I love my damn job. I am an A/P mechanic. I disassemble inspect and reassemble IDG’s all day long. And I just think it’s so awesome.

Always leave overflow container on for at least 20 minutes! The amount of overfilled IDG's I've found recently is ridiculous!

I'm not a A&P tech, but this was a surprisingly interesting video. Well done.

Backstory: due to a combination of factors including improper servicing and design issues, these were failing left and right, grounding planes when they couldn't get spares. The list price is something around $450,000 new. This video is Airbus damage control.

alright, this was a highly educational vid.Which makes me wonder, who makes these vids and is there a way to get a complete set (for engineers). your response would be much appreciated.

Hi!! Nice video!! I have a question about it. How do you avoid that the oil doesn't go out from the idg when you are filling it?, i.e, when you are filling the idg, the oil go to the cooler and return to the idg, while your are doing this, does any oil go out from the engine? Sorry I'm Spanish and I cann't explain it better.

so, the IDG is like a little electrical generator?

The amount of idiots just not servicing IDGs properly is what I found to be ridiculous .
@andyvan56928 жыл бұрын
nice vid, but wish "servicing" didn't mean JUST CHANGING OIL, you should show us how every bolt is removed and replaced (this is what all mechanics call servicing, not what the dealers do- just change oil and give a BIG BILL!!!)
@andyvan56924 жыл бұрын
why don't they just call a spade a spade, it's just an alternator, like the one in your car for goodness sake, why call it an idg? ( or just call it a dynamo).
@NaiBVaiZ4 жыл бұрын
andy van ask that question to airbus technical design department. They know best.😎
@alimohammedhaider66114 жыл бұрын
Because it's not "just an alternator". It's a combination of a constant speed drive unit (CSDU) and a generator. The CSDU ensures that the generator component receives the same input via a complex assembly of gears as can be seen, to prevent wild frequencies/irregular voltage output. Either of these can be damaging towards electrical systems in an aircraft.

For "engineers"? Kidding me right? You guys design these parts and where they go, but sometimes I wonder why not be an a and p and then an engineer. Most of you have no clue of what these actual LRUs do
