Airbnb at Scale

I am wondering how much traffic does airbnb really need to handle considering most of users barely check airbnb very often. The scaling work for airbnb probably doesn't worth too much efforts.

All these platformized changes, and higher abstraction, and opinionated frameworks, are exactly what my company did in the last decade, first it was very welcoming, and then it became a dev pain to maintain as time went on and org restructured, plus people wanted to do their own stuff, adding other 3rd frameworks, and more polyglot/languages introduced. Imagine my company have just done it now instead of years ago, and using the latest tech in-house or not, the scale at Airbnb will be just a small case comparing to a mutli media enterprise. This is just sad to see. Good preso but sad reminiscence to me. At the same time, I'm sure most of the people working on these changes at Airbnb are prolly my past colleagues.
