Join us for a visit to the Intrepid Museum's Sea, Air & Space Complex on the Hudson River in New York! In this video, we tour the decommissioned aircraft carrier, Intrepid. Includes the flight deck, hangar deck, flag bridge, and a ride on the restored aircraft elevator! Next week we will have tours of the rest of the Intrepid museum (including the space shuttle Enterprise, submarine Growler, and Concorde supersonic aircraft). We tour all the areas open to the public. Many below deck areas are now included in a separate tour limited to only a few visitors for an extra charge. No photography is permitted on that tour.
We love going on adventures to Disney, theme parks, traveling around, finding interesting and historic places, and things to do. Come along with us each week for new adventures and fun! Subscribe to keep up with new videos released every week!

I was in the Navy from 1965 to 1968 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I dated a young sailor from the Intrepid and so I spent alot of time on the ship. Watching the video, brought back lots of memories! Thank you for that! I had a few meals in the crews mess. Food wasn't too bad, actually! Not Mom's cooking, but palatable!. This was a great video!!! Truly enjoyed it!

Wow - that's a great story! I'm glad this brought back some memories for you. It was fascinating talking to some of the vets on the ship about their stories, and learn some of the history of the ship. I'm always interested in some of the shows that detail the daily operations of various types of ships in the Navy.

Went there today and I was blown away! I actually was very emotional because it felt like I was in the 1940’s - 1950’s! So monumental and seeing that my black ancestors operated and serviced this ship!

During the time of Gemini 3 recovery I was A photographer assigned to one of the squadrons that deployed on the Intrepid and I was TAD to the photo lab . I had the honor of participating in some of the photography of the Gemini recovery. That was one of the highlights of my short Navy career. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Beautiful ship. I visited her this. Past December. She's mighty impressive, and we'll designed and built. We're so ahead of our time during her Era. And one thing, pausing the video to check out the Thanksgiving meal, I'll tell you, I'd of rather had my dinner on board with those well deserving sailors, than eat at a 5 star restaurant with famous people. That menu looks delicious. The Navy does everything right.

The Blu Angels aircraft is a Grumman F-11 TIGER. The F-8 is the CRUSADER, an entirely different aircraft. I wish I had a photo of an F-8 Crusader to post. Look up the Crusader if you're curious.

I served on the USS Intrepid, and decommissioned it. This video showed me what a tourist trap it is now. Nothing reminded me of the ship I was on.

Can't argue with you. I am curious though, with other museum ships, have you encountered any that were particularly well shown/preserved better than others? In my own experiences, the battleships seem better preserved to their operating days than some of the carriers.

I was a Sea Cadet in the `70`s and went aboard Intrepid while in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, she was pretty much empty then, glad they saved her for a museum ship.

My family lived on 63rd & Dicks Avenue in Southwest Philly throughout the 70's. Right next door to Mike's Gulf service station. What a great place to grow up as a kid! My dad was stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Base and would take us kids along once in awhile. Or we'd go to the base PX store with mom. I remember going aboard the Intrepid when she was there in Philly. Also got to watch my dad test ejection seats affixed to an elevated rail system that measured how high he went, then slowly let him down. Pretty cool stuff. My mom still has his scrap book of pictures taken while he was doing things like that. Nice to see the Intrepid is still a museum. Thanks for the video tour!

Cool ship, just wish that you could see more of the lower decks, like on the preserved battleships around the country, such as the New Jersey. I would find it really cool to see more stuff that wasn’t associated with aircraft, maybe the fire control for the secondary guns, turbine rooms, or ammunition rooms for the AA guns.

Definitely saw a lot more of the North Carolina (BB-55) when I toured through her a couple of years ago, including engine spaces, and the guns. I believe I saw more of another carrier or two, as well. Was surprised there wasn't more of the Intrepid available to tour.

Pretty cool. It's amazing how big an aircraft carrier is when you stop to think of all the planes and equipment it holds along with a few thousand crew. We visited the museum at the Pensa Cola Naval Air station a few years ago. We spent just about the whole day there exploring. I hope someday in your travels you get a chance to go there. I think you would be impressed.

On the USS Hornet museum in Alameda, CA, you can spend the night on the ship and sleep in the sailors bunks. It costs $100.00 bucks per person, they feed you dinner, they take you on a ghost tour, then turn you loose afterward, albeit, you have to stay on the hanger deck floor and floor just beneath it, but the entire length of the ship, to explore and ghost hunt the entire night. Then in the morning, you get a complimentary breakfast. After putting your sleeping bags back in your vehicle, you can again reboard the ship and take the time to explore the ship during the daylight time. Very fun thing to do if you're ever in the San Francisco Bay area.

@@mrcoaster1: The Hornet does have other nights for kids, but also some for adults. It was pretty cool. Pretty creepy at night though. They turn on these red lights that are down low toward the floor, so you can see in the dark, then turn off all of the white lights. When you walk through the corridors/hallways at night alone, all you can hear is the humming from the electricity flowing through the electrical panels throughout the ship and when you walk alone in the late night, you feel like you're being watched. My team I had taken on the first trip, I had a skeptic in our group. We went into the torpedo storage room and you can see down three decks from above where there are still torpedoes stored in the racks. We took out our phone cameras and recorded with the night vision lights and caught a round ball of light fly through the wall and pass underneath us on the deck below through the otherside wall. When we played the video back, he couldn't explain it. We couldn't see it with our eyes, but the camera and night vision lights caught it. We also caught audio of some young man talking that we didn't hear in the quiet when I recorded with my night vision camcorder. It's very clear when I played it back and said, "Nice going! Now she's upset with you." We never heard that when I recordered it. Lots of other people in the groups caught audio of voices when they played them back on their audio recorders. Really is weird.

I went to the Intrepid Museum in 2012 and again in 2018. The first time was right after they acquired the Space Shuttle. And I got a special experience because there was a new book for sale about the famous Black Sheep Squadron and the author was doing a book signing that day.

I visited the intrepid five times in the 90s before 9/11 and what you're seeing now is nothing like what you was beforehand a lot of the ship was still closed off due to safety concerns Flagstaff was open hanger deck was open you had a walkway back to one of the cafeterias but it was under construction looked at a room going back out and that room was a mess and you couldn't get in do the safety yeah the intrepid was stuck in the Hudson River mud I took him I think two tries to get her out I used to visit her every year for fleet week in the night 1990s 96 to 98 at that time I lived in Mohegan lake New York and I took the train from Croton Harmon train station to Grand Central station then walk across town to the intrepid and space museum one thing this guy mentioned didn't mention was the lighthouse ship they had there back in the 90s

They each have their own unique personalities, and features that crop up over their lifetimes.
