The 3rd siren is a Scream Master siren made by La Verne company R.J Zievers. Came in either 6/8 or 9 ports. Only one recording has caught of these going off and it’s the single-toned one. They also made fans to prevent crops from freezing and they made a dual-horn siren in Merced.

It's also worth noting Mobil-Directo's came in gas and electric variants. The first one you pictured was gas-powered and the last one was electric.

The one the veterans building is a b&n mobile directo, that one does spin, it is also particularly special because its a b&n 48G model which is Gas powered by a Wisconsin vf4, v4 (4 cylinder v lay out) engine, that one is missing the top horn, but the bottom is the intake, the "blower" on the back is the fan to cool the motor, there is a running one on Jerry wicks channel, he has the only running version in the world. The second one is electric so it has 2 tones. But the 2 tones come out of the same top horn

Great trip with some great sirens ! I saw Connor's video and it was a great one, he also climbed a Model 7 in it. What's great about the 3 sirens you've seen is that they're all different: you've got both the gas-powered single tone version and the electric dual tone version of the Mobil Directo (the one on the roof of the Veterans Memorial Park was the gas-powered one), plus a Scream Master, a siren only made for California in the 50's ! They do look like Federal Signal sirens, probably because Scream Master also installed FS sirens and made siren poles. There's both a single tone and a dual tone version of the Scream Master, however I don't know which one you've seen. As of how does Mobil Directo sirens work: the air goes in the bottom hole, gets chopped by the chopper, and gets out by the top "horn", they've then taken the same design for their following model called the Allertor. If you want to hear them going off, here are some links to: - a gas powered single tone Mobil Directo being restored: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmm7cn-gnb93l68 - an electric dual tone Mobil Directo on a fire station in Pennsylvania going off (and it rotates too fast because apparently they've put the belts wrong after a maintenance check): kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5LOZXaBeq2Srqc - an abandoned single tone Scream Master going off in Sacramento, probably after some malicious act done to it, this is the only footage available of a Scream Master "screaming": kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4q2pK2qjMece7s

Great information as always. I was curious about them being gas powered and it would make sense that the one on the pole would be electric, would be tedious to keep maintaining and fueling it up on that pole. Thank you for the links, as I suspected, they did spin. The Scream Master has been retrofitted with an electric speaker, like a public address system, but looking at the photos it looks like it still has the guts inside, unlike the retrofits they did to the SD-10s downtown.

@theericfreeze1493
@theericfreeze1493 Жыл бұрын
@@DayTrippingAdventurer correct, I think the gas was sposed to be more powerful but there was not a huge difference, I could definitely say that the Mobil Directo on veterans memorial building had a Greater range because it was so high up but not just because of the gasoline engine but it probably increased the volume by a few db.

Welcome! The sirens I'm visiting are no longer in use. I believe there's only one original siren in use on Catalina Island for Tsunami warnings. They're installing a new electric system for Tsunami warnings along the coast. Only thing they're using these old sirens for is show and entertainment, they removed the guts from a bunch downtown and put speakers in them for a War of the World event several years ago.
