Remember this practice WILL damage your air rifle and could hurt someone so let me risk myself and my rifle so you don't have to. Also, everyone seems to think that I'm actually looking for more power by doing this. If I wanted something more powerful I'd go to my gun safe and grab something more powerful. In reality, I'm sacrificing an old air rifle that I got cheap for experimentation purposes.

In 11C AIT in 1970, our instructor told us that Charlie knew the range of our 81mm mortars and would stay outside it. He said the solution was an inch of gasoline down the tube for increased range. He said they did start breaking the base plates. LOL

Notice your instructor said GASOLINE. Not VASELINE. Thats the problem most videos claiming dieseling is false have - they are using sexual lubricant or lip balm instead of actual fuel.

@@jamiewatchorn7639 Oil is a good one, it actually has some propelling power when lit, like motor fuel, gunpowder or butane. I still however have big doubts about the propelling power of sexual lubricant.

Could probably improve the dieseling consistence by wetting a Q-tip with the oil. Then just spinning it in the base of the pellet. Potentially evenly spreading the same amount of oil on every pellet. May reduce the FPS spread, which would improve accuracy while maintaining the boost.

Honestly I have been doing this for years without knowing it I just assumed that the extra power was from the extra lubrication and and seal the oil provided and about 10 years later my pellet gun is still tons of power and rust free

While I absolutely understand your need for the disclaimer, I have been doing this since I was a kid with my uncle. Still using the same Crossman Pump air pellet rifle for the last nearly 50 years. Hasn't seemed to do any damage to the rifle yet ! While this may not be the norm, I have perhaps just been lucky. But it still shoots just as accurate as it did the day it came out of the box !

Learned about this by accident. Was waiting on my .177 bore-snake to arrive in the mail and figured putting some "pellgunoil" in the skirt of a pellet would at least coat the inside of barrel and prevent rust. Needless to say it surprised the hell outta me.. grandad came out of the house and asked if it was a .22, told me I cant be shooting that in the backyard. When I showed him the tin of pellets he was in disbelief until I showed him. Good times

It's fun to show the elders how modern tech is getting better than old. Air rifles are now winning sniper contest, electric cars are smoking gas cars....I'll still forever miss the sound of explosions in all forms going forward, but my future laser, phaser gun won't care lol

With the extra power you need to use a much heavier pellet at least 10g because a pellet becomes unstable if it goes supersonic

A friend of mine did this with his 4,5mm for many years using WD40 in back of skirt of pellets before it eventually died from the wear. Accuracy at longer ranges up to 100m / yeards was actually much better then without dieseling and it had very little bullet drop possibly going supersonic all the way to the target. Penetration in wood was much much much larger when dieseling.

Very cool. The first time I had any experience with dieseling was by accident after cleaning and oiling my airgun. I shot a pellet to expel any excess oil and it sounded like a .22 going off. I thought back to a demonstration of a fire piston and put two and two together and repeated the results.

I have done this. Only once, and then took the gun apart to check the piston seal. The seal was destroyed. The overpressure found a weak spot in the piston seal, and created a channel from the front of the seal to the rear. It was obvious the heat melted and splattered the area of the seal where the pressure leaked by. It was a tiny channel, but enough to ruin the seal. Therefore, my suggestion, if you want to diesel an air rifle, is to order a box full of the piston seals, and after every day of shooting while dieseling, take the gun down when you're done, and replace the seal. I noticed no other damage to my rifle.

Some seals seems at least on the 4,5mm seems to be very hard and able to take the pressure no problem. A friend of mine did this with his 4,5mm air rifle many times a day for years before the rifle eventually slowly died and the power when diesling was enormous compared to without and accuracy did not seem to suffer either. I have not dared to try this on my old competition air rife even if it is very tempting to try :)

Use heavier pellets in the 9 to 10+ grains usually gives better accuracy and longer range energy retention. Target type wad cutter pellets loose accuracy when velocity goes above 750 fps due to the diabolo shape skirt becoming less stable at higher velocity, so the best solution is to use heavier pellets for better accuracy and longer range due to more energy retained.

Wad cutter pellets (flat heads) are unstable past a given distance because as they lose velocity quickly the forward momentum skewes with the build up of air on the flat head, great for 10 mtr shooting but that's all they are good for, close range. nothing to do with the skirt, all diablo pellets have skirts.

yep 26 grain 5mm pellets will pack a punch and go close to 1000fps..you cant ask for a better big bang from a air rifle short of a 22 that uses dirty powder.

Coat your pellets with Lee Liquid Alox(a type of bullet lube). Safe and effective. The squirrels don't know what hit them!

daisy made a rifle called the Daisy V/L for about one year (1968-1969) that shoots a .22 that is a caseless cartage at 1150 fps. it is an air rifle that you load a .22 bullet into that has no case or primer, it is like gun powder that glued into a big chunk glued onto the back of the bullet. when the air is compressed through a small hole it gets hot enough to ignite the powder. the BATF told daisy that they are going to be prosecuted for manufacturing fire arms with out a license and they need to cease production until they get the proper licensing. daisy just cease production and never made them again. only 23,000 were made. cool little collectible gun

MrMrsregor One can get the same sort of effect by filling the back of the slug with mercury fulminate (from cap pistol 'ammo') or a tracer bullet effect by doing the same with match-head material. I have found that two-stroke fuel to be more effective than 3-in-one oil. During the ww2 the BSA airsporter spring rifle was 'beefed up' to teach recruits in shooting. Accuracy was not compromised and stopping power astounding (rabbits). After the war the weapons were all destroyed (most of them).

Vicks works the best and you can preload multiple pellets without it leaking.

I discovered the secret of using WD40 or CRC oil and the diesel effect some 20+ yrs ago..I had a possum problem (here in NZ they are a pest) and I was using one of the dearest German made 22 air rifles one could buy (approximately us$600 back then ) and the performance increase including long rang shots was nothing short of being spectacular. After all these years and 1000+ rounds the rifle is still in excellant shape. To put some prospective to it, if one got at leg of lamb and shot from 10 meters the pellet would go right through the thickest part of leg including through the bone. The best pellets I found were not pellets designed for hunting but rather basic target rounds as they had a larger cavity at rear to hold more oil. In a 250 round standard container I would put about 50 rounds and 1 teaspoon of penitrating oil and carefully roll canister around just enough to coat pallets.

I love this video! It actually refutes a claim I have made for years. In the past during break in I have experienced lousy accuracy because of dieseling. On one gun, more than half of the pellets completely missed the target. I would like to see an accuracy test at 25 yards and 40 yards (typical hunting ranges). At 10 yards, shockwave induced projectile instability would be significantly less that at longer ranges. I watched another video wherein the shooter used Vick's Vap-o-Rub (Vaseline would probably work as well). Using this you could expect a consistent amount on each shot, without so much hazard of the accelerant migrating to the compression chamber, increasing the possibility of ignition in the compression chamber damaging the seals.

Back in the 1980s I had a Relum T200 break action air rifle. I had this idea that if I kept the barrel lubricated the rifle would be smoother and more consistent. My solution was a pellet can containing some pellets and oil, and when I fired the rifle it seemed more powerful, so I shot some cans, and found penetration was improved. I thought the improvement was the extra-lubed barrel, and perhaps the oil helped obturation a little. At the time I was aware of oil smoke and the smell of burnt oil (3-in-1) when I fired...so now believe that the improvements were due to 'dieseling'! I eventually broke the rifle when I replaced the spring with a cut down fork spring from a Suzuki motorcycle - I experimented by cutting off sections of spring until it fitted the rifle. The washer lasted about five shots, then I had to keep cutting a new one... eventually the loading action broke, and I think I threw the rifle away. Smirking now, knowing what that blue smoke was lol Thanks for the video!

The variable velocity can be attributed to the variable quantity of oil put into the pellets.. The oil was not actually measured.. But interesting to know exactly how much increase in velocity happened.. Thanks for the share.

I used a short spray of 24% ether in the chamber. The can was called "Aerostart" I have used it to start gas engines, a car and a lawnmower. The effect is quite an increase of speed of the 177 pellet.

I use a tiny drop of castor oil in the pellet itself. It used to be used by speedway two stroke motorcycles in the day because it burns easier.

We used to do this in the 1960's, I used take my mothers Singer Sewing machine oil. We used to fill the skirt full. You could put holes through cans bins and chimney pots. Probably did'nt do much for the rifle though.😖

We used to do this as kids, but I think it increases power is the oil creates a seal around the rifling where before it would pass a little pressure, compressing the oil heats it and vapourises some resulting in burning a little, the oil will remain in the barrel until it's been depleted, we never destroyed a gun doing it

I know this is a stupid question, but has anyone ever tried liquid nitroglycerin ? According to valid calculations the pellet should reach a velocity of Mach 3.5. (3,804.2979 fps). Also, if you can introduce just a micro amount of plutonium-239 behind the pellet, safely. The pellet, (alloy), should then reach the speed of light, according to those same calculations. Who knew....

Nitroglycerin is to fast expanding (incredibly fast), it will just blow up the gun :) For shooting bullets you need a explosion that have the correct expansion speed for the bullet weight, not to slow and not to fast. A small drop of WD40 at back of skirt seems to work perfectly for that purpose in at least a 4,5mm air rifle. If you for example use fast burning gun powder meant for pistols in a rifle that need slow burning powder it will explode the gun guaranteed.

I had an old .22 BSA Meteor that I had an uprated spring in. I would push the pellet half an inch down the barrel and added a small wad of cotton wool that had been dipped in diesel right behind it. Don't know how it never blew the seal but it worked well. NOT that I recommend doing it.

Looks identical to my Crossman which is rated with the identical muzzle velocity. Gammo ballistic alloy pellets are rated at 1200 fps for my rifle. If dieseling adds 25% to velocity, they would be somewhere around 1500fps... that is kinda nuts. I used to do this as a kid but didn't know to what extent it worked. This was an answer to a question I had almost forgotten. Thanks man.

Good video! I like to oil my pellets a bit, just seems to aid consistancy. But I stand them on a tissue before I use them. Dieseling may damage a cheaper gun (no evidence at all) but the average cost one for 12ft/lbs will have the same parts as a 25 one. Killing power on a rat is no different. When I get a dieseling my accuracy goes out because of inconsistent power. Gun is zeroed at 65ft (length of garden), and I expect overlapping holes (I'm no marksman though) with good pellets. Diesel shots always go a bit high and wry which could mean a miss. But it is definitely a lot of fun and a very nice smell! WD40 works well. TX200 (springier, Hawk 3-9 x 50) Air arms Diablo field .22 pellets.

Also discovered this by accident. As a kid I thought oil was the best thing ever invented by man. My mother was always mad with me because all my shirts had a line of oil up the back from my bicycle chain. Then I got a Gecado pellet gun which received the same 3 in 1 lubrication between every shot. My main motive was the nice little puff of smoke. My father seemed surprised that it seemed to do the same amount damage as his 0.22 rifle.

I've been doing this for years with no issues ever. My crossman. Is up in 1450 area. I use. 10 plus grams. And use vasoline. It hits. 2 liters shaving cream cans and anything else at 30-50 yards pretty dam hard!!

Ideally, use alloy pellets with a light grain for higher velocities. If I want to show off and break the sound barrier with normal pellets I'll put a drop of silicone oil in the chamber port with a HIGH FLASH POINT, then I don't have to worry about damage, over time, to the seals by using synthetic oil.

Take a #4birdshot bb super glue it in the hollow point of those pellets and watch you speed stabilize and your accuracy too.

I've done this with my Gamo consistently for years, it never broke anything and as far as it damaging the barrel or anything like that it just wont happen. It may damage more delicate parts likes seals, it hasn't in my experience but I could see that being possible.

Years ago as a kid my BSA Super Meteor .22 air rifle could put distance all my mates air rifles .177 Even the fancy expensive Ruger . Very accurate . I used to carry my pellets in a leather pouch on my belt . Pellets soaked in neatsford oil . Best air rifle I ever owned .

I got a Swiss Army shotting 850 fts. dry, using vaseline or transmision oil I get 1300 fts. It is very accurate.

I diesel the inside of the piston housing, behind the head of the piston. Doing this allows the piston to close with less friction giving you more velocity and better shot to shot consistency without the risk of blowing up your gun.

G'day BC,... I have done this with my Weihrauch HW 80. Have you thought about 'sizeing' your pellets first? I have a pellet sizer to make sure my pellets skirts are all uniform for accuracy. It is amazing what a difference it makes. Aussie.

I did this with my Beeman sportsman .22/.177 single stroke . With the .22 used a few props of crosman pneumatic oil into loading breech .And I don't have a crony but sounded like my Ruger lcr .22 revolver. Loud! I put a sheet metal target 20-25 yards away and used a RWS 14 gr. .22 pointed lead pellet. It went straight through the sheet metal target.

oh and the rifle is in perfect working order. i diesel quite often, and it works great, and i've put 100's of rounds through it already. dieseling, and high velocity pellets affecting accuracy teeters on a myth. i've run many many tests. There's a myth saying that if you break the sound barrier with your air rifle, you will lose a lot of accuracy. this is only true if you are using crappy light weight pellets. and by lightweight i mean anything below 7.8GR. just to apply some common sense to it for you let's use an example by comparing an air rifle with high-velocity .22 ammunition. now we know that high velocity, often hits that 1650FPS mark which is a pretty good deal above the sound barrier in terms of what is supposed to affect accuracy. standard .22 ammunition generally hovers around 1250FPS. even competition .22 ammunition hovers at 1000FPS and sometimes hits the 1100FPS mark depending on conditions. for the most part .22 ammo is highly accurate. it's the preferred competition ammunition. it's what they use at the Olympics, and anschutz makes some of the best .22's in the world. highly highly accurate. at any rate, you don't hear a lot of talk about .22 high velocity and standard ammunition failing big time on accuracy. of course the rifle is a factor, and the shooter is the final say in the matter. so why don't bullets(any caliber) carry the stigma that high velocity = no accuracy?? after all some of the most accurate sniper rifles in the world hit close 4000FPS, and are deadly accurate. the issue has to do with the pellet. a very light pellet, like those lame gamo 4.5GR alloy pellets can't handle high velocities because they're literally too light for flight. every rifle has a favorite pellet, but alloy pellets aren't famous for being accurate. the reason is when the projectile takes flight, you get your sonic boom, and the sonic boom is supposed to fuck up the trajectory of the pellet, and cause it to tumble. that's funny cuz bullets don't tumble under that kind of stress, they're designed to go faster than the speed of sound. the secret is in the weight of the pellet. if you have a 10GR pellet flying 1200FPS, and a 5GR pellet flying 1200FPS, the 10GR pellet has enough energy do to it's weight, to not be disturbed the sonic boom, in fact, when it breaks the sound barrier, the pellet will actually out run the sonic boom and leave the turbulence behind it. if the pellet can out run the turbulence then you're gonna hit your target. the question that makes the turbulence myth more of a myth is, "why aren't bullets affected by high velocity the same way pellets are??" the answer is in the weight of the pellet + whether or not the pellet is out running the shock of the sonicboom. i know this is a long read, but it's worth mentioning, so people can quit investing so much in what the internet tells you about air rifles. this video is actually scientific proof of that. many of those shots exceeded, 1100FPS which is the magic, ruin your shot speed, and yet here we are watching a video that proves the accuracy of his shots were NOT AFFECTED. had he used some cheap crosman 7GR pointed pellets, the effects would have been more pronounced, and had he been using 4.5GR GAMO pellets, his group would have spread out even further, depending on how much drag the pellet gained from the high velocity, and whether or not it started to veer or even tumble. so yeah. 1100FPS air rifle turbulence is a myth....if you got a nice weighty pellet. i just can't understand why people wouldn't ask themselves, why would the pellet behave differently from a bullet at high velocity. cuz myth that's why. i've put 1000's and 1000's of pellets down range at high velocity, and i can tell you it comes down to the quality of your pellet, it's weight, and whether or not your rifle is compatible with that pellet. out run the turbulence, or carry enough weight, and you'll hit your mark. hopefully air rifle manufacturers will quit hiding behind this myth, and raise the power on air rifles. i'd really like to be able to send a 14GR grain pellet down range at 1200FPS. 8GR just ain't got the range for awesome trick shots.

almost everything you say is correct. As an automobile engineer and part gunsmith and an ex-military sniper, there are no military sniper rifles out there going over 3100 feet a second. This guy thinks his gun is the desieling. Not true if it were so his fps would be all over the place.if he could put measure the pressure as it went off he would see that it's the same as normal. The oil in the barrel makes it slicker so as to move faster because of lubrication.. Oil in air chamber if not the correct type will cause the seals to swell and deterioratehim, just put it all base product in your master cylinder of your car and see what happens.

MTRX 2010 Bullets flying straight...whether a .22, 50 cal, 5" 54 cal or the 16" on the battle ships, the barrels all have rifling which imparts the spin to the projectile and gives stability. No rifling in the airguns.

8ftbed ... some airguns are smoothbore and some are rifled. The rifling in a pellet gun is very shallow due to the requirement of minimized drag since the force behind the pellet is well below a typical firearm. Granted, there are some pretty high pressured airguns but in comparison to high pressured firearms, the difference is enormous. A long time ago, I did some informal testing of .22 caliber airgun pellets using a High Standard Sentinel revolver and blank cartridges. The pellets were readily available Crosman flat point. When launched in that manner, the pellets flew accurately enough for the range I was shooting and delivered some hard hits on inanimate objects. As I said, the tests were informal so what I observed was strictly my own estimation of the performance of the combination and not scientific at all. The power of the blanks and the weight of the pellets were such that I had zero concern that any safe pressure level could be exceeded or even approached.

Had he used a heavier ammo or better fuel or an oxydizer the combustion would be better. It can be perfect. It's like an old diesel engine fuming like hell and going slowly

I haven’t read but a very few comments so perhaps it’s already been mentioned that there is a second, important lesson here: Set your target up so vertical and horizontal lines are exactly that! Can you see how much better your rifle will have shot? Your target would have confirmed that there was significantly less ‘drift’ than appears on your canted targets. I always carry a short (8-inch??) carpenter’s level with me for range work to ensure more ‘honest’ results from my shooting.

I did this with mine accidentally with Gun Oil after cleaning it. As soon as I took my first shot, and noticed the different sound, I knew it couldn't be good for the gun. It's is a cool mod. But I'm not doing it anymore. And this was a much better video than the Taylor video I just watched.

I have a modded benjamin classic. Put it back together after polishing the bolt and used synthetic 10w40 to relube everything. It dieseled for weeks. Was shitty at first but then I went to a heavier pellet to keep them from whipping around and started to he 1-1.5" groups at 150'. Now I just give it a squirt of wd40 into the piston hole every 20 shots

nice informative video did this back in the day {50 } years ago and yes seals got damaged over time BUT you learned and you learned how to repair the rifle not bitch about it and throw it away and i still have the .177 pellet rifle and yes it has a modified spring and ran the pellets backwards

Mine appeared much less accurate when it used to diesel, but I was shooting at about 50 yards, so small differences at this end made much bigger differences at the other end. Mine is a refurb that had too much lubricant and poor seals in it, so it would randomly diesel whenever it felt like it. I rebuilt it with fancy Apex seals, better spring, better trigger, etc. Now it's much more accurate and consistent.

Some 70 years ago (I'm 81) my brother and I were wondering why our Crossman gave a wisp of smoke and a stronger hits after cleaning the piece. Then it will function normally after the 6th shot. We just thought it was just a clean bore that gave the benefit. We used Singer sewing machine oil.

That was an 1145.85 avg on the diesel pellet. Resulting in a 19.27% gain. So almost an extra 20%. Which is really unexpected

I realize you comment is old as hell, but I thought I would answer it because nobody has bothered lol. The short answer, as far as I'm aware, is no. In the legal definition of what a firearm is states directly that there must be a combustion of gunpowder, or smokeless powder as propellant for it to be classified as a firearm. This is actually the major reason why black powder rifles and pistols are legally not firearms. This also excludes gas combustion guns as well, that utilize propane, butane, or other combustible gasses. That's the way it is in the states anyway, there again I don't know where you're from lol.

I just mix in a finger full of white lithium grease in the can of pellets . I think the advantage is more about keeping lubrication in the barrel and sealing barrel pressure . Also the white lithium is great for the seals and moisture. Aka rust

POI doesn't matter. That can be corrected by adjusting the sights Grouping is what matters. When teaching a newcomer, I always have the sights way off zero, so they aren't obsessed with hitting the bulls-eye.

If you want maximum penetration then you must use a solid lead pellet. Since they normally call those things bullets, the next best thing is the solid round ball pellets. The hollow pellets crumble and break up upon contact. the solid lead balls blow straight through. Without dieseling I used a 900 fps pellet rifle and shot a 177 led ball through an 18 pound Canada goose. shot on one side under the wing and it came out the other side under the wing. Must have been at about 10 inches of penetration.

Accuracy will be affected at longer range... This is because 1 at short range the pellets are not flying long enough to go from supersonic to subsonic and 2 the travel time is short enough to limit destabilization from the shape of the pellets which are designed to fly at subsonic speeds... To make use of the effect you could use a heavier pellet which would stay subsonic and in theory maintain accuracy downrange.

A friend of mine did this with his cheep 4,5mm air rifle for many years before it died from getting worn out. It had actually much better accuracy at long ranges when dieseling (50 to 100m / yards). I suspect it was supersonic flight all the way up to that range from the sound it made and the flat trajectory it had.

I have a winchester. 1400fps break barrel nitro piston air rifle. I oil all my EX destroyers and I'm nailing 3 inch targets at 65 yards.. air is more powerful than most people think.

i have an older swiss arms rated at 1200 fps and last fall i killed 9 squrrels with it this past spring i got 3 rabbits but i use a 14 gr hunting pellet in 177 cal. probably lose some sppeed as the instruction say the factory fps rating is done using the lightest pellets available. the light ones would probably work okey on bitrds ot mice but larger game requires more weight for better penetration. speed is not really a good measure where penetration is concerned have some sabot steel penetrators pelletes that penetrate 3/4 plywood but they are about half the diameter of a 177 pellet so they don't create a very large wound channel. not nearly as deadly as a heavy lead pellet.

None Ya yes you can I had a Beeman R9 that was stolen from me and there is a spring kit you can get it comes with a special Grease that you rub all over the spring and inside the spring and the Piston seal just comes off with a counterclockwise turn for the piston and then you can put a new poly seal in there which is stronger than the plastic when it came with it and there's some kind of buffer thing that goes in there too if I remember correctly to quiet it down you don't hear the "twang" of the spring vibrating around inside the weapon it's real quiet.

Interesting test result you need to move your target back further though to see the change in accuracy. I am very experienced air-gunner and the way a pellet is designed anything past 950 FPS most pellets start to destabilize. Depending on your Barrel you may be able to push them a little faster or a little slower again dependent on your gun in the barrel. I just wanted to throw this out there for the new Air gunners that don't know better. Instead of speed you're better using a heavier pellet to gain your power because of the design of the pellet itself. The Diablo style pellet with a pinch skirt should really be maxed about 920 FPS for your best accuracy results.

I only do dieseling on the cheaper of my .22 air rifles, particularly my Benjamin Prowler, which, seems to be able to handle dieseling without damage this far (maybe 30 shots using vegetable oil). Using JSB Hades, up to 80 yards for medium size game, and up to 35 yards for up to 75 pound hogs are quite possible.

I had never heard of dieseling until I watched this presentation. From a physics perspective there are a number of variables that were not addressed. 1) Each pellet should be weighed (yes there can be considerable variability), and only pellets that weigh essentially the same should be used. 2) Each pellet should be inspected to see if there are deformations. If there are irregularities, those pellets should not be used in the test. 3) You may wish to compare the volume of "accelerant." Not all drops are created equal. All-in-all a really fun video.

As a teenager i used to push the peller down the barrel about 1/2inch then put a wad of cotton woll dipped in diesel in behind it. (.22 BSA Meteor rifle) I have no idea about muzzle velocity but it sure made a difference to damage to the target. I had an old locker on it's side and at head hight as a paper target mount. With diesel the pellets would go clean through it. Without it they made a small dent. Usual safety. Try this under at your own risk. I am not telling you to try it. Oh and that old BSA lasted just over three years with that kind of abuse without any damage to it or me before I sold it on. The guy I sold it to never had problems with it too.

If you want to diesel effectively, use under lever air rifles. Far more capable seals to deal with the pressure. Also, pre oil the pellet skirts consistently with the same amount of oil.

During the Allied occupation of Germany, German manufacturers were forbidden to make firearms, including sporting guns. So the company of Weirauch came out with a spring-piston air rifle that employed dieseling as a means to increase its power. It employed ether injection into to cylinder. It did produce much higher velocity, but wasn't successful, due to inconsistent velocity. Do a search on the "Weirauch Barakuda."

I owned a Barakuda .22 air rifle about 30 years ago, it had the either charge tube on the side of the pump chamber and when loaded and cocked a charge of either was squirted into the pump chamber just before firing. I could kill rabbits every bit as well as my Winchester .22, The Barakuda could fire a .22 slug through the end of an apple box no problem, the end of an apple box was one inch thick pine timber. The only problem was I never knew how long the either was going to last but I certainly knew when it ran out. I thought it was a great rifle.

Hmm it seems when using oil the velocity is pretty consistent. A friend of mine used to do this with his 4,5mm air rifle and when dieseling you could hit seagull sized targets at about 100m / yards repeatedly.
