27:32 PUGACHEV COBRA MANEUVER Thanks for the video, a very interesting and highly fascinating air show (with professional commentators!!!!). I especially adore the beautiful soviet aircrafts! Also great respect for every single test pilot there! The amount of stress and g-forces during a show flight is crazy, especially that F-16 HUD view & original pilot sound was deeply impressive!!!

That An-225 is something else. It could carry 60 Cadillacs? In 1989, Cadillacs were still monstrously heavy boats.

27:25 that was how a fierce and powerful iron angel appeared on the glorious skies of Mother Russia and descended over Paris like a lightning, and at this moment West felt the real terror.

Awesome analysis of the infamous MiG-29 mishap from 17:55 onward until 24:20, immediately followed by an on the spot assessment of the brandnew Su-27 by Neil Anderson. It was the first opportunity the public in the West had to actually witness Soviet aircraft performing. I still remember having been there and then. Do not miss out on the HUD-viewed awesome F-16 flight display (30:17). Thanks for posting.

He downplays the utility of such a maneuver being demonstrated. As if that level of post-stall ability isn't in itself reason to take a closer look at what the Ruskies are doing. Our western dominance blinds us to competition. The blind giant.

After the performances of the Su-27, the US military no longer advertises their planes at air shows, they are now forcibly pushing them to the "allies". Because in terms of maneuverability, the Su-27 was able to surpass only the Su-35/37

Just to start a heated debate, I hope, the Cobra is truly an exceptional manoeuvre and must take a huge amount of skill, however, I say what use is it in normal operations, in my opinion absolutely nothing. Whilst to the lay person it is “Awesome” but to a enthusiast or purchaser it is superfluous. When I see the comments proclaiming it in an almost reverent way I have to wonder why, there are many many aircraft of all types with equally skilled pilots performing manoeuvres equal to the cobra, and in some ways better, but I don’t see any comments about them, I wonder if that is because we expect western aircraft displays to perform manoeuvres that are on the edge of the flight envelope, whereas with soviet aircraft it is new and unexpected, we have been made to believe soviet aircraft are flying trucks that are not capable of such manoeuvres, but that is just my opinion. And FYI I do have a little first hand knowledge of aircraft, 24 years worth. Also if you like the Paris airshow, try Farnborough airshow, it is as good, or up to now anyway, although recent accidents at UK airshow will quite probably have an impact. I am lucky enough to live under the flight path for Farnborough airport and get to see a lot for free. Soviet aircraft are so ugly in my opinion, yes they have to be rugged, but the general lines of are quite boxy and even the curves seem to be angular, ok aircraft are meant to be functional and not just good to look at, but the soviets, in my opinion have taken functionality to far. Going back to the Cobra manoeuvre, isn’t it just like the split “S” in topgun, now I don’t know if that is a real option for the F-14, sorry was as it has been retired, if it was then that would be another thing the soviets “plagiarised”.

Dj Phantom This was in 1989 & vector thrust engine tech was not really there. So it was something quite radical for the time. As a skill it would be upto the pilot to decide if he has any use of it. But its always better be armed with some skill than none. People expect something radical also from the present citizens. Next radical tech to wow a crowd in the sky which is considered radical, would be drone swarm technology. But it looks like S Korean's & China pipped the West to that. With their amazing light drone swarm tech in the sky. While the West is still trying to decide on how many genders are there. 😂🤣😂🤣

Here are some SAAB J-35 Draken ("Dragon" or "Kite"; the name is a play on words) doing the "cobra" maneuver. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJOxZHmrmM-fgMk The maneuver was developed in Sweden in the early 1960:s as a way to learn how to recover from an approaching super-stall. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobra_maneuver#History

@@curiousg3340 No one is invincible. I might be wrong, but I think military demo teams, outside the U.S., may not have the safety concerns and the F.A.A. to restrict performances. Oh, from what I've seen in videos, the Russian Knights are a heck of a demo team. As a matter of fact, the Turks are no slouches either. Just my humble input.

The SU-27 crash at an international air show where the Russians are trying to sell their "reliable fighters." The actual crash demonstrates the Russian's technical ability more than any words could possibly demonstrate. Russian nuclear submarines were called widow makers by the Russian sailors.
