"Fly fast - Turn left..." I'm watching this, and dammit all - I can't hold back the rain in my eyes - bloody goggles! LOL I planned to be there for the last couple of years, and there was always something in the way - then COVID! Then I moved from LA to the East Coast - this year, 2023 - was gonna be IT!. Then I heard about the Last Chequered Flag - and my intent and enthusiasm only grew. But life is what it is - a rehearsal for death, I've heard some say - and certainly one damn thing after another - and somehow, I've missed the last one. My intended spot was right were you were - where Placerville Rd. meets the fence. Who would dare imagine that only 900 M SSW of that wonderful vantage point, 2 T-6's would auger in, catapulting their precious cargo to Heaven, and bringing a sad coda to a 59 year era of one of the most divine forms of motion ever devised by humans. During the race days there are all sorts of air displays that take place and I saw hornets doing square corners in the sky there, thunderbirds and even the u2 some time ago so there's so much happening. I assumed that jets would easily have the advantage on such a course but they scrub off a lot of speed in the turns and are limited by the squishy pilot so it doesn't quite turn out as you'd expect. You'd also think that the F18 would be the fastest loudest and deepest sound you'd hear - this is until the rare bear flies past at full chat - and then your whole life changes and all the car alarms as far as Vegas are going off!
@thecorknicehero3073 Жыл бұрын

I don't love the confederate flag, but I don't demonize it either. It's part of our history. I was raised in the SF Bay Area, so for me it meant "rebel", or rebellious, and that's how my generation grew up during the psychedelic 60s. It was used on the Dukes of Hazard. It only changed during the PC movement during the last 20 years.
@WarbirdVideos3 жыл бұрын
The Confederates didn't enslave anyone. Early Americans did, as did many other countries at the time. The south wanted to susceed from the rest of the nation, thus the rebel label. What's so good about Americans supporting China's slave labor these days in order to get cheap products?

In relation to the south, state legislatures (like South Carolina) actually brought this flag BACK to state house to troll and punish the civil rights movement. Ah yes, bullfighting and air racing… definitely the first comparison that comes to mind… 🤦♂️ Might as well ban fun while we’re at it… It’s also not much of a waste of resources, there’s not many other places this sort of expertise can be applied, nor is there much other equipment that consumes this sort of resources. In many ways, it keeps many many people with jobs they very much enjoy and ensures the skills for keeping such things going survive! No harm in that. So no. This sort of thing needs to go on, otherwise much of the fun, unique things in the world start getting quietly stamped out. Even now they’re relocating their flying because of airfield limitations, but they’ll keep going because it’s what they love doing. No one should take something fun away simply because it “wastes resources”.
