Beautiful plane and impressive livery that fits the DC-10 like a glove. The airline's current "all black" livery with the fern leaf is so bleak.
@mattgrainger70845 жыл бұрын
100% agree, the silver fern wrapped around the fuselage looks like part of a skeleton, and it’s organic curves clash with the precise geometric look of the Koru. It’s like they’ve taken two completely separate graphic elements and just clumsily shoehorned them together. And then there’s the colour... I so badly miss those green and blue tails.

Their current uniforms don't look good either. The colors are too loud.

I thought I was the only one that hated the new Air New Zealand colour scheme. Maybe one or two planes all black, but the pacific wave is still my favourite.

I flew on accident aircraft ZK-NZP only a few weeks prior to Erebus. The DC10 was always a comfortable aircraft to travel in - and Air New Zealand a great airline to fly with.

Thanks for uploading. I remember flying on TE's DC10 MEL-CHC-MEL in July 1976. The good old days of Govt airlines. Great service and lots of empty seats in the 2-5-2 layout.

Awesome clip this is. Air New Zealand’s DC-10 colour scheme has got to be one of the best. I remember being in transit on the tarmac in Nandi, it was September 1973, flying to London from Sydney via Los Angeles, travelling on a BOAC VC10. On arrival in Nandi was a brand new ANZ DC10, looked beautiful

What is it with airlines using ominous synth music for their plane ads back in the 1970s? There's BA with the Concorde, SQ with the 747 and NZ with the DC-10. What gives?

I first flew on one with my parents from Christchurch to Sydney April 1980, I was 14 years old and I still remember the day we boarded the aircraft, before the airport had airbridges so you just walked outside and up the steps on this large aircraft, so while I have been on bigger aircraft since, now you see your aircraft but board on & off on airbridges so not quite the same "Wow" factor.

@stephen787iFly, the "TE" designation dates back to Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), one of Air New Zealand's predecessors (NAC was the other). They use the "NZ" designation today.

nice footage I worked on ZK-NZM back in the seventies and the remaining eight DC10's ANZ had The last i worked on ZULU PAPA was before she perished in 1979 she was hangered for preparation for the scenic flight to the Antarctica in 1979 she was our best looking well kept ship in the fleet as was ZK-NZM 14th November 1979 ZK-NZM was to do the TE 901 flight but ZK-NZN replaced this aircraft as it was needed on the NZAA/KLAX flight. Very nice footage of these spectacular aircraft

wilie Carter really appreciate your work & service,,,I am absolutely non technical person but I've heard that aircrafts with engines on the tail had the problem of developing cracks is that really true ??
@wiliecarter9547 жыл бұрын
The DC10 was a well advanced aircraft in it's era even over the Boeing 747-100 jets a lot of the crashes caused were due to human era not so much the aircraft and training to open and close the cargo doors. The pylons on engine number one and number three on the main wings did have cracks in them but this is due to neglect and in proper training procedures by the carrier who owned them for not looking after them and maintaining them properly. Where as Air New Zealand looked after there DC20'S very well It was a aircraft not to be played with but unfortunately d=some operators treated them like shit and ran them to the ground which caused many incidents. So the performance for the DC10'S were very good

@@wiliecarter954 Nice vid--airlines used to really love showing off their airplanes rather than just "bags fly free" I flew ANZ several times in the '90's--nonstop RT 747 LAX-AKL. Love that they have kept their cool koru tail logo.

@kogvos, it was the Mount Erebus disaster that ultimately resulted in Air New Zealand switching to the Boeing 747 for long-haul flights. Today they use the Boeing 777 for that job and they have Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order.
