Air Show at Griffiss Air Force Base with the Thunderbirds - 1984

Old Beta cam footage from the September 1984 air show at Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY. Many aircraft from the static displays are seen including a KC-10, B-52 Bomber, green camo A-10s from the Syracuse Air National Guard (The Boys From Syracuse), A4 Skyhawk, F4 Phantom, A7 Corsair II, and more. A fire department demonstration, and flights of a helicopter, Thunderbird F16s and a C-141 Starlifter are also featured.

One of the last duties I had while assigned to the 2845th USAF Hospital at Griffiss just before I processed out in August of 1967 was manning the field ambulance on the flight line during the open house day and having the Thunderbirds flying right over our heads.

I was 6 years old and barely remember this. I do remember going through these aircraft with my family. I can't believe I found this footage. Brings back memories. Wow. I watched this like 20 times looking for my mom and dad :) No luck, but this was a favorite memory of mine. Miss this.

My Dad took me to this air show, I was 8 years old. Our car overheated in traffic on Rt. 49. I went to another air show years later with The Blue Angels. They were both awesome experiences.

I remember this show. I was 9. I lived on Gansevoort ave in Rome. Spent the day prior and after at the observation point watching arrival and departures. All the Griffiss shows were great. Thanks for the upload!

I was just getting to the base at this time (416th CES) and was able to make this air show. WOW what a great memory and one of the best shows I've ever seen. Thank you for posting this gem, it brings back a flood of memories.

Kevin...Were you in Roads and Grounds at The Grif? Seems like I'd seen you at a "Prime BEEF" Recall or Commanders Call, etc...I was also 416 CES, Heat Shop. My brother Phil was also 416 CES, Plumbing Shop ! We gave 'em hell, huh? Great memories!

Paul Lester I was 416th CES Base Fuel Systems. Who else was in your shop? I probably knew most of them. I played on the Football team for CES with several guys from Fire Dept., Roads and Grounds and several other shops.

Wow...hard 2 believe it's been over a qtr. Century huh? I remember Dave Shultz,Mike Billings,Frank Williams,Keith Williams,Paul Brodfuehrer,Karl Woodeschick,Todd White (who murdered a 76-y.o.lady in Utica and went to Attica State Pen!),Tsgt.Jedrosko,Tsgt. Canino,and a bunch of Civilian Employees.

Paul, WOW thanks for some name recalls...I knew most of these guys, sold billings a vintage fender amp that i wish i had to this day. Knew Frank, Grant Womack, "Chief" Shuris?, Neal Clayton, Pat Cox, Mark Jones, Dave Shultz, Pete Durant, Kenny Kurpel,etc. Would love to have a reunion. I wasn't aware Todd White Killed a woman! i don't doubt it. I boxed him in the day room one day and thought he was going to kill me prior to the match and i ended up knocking him down three times. Just think what could have happened. Canino, and Jedesko sound real familiar too. It was a great time and a great base truly a great memory. Any other names you can think of list them. I had lists from TDY's of our squadron members but have since lost them all.

Hi Jim, I was a crew chief at Griffiss when you were a Boomer. You were the Boom on my first TDY to McDill. We lost a generator in flight and had to divert to Warner Robbins to get it fixed. I hope you’re doing well! Ron Shaffer 62-3513 Crew Chief

Grant! Good to hear from you. This is the greatest Christmas present i could have asked for. I was told that you were deceased! someone posted a story about you with the last name spelled Womack. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to hear from you after such news. I am down State Illinois in the Peoria Area, and travel to Chicago often, I was just there This Thursday.
