Saw the news of the Racer Helicopter First Flight. Looking forwards to seeing it grace the skies.

Dr. Krysiński persuaded Eurocopter management to the project. Polish engineer was appointed head of the team that in little more than a thousand days he make the machine will fly.Machine tłok off on15 August 2010 at 2 pm. It was a great moment for me and for the whole team - says Polish constructor. It turned out that everything is as it should be. And even better than expected.

How do they counter the rotor torque? Do the small props rotate at different speeds?
@xenomorphelv42610 жыл бұрын
yes. even when the props are not used for horizontal speed, they still keep rotate to counterbalance the torque.

I was thinking the same, there have been many cases of people losing fingers to rotor blades on normal helicopters, adding two more like this is just inviting disaster... XD

I ma a bit late but it uses the side propellers to counter the torque created by the main rotor.

ok, but , how much cost ? i want buy 1 to travel for my beach house
@drush52510 жыл бұрын
I was reading some articles on a theory that says the rotor speed must actually reduce as the aircraft increases in forward speed. Something to do with minimizing decompression on the leading edge of the rotor. In my mind I see it as the main rotor becoming only a stability control and not used for propulsion at speed.
@simondm966 жыл бұрын
Rotors at high forward speeds become unstable because they lose lift on one side. The rotor on this machine slows down indeed and therefore needs the two wings to keep it in the air!

It's coming up 10yrs, I wonder what advancements have been made by Airbus...
@CenTexElevators48911 ай бұрын
Well, there is a potential plan for Airbus to develop the X9, which might be a potential replacement for the EC145/H145 in the next 10-15 years.

@@CenTexElevators489 shut up! Don't make me get excited! 😆It's a shame the x3 project didn't become a commercial or at least the tech involved.
@CenTexElevators48911 ай бұрын
@@lexnite22 Oh, my bad. I know that these look like cool, unique concepts, but I think the safety would be very questionable, because of the airplane and helicopter configuration in one, as well as having the inability to be used as a medical air ambulance or SAR helicopter. I still hope that Airbus will continue to make the EC145, since it's a medium, all-purpose helicopter that has a great track record of reliability, similar to the Bell 429 and Leonardo AW169.
@claudebylion99326 ай бұрын
Good looking machine but would definitely be better with counter rotating rotors giving much steadier and faster speed.

Not sure the purpose of this is. It would be dangerous with where the props are located for military and rescue type operations. Sikorsky S-97 Raider is much better design and not much slower.

This speed is still really slow when compared to even moderately quick fixed wing aircraft. Which is why I think aircraft with large rotors will largely be superseded by hybrid fixed wing aircraft with VTOL and hovering capabilities, most likely electrically powered.

Why not use two Turbines out there on those wings? Propellers have limits we have known about for decades. Wouldn't two little turbines providing thrust have been a better idea? Seems it would be a cleaner profile and no additional rotating blades. I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this question and maybe people way above my pay grade already thought that thru... LOL
@LimaRodrigo7 жыл бұрын
Probabily the propellers have some influence on the anti-torque system and maybe a turbin would exceed the rotor stability in horizontal fast speed flight

I don't understand. How could this helicopter break records when the V-22 Osprey is 100 mph faster?
@SoYouThinkYouCanTalk10 жыл бұрын
You could start understanding that the V-22 Osprey is NOT an helicopter, but an airplane with vertical takeoff capability.
@floofy552910 жыл бұрын
SoYouThinkYouCanTalk Seeing how it was manufactured by helicopter engineers and that its main role was to replace a helicopter (the Chinook) how isn't it a helicopter? Why isn't it a helicopter with airplane abilities?
@dquinnc10 жыл бұрын
V-22 Osprey is most like the Sea Harrier; and keeping the engines in vertical position (Helicopter mode) it is not capable to develop much speed. X3 is definitely a chopper, therefore the record.
@michalmilko834710 жыл бұрын
Kenny Yee In horizontal flight configuration it is basically the aircraft and not helicopter :)
@rafalemirage862610 жыл бұрын
A helicopter derives its lift from one or more sets of horizontally revolving overhead rotors. A V-22 could arguably be a helicopter at take off and landing but certainly not while cruising. It gets its lift from the wings whereas the X3 or the X2 both get their lift from the rotor.
