Thank you for explaining this and showing it. I was so confused by this process but your video was awesome.

I watched your prior video on how u do an air layer, and then watched this one as a follow up. This week I am going to give it a shot with one of my trees. They were both very good instructional videos. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for these videos!! Yesterday I cut an air layer off the mother branch and the roots gorgeously had almost completely filled up the ziploc bag! I put it in a 12” terracotta pot and watered it deeply. However now the leaves are wilting and I am a little worried that I did something wrong. It’s in the shade to minimize transplant shock. Ross, what are your thoughts/suggestions?

What happened to your plant? Did it survive the potting?

Soil mixutre for newly potted airlayer (same as mother plant soil?) When would you add little fertilizer or some type of food? Also do you recommend using a little Mycorrhizal powder?
@RossRaddi7 ай бұрын
Feed after detachment. I believe Mycorrhizae helps.

I have a bag of Ocean Forest compost, and my garden is organic and full of microbiology. Which one would you use in this method? Not sure if the Ocean Forest is going to be too strong.
@mashafasha57962 жыл бұрын
Ocean forest isnt compost. Its not very strong either. It works perfectly for this purpose.

Can i ask, why do you have plastic bags around your pots?

Do you think you will be able to put your black madeira in the ground? Or is it too cold in 7 for that. I have Chicago Hardy in the ground here it's growing like a monster and it overwintered fine.
@RossRaddi5 жыл бұрын
It is in ground. Although it is one of the worst choices for growing in ground.

Ross Raddi were you able to get ripe figs off of the in ground black Madeira? If so how do you do it in your zone?

When is the best time to start a air layer? I'm in southern new jersey and its now september 12th
@kalorakalora4 жыл бұрын
It's a bit too late now. I'm in central jersey and had a very successful air layer that sprouted many roots after 3 weeks, which was initiated in early August. I tried another one around the end of August and after 3 weeks, nothing. The temperature may be too low now. Also, air layering in September may risk killing the entire plant. Idk I'll update you if there are changes but right now my prognosis is not positive for the 2nd attempt. Better to start next spring
