Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
Today we will take a closer look into the cold weather certification process, especially on the recent newly launched Airbus A220. Why do planes need to get this certification, what is it good for and how is it done.
….
Now, what is the reason for such testing and certification? Mainly, it’s all about the performance of the plane after being exposed to these extreme temperatures, without any sources of heat to prevent the crucial parts from cooling down too far. While resting for the previously mentioned 12 hours, everything cools down to the outside temperature. That brings some issues, starting with the materials an aircraft is made of. When cooled, metal and other materials have the characteristic that they contract. The problem here is, that different materials contract at different rates, meaning that some materials contract more than others at the same temperature. In aviation, a variety of materials is used for different purposes. Contracting at different rates, puts some serious stress especially on structural parts and on the engines.

Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
Wishing you all the best!
Your "Captain" Joe

Hey, a Piper Cub - 65 horsepower, 65 Miles per hour cruising airspeed ( about 102 kph ). Flying at its best. Stick and rudder. Years ago there was a clip wing Piper Cub that did a good aerobatic routine at the local airshows N432X. I haven't seen that Cub for quite a while. Great video, Joe. For an example on how the cold can have devastating consequences if a machine/vehicle isn't built for it lookup the Challenger disaster. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_Challenger_disaster TL;DR: The O-ring seals in the SRBs weren't designed to handle very cold conditions (like it was the morning of the launch) so when they launched anyway the hot gasses where able to breach the seal resulting in the loss of the vehicle and crew.

And, do you are a pilot now. Because, if you are not, go to your local gliding club take practice and make your license. It is the purest form of flying, it is cheap (but you need a lot of time) and it is the first step to become a air(wo)man. And it is almost always fun. With the glider pilot license you can only fly for fun, or make long distance flights and you can do with the propper licence glider aerobatics too.

Just 2 months ago I was talking to an airline pilot that hangs out at my flight school about trouble they were having with pre-flight at Edmonton Canada. While the water truck was stored in a heated garage the rubber water supply hose was left outside and it was so cold that it had become brittle and so it burst when pressure was applied and this sprayed the plane making a solid layer of ice which also got inside the door and made them get out hot air blowers to thaw the latch, the whole deal took like 3 hours. They were only about 3 degrees above certification temperature.

I have a question. How do plan your flight? Are you plotting from one point to another? Do you draw the flight plan? Why are the flight points (the names are so randomized that the name is not even a word) are not perfectly aligned or fixed, and why are they scattered throughout the whole world? Are they randomized? Why every flight plan has a curve path to another dest?

Captain Joe, I been wondering, for some time, if given the right circumstances, taking into consideration the speeds, stresses and strains on the airframe etc. Would it be possible to complete a loop de loop in a big jet ( heavy or super ) . I understand that the aircraft is not designed or built with this kind of move in mind. Purely from a scientific point of view, taking into account the way aircraft are over engineered and over powered. Would It complete the move, stall or simply fall apart ? I have been pondering this for some time and thought I know, I’ll ask Captain Joe.
