Since many do not seem to know this: Air Force One is military callsign. An Air Force plane gets called that only when the president is on board, and only air force. Respectively the Marines provide helicopter transport for the president and the helicopter with the president on board gets the callsign Marine One. If the President were to fly on a Navy Plane or chopper it would be Navy One(like when bush flew in onto a carrier). An army chopper would become Army One. A civilian craft would be Executive One.
@JustANervousWreck4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know there were Navy Ones and Army Ones. What about Coast Gaurd Ones? Do you think there will be a Space Force One?
@Alvi4104 жыл бұрын
@@JustANervousWreck Yes the Navy One was a one time plane, an S-3 Viking, that Bush used to reach the carrier from wich he made the "Mission Accomplished" Speech. Army One was used by helicopters used to transfer the president before the Marines got complete management of the presidential choppers over the army. Regarding Coast Guard One or Space Force One. While a Coast Guard One never happened there was a Coast Guard Two that carried the then Vice President Joe Biden to survey flooding around Atlanta. Space Force, when it gets its own aircraft for internal logistics, will probably follow with what is a tradition in the case they were to carry the president or, more likely due to more lax security, the vice president around.

There was even an "Executive One" when Nixon flew one flight on United Airlines (on a DC-10) back in 1973 (the height of the gas crisis and a time when the president wanted to show that he cared about the people or something)

Might I add that wherever the US president drops a deuce within a federal building is immediately designated the callsign Crapper One. As opposed to within a civilian building which would be designated Shythole One, as many dont seem to know this of course.

Freighter versions of the airplane will still be around and in use, probably by second tier cargo haulers when companies like UPS have retired their fleet of the new 47F. So yeah, the two Air Force One aircraft will likely be the last to regularly fly people around. Considering the two current 200 models have been around for 30 years (and are among very few 200 models still in the air), it's certainly conceivable that the two new planes, supposedly to take to the skies in 2024, will be around until at least 2050, when Lufthansa, Korean Air and Air China will have long retired their fleets of the 47-i.

The map showing Roosevelt's route to Casablanca is extremely wrong! The Boeing 314 "Dixie Clipper" (technically an USN C-143) route was from Miami, Florida to Trinidad to Belém, Brazil to Bathurst, Gambia (now Banjul, The Gambia). At Bathurst, he changed to an USAAF C-54 (ex TWA DC-4) for the flight to Casablanca. The return route was the same except for a stop at Monrovia, Liberia on the Casablanca - Bathurst leg.
@FoundAndExplained4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the correction. At the time of editing I couldn't find the route by the aircraft.

Can u pls explain how this boeing 314 travelled from DC to Casablanca I. 3 legs? Did it refuel in mid air as those days air refueler never existed
@lexprontera8325 Жыл бұрын
Stop 2 seems to be the Azores. Stop 1 was probably a refueling ship at sea half way to the Azores, a seaplane tender of some sort. The 314 is a seaplane, so that would be my first guess.

I remember after Awesome #45 won in 2016 thinking he would just have the most advanced Air Force one made ah specially for him but knowing he stopped that idea and others because he knew that money would be better used on fixing the horrors of the last administration and instead used his own plane that’s just as good!! 2:14 1953 maybe? Eisenhower wasn’t president in 1962 (nor in 1952)
@FoundAndExplained4 жыл бұрын
Right, so I see where the confusion is. 1962 is when Air Force One was officially named and passed to a 707. Eisenhower was president until January 1961. Eisenhower did fly on a 707 but it had Air Force livery. Sorry I wasn't clear :)

Something's wrong here. Back when I was in high school, around 1979, I visited my older brother who was in the Air Force. He was stationed at Andrews AFB. We went to the flight line and I saw the presidential 747. I got right up close and personal. I remember seeing a TV show about the "Flying White House" 747, that was based at Andrews, and where there was a guard with a machine gun, with orders to shoot to kill anyone who came near the plane. I saw the guard that day (yes he had a machine gun) and asked if I could get closer to take the picture. He told me I could get as close as I wanted so long as I didn't get him in the shot. I walked right up under the thing, and then soon realized I couldn't get the whole plane in the picture. Duh. It's a 747. I had to back up a considerable way to get a decent picture, which I don't think I ever say developed BTW. This was definitely a 747. Not a 707 or a DC-10 or whatever. It had the Presidential Seal on the side of it. This was before Reagan was ever elected. What's going on here? You don't just imagine a presidential 747. And it's kinda hard to mistake a 747 for any other type of plane. Now was it a 747-8 or a VC-25A? I have no earthly idea. But it looked exactly like the thing you see in movies with Harrison Ford. It was a big ol' 747 with the big double-decker cabin, exactly as you would expect. This is pretty much what I saw right here. s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-GR283_airfor_P_20150128153916.jpg I was there. I was right up under it. I touched it. It was a 747. Like I said, it's not too easy to mistake that for any other type of plane. And just to compare apples to oranges, here's the presidential 707. i.pinimg.com/originals/7e/df/39/7edf39f2e6bf8c0cf04e804f2ab745c2.jpg It looks nothing at all like a 747. I would have had to scrunch down to get up under the front landing gear. This is nothing at all like what I saw that day. I could stand fairly easily under the nose of the 747 I saw. A 747 is higher off the ground. This was back around 79 or 80 at the latest. So if this was officially commissioned in 1985 by Ronald Reagan, then what the heck was that presidential 747 I saw parked at Andrews?

Another point to be included in the number of reasons why AIrbus A380VIP was rejected as AIR Force One was that the cost per plane (3pc) would not justify the construction of an Airbus Facility in Alabama (Just to assemble 3x USAF A380) on US Soil.
