I am german and married with a japanese man.We are completly equal, both are cleaning the apartment and working. When i cook, then he is washing the dishes afterwards. Also he is very romantic. This is what i love about japanese culture, they are not direct but cute and hot at the same time. They are still gentleman (example: they pay in a restaurant for the woman). In Germany the men are usually not like this.

I think it depends on person honestly. In old Japan, the tendency that men work hard and women do housework was strong. That’s true. BUT, in recently Japan, the tendency is weaker and weaker. And almost all of husbands actively help housework when not working. SO, please think about marrying or dating Japanese man! They are so kind and reliable because they have samurai soul. And I am Japanese. Would someone merry me?😁 I hope the world where a lot of women admit that Asian men is cool.😭 from Japan 🇯🇵

Bro If you really care so much about what they say about your race of men, then you don't deserve a woman. Be proud of your identity. Be a man. Japan is a country which gets claimed as patriarchal society yet acc to a survey, in ten years more % of japanese women said they wanted to be housewives. This means Japan gives choices to women. And respects them too. Even if It's of becoming a housewife. The fact that Japan has a male leadership n workforce and that Japan as a country is perfectionist to the core and has the best tech n other marvels means that Japanese men have high quality. Also they work under high pressure and have to give their work their alll. Keep your head high

•••••••••••••••••••••• Thanks for your encouragement. You are right. There are a lot of Japanese women who want to do their housework. So, that’s not female disdain. And actually, the movement of extremist feminist is a problem in Japan nowadays. They forget the original goal- gender equality and tend to think that it’s no problem that males are discriminated as long as female are protected. They are not real feminists but sexists and not seeking equality but favorable treatment. We have to review what equality is. And thanks to you, I can feel confident in myself as a Japanese man.😉

As a Filipina married to a Japanese man, I have really different experience and here's my take: 1. Gender roles like cooking and cleaning are on a rotation basis with my husband. He got this kind of system as he felt unfair if a woman does everything at home. This probably got picked up when my husband studied abroad (Australia) so his views on marriage and home life is quite progressive. 2. He is super supportive of me maintaining a career as a software engineer and doesn't mind at all if I want to work full time until I get tired of it. That being said, having no kids is the best option for both of us. We did some introspection that our finances and personalities do not match on becoming parents and didn't bother on having kids despite being pressured and ridiculed on both sides. It hurts being called selfish but we would rather not have kids than giving birth to one which is unplanned and would make our marriage miserable. I guess minding our own business really plays large here. 3. Being left on your own most of the times works the best for me as an introverted woman. Being an introverted Filipina is more of a curse in the Philippines than in Japan. Being an introvert gave me more freedom to do things that interest me and so does with my husband. It doesn't mean we don't have lovey-dovey couple time (ofc we have) but having it not overly sweet and 24/7 makes our relationship more of a quality vs quantity thing work. I trust him and he trusts me so there's that. For us, the thing that some time on our own does make our marriage healthier as no one is smothered and we grow more as better individuals.

Also, I did try to learn their language but its just too difficult. it frustrates me even more. My husband keeps on reminding me that I cant work unless I reach to N4 level but until now, I am still in N5. I repeated the whole thing because Kanji is just too difficult for me.

There are divorce statistics available to help us set expectations and decisions. Per the vlog (Japanese-Filipina marriage) please note that this international pairing has the highest rate of divorce (80%-85%). Then look at Japanese and Filipino divorce rates (15% in Japan). By this we can see how challenging one might expect a marriage between these two cultures to be.

I don't know where you got those figures. Divorce ratio of Japanese wife and Filipino husband ratio based on Japanese statistics is about 50%, which is around the average for divorce ratio of international marriages in Japan. Japanese husband Japanese wife divorce ratio is about 33%. Japanese husband-Filipina wife divorce ratio is about 60-70%. Divorce ratio with US, UK, and South Korea is about the same as Japanese-Japanese marriages for Japanese husbands. But it climbs to 50% with Chinese, and 60-70% for Filipina. I do suspect there are visa marriages included in these stats too.
@michaelseeley6546
@michaelseeley6546 2 ай бұрын
@@yo2trader539 Thanks, yes, the answer is always “it depends what you are looking at”. I was going off memory and not worried about being exact. The statistics I looked up varied depending on whether the international couples live in Japan vs. in the home country of the non-Japanese partner. That’s where the 80% statistic comes from (Filipino-Japanese has the highest divorce rate, globally). The Japanese statistics also vary significantly by prefecture. Example, Japanese-Japanese divorce rates in Okinawa are much higher
@michaelseeley6546
@michaelseeley6546 2 ай бұрын
@@yo2trader539 the latest Japanese man + Filipino woman statistic (living in Tokyo, Japan) was 68%. Still the highest rate for all international Japanese couples. The cultural differences are challenging, apparently. Looking at my Filipino family, I can understand why as Japanese men are not known for being emotionally expressive with high verbal communication in marriage. :) happy to be wrong.

I am hafu from NY. My hubby is born and living in Japan. Biggest issue is he is indirect and I’m more direct. I am so giddy (love bug, diehard romantic) and he can be so cool (reserved). And the drinking beer thing we had some issue. Because we got separated in different countries due to COVID and I thought we do not go to bar so not tempted to cheat. He was going to Izakaya Saturday nights and hid it from me to avoid confrontation. He said it’s just a good meal and a few beers and I thought was like an American bar and was like wtf, especially with COVID. Plus he didn’t have a lot of $ so I was paying for major furnishings in our new apartment and sacrificing eating out and he is going to bar?!?! But he kept saying it is innocent and part of the culture. His father was alcoholic who got drunk and got in car accident and died when he was a kid. This video helped so much. Also in the beginning my hubby often stared at some foreign woman intensely right in front of me (even first day we met)and I was like wtf! He said it’s just looking and couldn’t understand why I care so much and say something. He told me many of his friends went to hostess clubs or snack bars (there are also soapland and oppai bars) and flirted with many women and that’s normal in Japanese culture. And some even have sex while married and it’s kind of normal. He assured me he does not do that or go to the hostess club but he felt looking it’s just had a curiosity no problem. Oh another one is many don’t wear the wedding ring but I got mine to reluctantly agree to wear it. We negotiated these things in the beginning before we got married what is important to each of us and what are deal breakers so we can either accept it and marry or reject it and move on if we were not compatible. Oh and one more, when I first tried to hold his hand he pushed my hand out of his twice. He said it is not his style and he is too shy to hold hands. But I had dated a different Japanese man who love to hold hands in public and always reached for mine but he was also very flirty with hundreds of girls on Instagram. I think a lot of these men from Japan Cupid have these issues where they didn’t marry because there’s some reason that turns other Japanese girls off, and one of them I find is that they need to be taught to not flirt with other women and focus on the one they have. My first Japanese boyfriend Was older and more arrogant and unwilling to change. Two years later he came back after me and wanted to start again but I said no because he would tell me even if he’s wrong he still right and if I didn’t agree with him he would just cut me off for days. But he had admitted to me in the beginning he was sadistic. By the way, a nice Japanese man I met on a language exchange site, Told me mostly the lousy men go to Japan Cupid dating site and recommended the best way to meet a decent man is by being in Japan and working at a company or meeting someone through a friend in Japan. Even he was deeply in love with some foreign girl but he was still flirting with me, I do find that in various Japanese men either extremely reserved or they are very flirty, even if married. I’ve had a bunch of marry Japanese men try to flirt with me before I married and I was not interested in removed and blocked them in the end. Some got shocked when I said why would you do that to your wife. I feel that I got close to said they just had no sexual chemistry with their wife but they didn’t want to divorce so they were having affairs with various women and they even wanted to cheat on their mistresses with me just for fun because we felt comfortable talking and social media but no thank you. When I married a deleted and blocked and do not talk to such men, which I feel lot of Japanese men are like that. And these men were not just from dating sites but from some of the Japanese language exchange online sites. Those ones tend to be married and he was language partner as an excuse LOL. And the ones on the Japan Cupid dating site and they tend to have some problem either financial so they can’t attract a woman in Japan or some of them can even be married and they will use someone else’s photo on the dating app, etc. One thing I noticed on JapanCupid dating site is that many Japanese men or Japanese mixed men living in Japan is their photos are usually 10 years old or more order or someone else’s photo. And many lie about their living situation and money situation and college situation etc. etc. Sometimes I feel sorry for my hubby because our culture is a little different and my personality is sometimes dramatic and sensitive and very passionate and I think it is a little bit of a shock for him LOL. But that’s OK because he’s kind of cold aloof personality is a bit of a shock for me. But neither of us can break up and we both say we have to stay with each other forever and ever. I really hope I can become more aloof and read the air better. And I really hope that he can express a little bit more and not to be shy to show a little love when we’re out on a date. And also for him to keep his eyes to me. And talking things out, he said he will be more sensitive and looking at other women and he said he will learn to take my hand more, except where it would be rude in Japan. He said he can handle my direct personality as long as I do not yell or scream or hit him like his previous Romanian wife. And I told him as long as he gives me space to talk and listens to me I am OK. I think also being separated for almost 2 years has caused distress for both of us to the Covid and Japan being very strict to let foreigners in. We weren’t married for the first year in several months but married by proxy because there’s no other way we can be back together again. He got a new apartment for us to live in but I am not able to be there and he said it is very lonely. Thank you so much because your video made me feel not so alone in some of the struggles but overall it feels so worth it. Even though I have a Japanese mother, she seems to have taken on more the American culture since living in NY for almost 5 decades, And I dated men all around the world from India to the Middle East to Eastern Europe and various Americans and Japanese men are the most peculiar but maybe that’s why told you to enter so much more with a challenge to understand tame them a bit LOL.

Hi Hafu! Sorry for getting back to you late. I think you were just scared to lose him because you are in love,and that's romantic. We girls often think of exaggerated things because of love. I thought Izakaya was a bar like those girl's bars ,but it proved me wrong when I went there myself, it's just like a small restaurant where you eat and drink as part of the meal. When your husband says it's part of the culture, I agree, some men because of too much stress from work, they needed an outlet for their stress, so that's where drinking comes in. My husband drinks in Izakaya when he was still single because it was lonely to be alone in the house,but when we got married, I let him drink alcohol in the house instead. For now, Japan is under an emergency state because of the COVID, any restaurants are not allowed to serve alcoholic drinks even at day time, so I think this news will make you feel relieved. About the ring, it's good that you both have an agreement. My husband sometimes takes his wedding ring off because he needs to when he fixes cars. Hahaha that Japanese dating side is funny especially the fake photos. You are a good woman Hafu, you know where to stand and I am so proud of what you did in blocking those cheaters out of your life. It really is hard to be in a long distance relationship, but if you just compromise each other, be open with your thoughts without nagging and hurting each other , that would work things out. If your husband does not talk so much, try to let him talk of how his day was, who were the people he met that day, simple things like that. That way, he might be more comfy to express his thoughts. I know there are a lot of bad rumors about Japanese men, but there are loyal men too. Just have the assurance and trust each other. I know you both can do it. Ganbatte ne!

I like your video very much. All things you mentioned are true. Yes!!!! I am now for 2 years in Japan. Married to a Japanese man. Currently I am totally depressed and seriously thinking about divorce and going to some other more kind country. Marriage sucks. Sex sucks. And I am alone all the time. And honestly I am tired of playing a wife and being a damn slave!! I am from Europe. Basically I came here to study martial arts. Te easiest way was to get married to a Japanese man because of papers. This was the biggest mistake in my life. I started to hate everything. Unfortunately back there I left everything so nowhere else to go!!!

Don't be depressed, don't regret, it was your choice. You need to embrace your choice and life the fullest! Try not look at the past, but try to create a new bright future. Only you can change the future. Please enjoy your life, there are more people suffering with nothing to eat or disabled, or sick all the time in the hospital. You need to be grateful with what you have now and be responsible with your choice.

Well, you hate everything cuz you married him for the wrong reasons bitch. Like what the fuck? Give me a fucking break. Please leave the man and let him find a better woman.

Hi Myri Chan, i am sorry to hear about your situation. I also felt the same way before because we are very different people, the norms, values and culture are totally different. But, I never thought about having a divorce, everything can work out if you talk. My reason for marrying my husband is because of love, but I see yours as different. But, that doesn't mean you can't be happy with your choice. Just look at the bright side, and learn to love your partner. It is so easy to love somebody if you are willing to. Try to fix things up with your partner and tell him what you like and you don't like. He might be also feeling the same way. Marriage shouldn't be just for papers , it should be for love.

Absolutely right! These are the common scenarios Filipina-Japanese couples experience (will experience) but, it still depends on how your household is set up. (Yeah, not all men are the same) but if you do love each other, you will compromise and adjust to make it work. :) at first you'll feel isolated but then you will get used to it...and you will get to know your Japanese partner even deeper as time passes by. Sabi nga nila wala naman sa lahi yan, nasa tao yan, kung mahal mo, you'll make it work and get through it.
