Air Force Security Police Academy 1980's Part 1

This film was a U.S. Air Force promotional film made in the late 1980s. It depicts the Air Force Security Police Academy at that time. This film is sure to bring back many memories for those who went through the SP Academy at Lackland Air Force Base during this time frame. The film is in Two Parts.

Graduated from the SP Academy in March 1980. I was a Security Specialist not LE. This commercial is hilarious! Instructors were mostly hard-asses but I did enjoy my training, ABGD and my tour. Glad to have served and now that I'm 58 I actually miss it and the guys I served with.

I went through the academy in 2010, and this brought back a lot of memories for me. Although many things have changed I see a lot of traditions and the same lectures that have been kept alive from the 80s to now. It's strange being nostalgic about an era I wasn't even born in, yet feel like I was there in this video.

Definitely brings back memories from the summer of 82. Like buying the cheap ball cap from the bx with the iron SS so on your free time you could show everyone you were a security specialist. And the best part of camp Bullis, the awesome pool. I wonder if it’s still there.

Graduated in 1980 ,Law Enforcement. When we got our base orders the majority in our flight was sent to Guam or Minot AB.. was one of three was Europe bond. Zaragoza AB in Spain. The other two Italy and Germany. 😸

Air Force veteran, Security Police/LE -- 1984. Boy this video brings back the memories. The difference I remember between security and LE was that half of our training class was Marines, with a couple instructors as well. Our first day we were sitting in class waiting for our instructors. Half the class was empty and this Marine SSgt arrived and said surprise half of our class was with Marines! We looked at each other with terror as we didn't know what to expect. It was an interesting experience interacting with Marines. From what I read, all branches for Law Enforcement train at Lackland now.

6:32 I was a security specialist back in 1990 until 1997. Back then we had to go through the academy and did firearm training at Camp Bullis. Then we had to go to Fort Dix in New Jersey. I will never forget the training because it was late June early July and it was hot with high humidity. 6:32 Back then they fired live rounds from an M60 while going through a barb wire course with ground burst simulators going off simulating explosions.It was insane. The training has changed since then.

Went to Combat training at Camp Bullis for two weeks before deploying to Tan Son Nhut AB, Saigon, March of 1969. We were free for awhile on Saturday evening during training at Bullis. Walking to the PX a lady honked for us to get out of the road! Some of my buddies flipped her off! Big mistake. She was the wife of Camp Bullis' CO. We all were restricted for the duration! LOL

I graduated in December of 1980. I was a Law Enforcement Specialist. I was in B Flight. TSgt Holiman was our Flight Chief. One of the best instructors I ever had. Someone after my class whined to his mommy that he was too tough. Caused him a lot of grief.

Entered Tech school on June 23rd 1983 and graduated on August 8th! Then to Camp Bullis for 6 weeks of ABGD....and then on to Warren AFB for 2 years and then to Korea for a year. I got out in 1987 but I have never regretted doing an enlistment in the USAF!

@@ynp1978 Swings and Mids for me also. After Pueblo we were 12 and 12 for 6 months. Often had...visitors from Up North. The Rok's generally got them before they got to close, Still Lots and Lots of Alerts. Seen some photos, its an entirely different base than in 68. When I was there 1968 on a regular basis Osan had the highest VD rate in PACAF. And Very often the 6314th Security Police Squadron LEAD THE WAY with the highest rate on Osan. Of course I Never took part in any of that. I would back to my room and think 'How Can I back my Flight Chiefs job easier?" that's my story and I'm stickin with it. :-)

You were in about the same time I was. Feb. 83 to Feb 87 Hahn AB on a mobility flight and got to see the Sudan and a lot of places I didn't really want to see. Spent the rest in Blytheville AR. A lot of my enlistment really sucked, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

SP Police Academy in August of 1978 . I did ICBM Minuteman III's in South Dakota , then 1980-83 F-G in West Germany and Weasels and B-52's in Texas . I loved Bullis .

I was there about the same time and remember that a lot of the instructors there where former Safe Side guys and they did know there stuff. I also was sent to Ellsworth AFB but was assigned to aircraft security and later worked the weapon storage area full time. I joined the USAF in 1977 as a Security Specialist and went back to the academy in 1980 to be a Law Enforcement Specialist. I truly enjoyed both jobs but after a bad MC accident on leave I did leave the service since they couldn't tell me what job I would have after I recovered. I still enjoyed the academy both times I was there!

With the exception of ABUs the utility uniforms have always been more effective as camo, but goddamn did the pickle suits look good. Wish we would go back to having a metal emblem on our berets, the cloth patches get dirty and stained so easy and it doesn't help that clothing sales and the BX never sell berets that are good or even the right color amd getting one from supply takes an act of god.

USAF has had a problem with Security Police (Forces) being constantly understaffed. The way they get the needed "bodies" is to make people go there, even if they don't want the job, or, for all kinds of reasons, shouldn't be in a job like that. It's also a dumping ground for rejects from other tech schools. One guy who my training Flight got actually failed out of two Tech Schools before he was sent to SP's, which, he had such a bad attitude, he failed out and was discharged. Sad thing was, by the time they got rid of him, he had "infected" the moral of just about everyone in the school.
