You must do the test again with a better spring. I am sure the coil will perform well. Really great idea testing air v coil 🤘

Try a Sprindex adjustable coil on the fly. Adds a little weight but gives you the ability to adjust on the trail. Best of both world. Also, not all coil shocks are equal, massive difference on top end ones.

Yeah, I should give the Sprindex spring a go. Heard it’s an interesting piece of kit

Great review, I have both those shocks for my Thok TK01R and ironically concurred exactly the same as you . I do run the heavier spring than you did but even then found on pure rough rock gardens with drops it would bottom out. That said I'm not tempted to go up to the heaviest spring as I'm only 80kgs and feel it would be to sharp / spiky . In essence I've opted to keep the coil mounted all of the time it now. My Thok has a linear designed linkage system which also makes it push through the stroke quicker where as your Vitus has the progressive linkage, if only there was another in-between spring rate to only slightly increase the support !

I went to air from warranty and I don't think id go back. You just get loads more support with it on the ebike. Gone float x2 now and it's banging. Feels better at everything over the coil.

Nice!
@rickywoods31016 ай бұрын
Lol, I did the exact opposite. Went from the float x to the rockshox ultimate coil with hydraulic bottom out and it was 10 times better and I spent alot of time tuning the air shock . I love the hydraulic bottom out.

Try MegNeg on Air shock, it does all, gives more sensitivity and more mid support. Got one myself and can't believe how good it is.

Great video cheers, I've always had a coil shock and always wondered wot an air shock would be like, now from wot your saying and my riding style, Al stick to a coil shock, I'm not a big jumper, if a jumper at all and I'm not one for high speed trails, so definitely a coil for me although a bike mechanic once said to me, my saracen raw2 would be brilliant with an air shock, mmm now after this video I'm glad I didn't get an air shock but my raw2 will be retired shortly, once I've got a 2021 vitus 👍

Pretty much irrelevant, giving that you had the wrong spring rate. Good vid non the less. Do it again at Descend please! Good to see you struggling on certain features that a lot of folk mention at Descend. Wish the builders/owners would listen to the riders. 👍🏻

Thanks for the feedback, yes stiffer spring is needed. The bigger jump in this video, is this the 'certain feature' you are referring to?

is it worth buying a coil shock for a bike park i now use air and that is great for jumps but in leogang the shock got very hot and did not work very well
@wolfpack_adventures2 жыл бұрын
Guess that’s a personal thing - I would say yes, however, some people would prefer the air shock due to its adjustability and getting the bike to sit higher in the travel for jumps etc - that’s my thought anyway

Great vid. Just bought a DVO Jade myself and deciding on spring rates and will be swapping between my trek slash and rail so will presumably need 2 springs (1 for the ebike). How much do you weigh out of interest?, I am 73kg
@wolfpack_adventures2 жыл бұрын
Good choice! I'm about 80kg - the spring is a DVO spring 425 - 500lb However, this is too light (as I found out in this test) for an E-Bike - which I was expecting. The spring is perfect on my Enduro bike. But for an E-Bike, I definitely need something a little stiffer.
