I have been doing a lot of new install. I feel bad for my customers but that R22 is just got to expensive to put in a leaking unit. I was able to get a jug of R22 for 870.00 dollars from a retired hvac guy. My supply house wants 1450.00 for a jug. I enjoy your video's your years of knowledge helped me out of jam or 2. Thank you for your hard work putting these videos together.

I see there a couple of ads on Craigslist in your general area for R22, prices vary, they're still crazy, Are people really paying "New 30lb R22 Freon Refrigerant - $750"???? Just search R22

My carcass is parked in south-central PA, and while semi-retired, I'll still take three jobs per week. Last year, I encountered an older Heil split mated to a 1970's Whirlpool air handler/90,000 BTU gas furnace (the 'turd' brown variety). The owner brought out a '5-lb 'pony' canister, sealed/shrink-wrapped, that he'd purchased on Craigslist. After the obligatory cap replacement, the suction pressure maintained a low 40's-psig pressure, which I figured would require a pound of 22 to correct. The air handler/furnace was in the attic crawl space, which was 22-ft above the condensing unit. At this point, I was fairly certain that a +/- 10% charge of R12 was added at the time of installation - (to help carry oil more efficiently). (whenever encountering anything similar, plan on paying the contaminated refrigerant 'safe environ' destruction fee) When I began connecting the canister access line, just prior to it's 'purge', the stench of methyl mercaptan filled the air. Johnstone - Harrisburg sent the "Craigslist special" to New Jersey for waste stream analysis, which revealed R134A; propane; and methylene chloride. Paint stripper, it's been years, and I still can't figure that one out. Which area are you from??, as by now, you've had to realize that: №1. Everything west of Carlisle is "Da Burgh". №2. H.J. Heinz built a smyrcase rocketship shaped like a ketchup bottle in the 1940's. №3. "Turtle Creek" is pronounced "Turdle Crick". №4. "Kennywood" is the center of the universe. №5. You've gotta do "Da Incline" at least once.

@@dennisnoone7427 Says the PTB's aka government that want you to pay out of the nose for the same basic material for heating & cooling systems. As many ask why ban R22 then to 410 (soon to be banned) then to the flammable much more expensive Y bla bla bla to R32.... oh yes flammable so good luck when burns your home down. R22 is much safer or keep to 410. They could use C02 as a coolant perfectly fine....... but they'd not make much profit from it as they do now with R32

And with people who don't want to teach you in fear you'll surpass them in some way. It really is a shit show out there till you find the right person to work with or can finally do it on your own. This channel gives me the inspiration and education I need to keep going that's for sure.

Electrical code must be different in other states where I am code would fail that disconnect because it's a breaker they have to be the blade pull-out type or when a inspector comes out it will get disconnected from the meter box until it's fixed.

on a train that type always check to make sure the capillary tubes inside the condenser aren't rubbing or the hot gas line going underneath the bottom of the coil to the compressor hasn't got hold of it or the muffler dryer on the inside underneath the fan Long before I would even try to put gas in it that's what I would have done 40 years of air conditioning experience

Those installers got it backwards...4 ton condenser will work a tad better with a 5 ton air handler I believe. Those electric dampers always seem to become an issue. You would think most HVAC designs would simply use manual dampers and set them permanently to move the air as needed. I never found it to be any kind of money saver in eletricity to use them with two units in a 2 story home.

it should not be allowed to run at all with a leak. It's R22 that kills the ozon layer. So there should be a law that a leaker should be emptied until it's fixed.
