I fondly rememer those toy rockets I had as a kid that used air & vvater & pressure , they vvere fun but didnt go much more than 100 ft & the plastic they vvere made from tended to break easily. I later graduated to model rockets using solid engines vvhich I do on rare occaisions ( vvhen my nephevv is around ) still launch them. Your rocket is beautifull & solidly designed & such a high launch is an amazing feat . TY for discussing its developement & shovving the launch as its kindled a smallbut grovving desire to get back into sucha fun & revvarding hobby. I vvish you even greater success in future launches & TY for an interesting & fun video. Lastly the vievv from on board the rocket vvas spectacular ! Keep up the great vvork !!!

i'm launching water rockets (in france) with my 8 years old son too. i don't have same level, i use soda bottles for 200ft max altitude at 50 psi... it's very impressive to see your result.

Congratulations to this two amazing launches! Dark Shadow is truly a very powerful rocket, and going over 1000psi will push the limits even further. It's also interesting to see how you were able to improve your parachute systems in size and weight. Keep the amazing work up!

Well done! Congratulations on your new record! Probably the height could have been more if it were not for this annoying breakdown of the pad. (We'll have to remember the university course: "Mechanics of a deformable solid body");)))). Looking forward to new videos!

Thanks Water Rockets Club. We'll have another close look on the next launch to see if the rocket is still impacting the guide rail. We're not sure what sort of an affect the guide rail smack has on the altitude.

Congratulations! Just to be more visible for the crowd, it's possible to add a small smoke flare or something like that?
@AirCommandRockets
@AirCommandRockets 5 жыл бұрын
You could, but the point wasn't to be more visible, it was to get the performance. Hybrids have a similar issue in that they produce very little smoke.

@Air Command Rockers >>> The slomo footage starting at 03:16 in this video seems to show the water exhaust 'popping' just after the rocket starts to ascend. Is that _normal?_ Also: Do you use compressed ambient air to pressurize your rockets? Or maybe nitrogen? The scuba tanks tells me you use ambient air, but have you ever tried nitrogen or anything else? If so I was curious what you found out by using it? {Thanks in advance!}
@AirCommandRockets
@AirCommandRockets 5 жыл бұрын
The pop just after launch is the launch tube emerging from the nozzle and the water starts to come out. We use just regular air in our rockets. It's just air from a regular scuba tank that was filled with a regular compressor. We have not tried any other gases, though CO2 would give better results.

Fantastic work. Did you go to one altimeter instead of two?
@AirCommandRockets
@AirCommandRockets 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Russ. We went with the one altimeter this time, as we are not sure when the rocket is going to fail and we don't want to lose 2 altimeters on the one flight/crash/explosion. We know the altimeter gives us fairly accurate readings and because it logs the entire flight we can see if there were any spurious altitude readings.
