How nice to see genuine people on KZbin that aren't playing up to the camera etc and simply enjoying each others company as well as sharing good honest information.

Wonderful video Dan, I have got to do some air layering myself this year a Chinese elm so I am going to have a go better than cutting it off I like the idea of getting two for one thank you Dan 🤞

Nice video great to see you sharing knowledge with a young person, I'm fairly new and any instructional videos like this make it so much easier.. Would be great to see some more videos of you talking over Bonsai techniques. You're a natural teacher, so calm and clear. Directional pruning I always get confused over. And how do you know which trees will bud back from old wood and which won't. Amazing glazed pot videos too.

Hi Luigi, thanks for your kind comments. I have recently been selling off most of my bonsai as I can no longer lift the big ones, so I have very few left that I can talk about, but maybe when the weather improves I may be able to do a video or two on some bonsai techniques.

You don’t take any cambium off,haven’t seen that before.
@danbartonslifewithbonsai745 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the cambium layer is taken off when the "ring of bark" is removed to make the air-layer

Should you do anything about the cambium layer before putting on the sphagnum moss, etc?

The cambium layer has been removed

Do we need superthrive and rootinghormon esentially,because here over in Germany its not allowed to sell😢😢😢
@danbartonslifewithbonsai7457 ай бұрын
It's not essential but it certainly helps - check with your garden centres whether there is any equivalent chemical that can be used to encourage rooting.
@thegreenmanalishiyamadori3717 ай бұрын
@@danbartonslifewithbonsai745 its butric indolacid or acetic indolacid which is forbidden in Germany to sell... I got one similar Product in Austria,but not sure if it makes any diffrence🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

I have a 20+ year old Japanese maple with 4 large leaders. All the leaders have multiple branches, can I do an air layer on one of the branches of each separate leader at the same time? Will that kill the tree? I'm having a hard finding an answer. Thanks
@danbartonslifewithbonsai745 Жыл бұрын
You may get away with it but I think it would be better to only do 2 at first and then when they've produced roots you could try doing the other two.

I’m sorry I missed it but what time of year was this? When is the optimal time to do this? Thanks.
@danbartonslifewithbonsai745 Жыл бұрын
I think we did this in late summer - but May/June would be a good time to air-layer
