Step by step video of how I paint a perch pattern on a jerkbait. Every time I do it it’s a little bit different but these ones turned out pretty good.

I use an Iwata HP-CS (.35 needle) as my main airbrush, a Creos 771 (.18 needle) for detail, and very occasionally an Iwata Neo. I nearly always thin my Createx paints using 4011 reducer mixed 50/50 with UVLS. I keep a 50/50 mix in a bottle rather than just using straight reducer. The UVLS makes a significant difference in how well the paint shoots, how well it covers, and particularly on how resistant it is to scratching when using a mesh mask. For non metallic paints, if I can’t shoot at 20# I consider the paint too thick. The UVLS will help hold your metallics in suspension and they will spray far easier. I almost never get dry tip, particularly with the HP-CS. Used to have constant clogging To clean your tip keep a small bowl of 30-50% rubbing alcohol/water mix with a small sponge submerged in it. Dip the tip a couple times against the sponge and it’s cleaned.

Thank you! This is super helpful. I think my next brush will be the Iwata HP-CS. Seems like the go to workhorse brush most people prefer.

The HP-CS Eclipse is excellent. I got My Creos 771 after watching a painter use one. It’s OK for details, but plugs much easier than the Iwata . I watch a variety of airbrush artists also along with the Createx channel and there’s a reason the HP-CS is far and away the most popular. As I had noted, I’d REALLY suggest making up a bottle of 50/50 mix with 4011. The regular line of Createx covers well, but as you had noted almost all are too thick, almost a gravy consistency
