Approx 2pm 5th February 2017.
I wasn’t recording when this incident started but light aircraft Golf Victor Golf called Edinburgh Radar to say that they had inadvertently entered Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) and was making a 180 turn to get back to clear sky. After this failed the pilot requested assistance to descend below the clouds. The audio starts about 2 minutes after the initial call.
The aircraft didn’t show up on any tracking websites so I have made a best guess on the video.
As far as I’m aware the aircraft landed safely at Cumbernauld airport shortly after Edinburgh Radar handed them over.
I have shortened some sections, particularly towards the end.

Wow those controllers were incredibly helpful. Very impressed. Maybe not the world's most crowded airspace but there must be a lot of military and other traffic. Thumbs up.

Bo Abrahamsen it was a weekend afternoon with dodgy VFR conditions so the traffic in the area was very light

And all this time I was expecting a THUD! Glad for once that it all worked out with professionalism and good piloting through IMC!

Hammers home the benefits of letting someone know if you find yourself inadvertently in IMC (wrong forecasts, sudden changes- it can happen to anyone). Don't die of embarassment, get help. So pleasing to see VFR to IMC that ends safely.

"Minimum Sector Altitude" ... don't go lower or you'll hit something that can't move.

@@ClanLawrence - I beg to differ. The first digit and the second digit sound distinctly different. I am quite sure that he reads back “325”.

@@RoadRunnerLaser Each to their own :P The digits sound different because of where they are located. In a group of digits emphasis will always be placed on the first and last. As ATC we get used to specific pilot's voices too.

@@ClanLawrence - Emphasis does not account for the difference heard in this case. Emphasis is rarely put on the first number, especially in a group consisting of the first two numbers being the same. If he was using the unusual, but technically correct RT phraseology of “TREE” rather than “THREE”, I might be inclined to agree that there is a possibility that he said 335 - but he’s not and the vowel sound is definitely “OOO” rather than “EEE”. I bet you I’ve been using radio a lot longer than you have and have used AM, FM, and SSB over the years. I wonder if this is one of those “Yanny/Laurel” situations. ;)

@@RoadRunnerLaser Here we go, "I've been using radio longer so I know better" :P Like I said man, each to their own.
