I think the purple dot at 7:00 was one of the original Chrysler sirens from 1942, there was one in a park that was recently removed
@Mrbushbtalls8372 жыл бұрын
This was an SD-10. It got removed during construction for the park. The Chrysler is more west in West Hollywood. This is kind of north or south Hollywood.

LA should make these sirens into an early warning system for earthquakes.

Not a bad idea. I was talking to someone not too long ago who was telling they were in some city, wish I could remember which, that did just that with similar sirens.

@@DayTrippingAdventurerJust gonna put it out there but I'm pretty sure if they reconnected the system they would have to replace them due to 1 aging, 2 may not work as it did 30 or 40 years ago due to the paint the siren developing a lot of rust and just the sirens in general after sitting there for a long period of time might not be a really good idea to reactivate them. If the city were to reactivate them they would either have to refurbish or at least clean all of the sirens out of replace all of them but fr a big city like L.A I doubt it will ever happen and they will most likely be removed some day as well.

You should check out Edaan Friedman's comments on the Air Raid / Tornado Warning Siren Commentary video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nofdi6Crgbmci6c He refurbishes sirens and has some cool videos about this on his channel, and seems to believe that they would work quiet well if one chose to repower them. However, i do believe you are correct, they would certainly need to be cleaned up. Who knows how many bird, squirrel, and rats nests are inside those things.

I live in New Britain CT. and I grew up in a house that had an SD-10 siren one street over. very close. I grew up in the 80s and they were tested well into the 90s every first Friday of the month.

same here, I'm also from Fresno. i mainly saw only one of them and it was on top of the veterans memorial museum in downtown. funny thing is, it's kind of hard to spot in my opinion so I must've had pretty good eyes.

Siren 14 is a Federal 5T (the "T" designates it is a double tone unit, so it produces two notes at the same time, giving it that classic air raid siren sound.) The 5T's, 500T's and SD10's that L.A. used all have the same exact inner workings, so they all sound basically identical to each other. The only difference between the 5T and SD10 is the weatherproof housing. The 500T was the loudest because it rotated 360 degrees and projected the sound in a concentrated beam. If you compare the 500T and SD10 side by side you will notice that the bottom cone on the SD10 and the horn of the 500T are the same part, Federal most likely did this to make production of them fast and easy. About the "flattened bird house" units featured in your last siren video; those are short framed Fedelcode Model 5's and produced a single note that was much lower toned than the other sirens(Fedelcode stands for FEDeral ELectric CODEd. Federal Electric was renamed Federal Sign & Signal and later Federal Signal, they are the same company). A couple of them like Siren 196 and 201 have the metal "FEDELCODE" badge stamped on the side of them. LA has a few regular housing Fedelcode Model 5's as well, like Siren 218. The Fedelcode's are the oldest in the system and were installed right after Pearl Harbor. Most of them were made with the short covers to conserve materials during the war. Hope this helped you a bit!

Thank you. Some photos of a Siro Drone that I've seen ook remarkably similar to a Federal 5 (It's certainly possible the photos are mislabeled. But, now I'm certain it's a Federal 5. Perhaps you can help: Are the Fedelcode 5 and Federal 5T the same unit? Or just share a similar housing?

Yeah, back in the early walks I was still learning. Now I believe that those sirens are Model 7Ts. Although I'm not completely sold since I've been told that the external difference between the 7 and the 5 is the size of the housing. Until I get to climb up and look at one, I can't be 100% sure. I'm still figuring it all out so thank you for the info!

The (SD) stands for "special dual tone" It produces two tones or signals simultaneously,10 horsepower outdoor warning siren.. Very evil sounding!!! I was able to preserve a sd10 that used to stand on Bixell ave. The last time the system was operational was 1983. I had a service card from the control box that came with that siren but unfortunately it crumbled...
