I like this robot concept very much, but if something sounds too good to be true, it suggests scam. (Although with GPT people thought this either.) Water operated robot muscles definitely make sense; if with oil based hydraulics things go wrong, it results in big mess (remember your kids torn Stretch Armstrongs - completely unacceptable at home) and even asks for a fire disaster. (I'd still prefer pneumatics.) Creating trade show prototypes or a daily serviced animatronic is one thing, but strong elastomeric muscles those won't wear out within few days or weeks (try to re-inflate a balloon that many times) will be much tougher. Remember those expanding stretch garden hoses, those were infamous to burst after a month. A rental worker robot that earns more money than its daily service costs may be possible, but for a reliable home robot with service intervals like a car or washing machine, I worry that elastomer development still isn't far enough. (Our body needs to continuously replace cells to keep muscles intact.) Also the servo sensors for positioning each muscle will be complex. This is a new fundamental technology that (as exciting it is) can need decades to turn into something robust.

I'm not worried about AI talking over, I see it filling a more benign/benevolent rolling day to day life, There are so many options which don't include the enslavement or anialation of humanity, that stuff is just fearmongering. However I do believe that Laws will need to be implemented to ensure that those of us humans who wish to work are allowed to work along side of and with the assistance of Synths but that we are also not replaced entirely as the workforce... IE corperations shouldn't be allowed to just replace us cause it's cheaper... Synthetics also need to be designed with servicability in mind to remove the possibility for obsolescence and ensure the preservation of Synthetic "life" (should they ever evolve and gain any semblance of sentiance)

One reason Boston Dynamics abandoned hydraulics is due to safety concerns. Clone Alpha better have "skin" that contains a 100psi water jet if/when a line bursts. Imagine it shoots a jet of high pressure water out into someone's eye and blinds them, or even just causes costly water damage inside a home when it springs a leak at night while the humans are asleep. This company better have massive insurance coverage.
@janegilbert78963 күн бұрын
I guess you are smarter than all involved. Congratulations
@tuseroni60853 күн бұрын
i'm guessing they use smaller tubes with less overall volume of water, to make up for it they use a lot of them, this limits the damage that can be caused by a single line failure.
@Justin_Arut3 күн бұрын
@@janegilbert7896 nah.. I don't claim to be smarter than the engineers at Boston Dynamics who decided all-electric was the best option. I happen to agree with them. But apparently you don't, so you must be the genius in the room.
@Justin_Arut3 күн бұрын
@@tuseroni6085 The pressure is supposedly 100psi, regardless, which is what I was addressing as the safety issue. And it needs to be high in order to achieve the spec'd strengths, including grip. Also, water isn't compressible, so there's that. The overall volume won't be enough to flood the place, but it could leak enough to damage a carpet or upholstery or collectible or short out something like an extension cord, etc. etc. That said, there are probably redundant valves that close off when a drop in pressure (leak) is detected.

Clone Alpha's humanoid robotic system is clearly inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation's Data, the Terminator series, and even the cyberhumans from Battlestar Galactica. It’s a logical progression if we’re aiming to replace humans for consumer and workplace applications. For the average consumer, this robot would be an absolute game-changer-as long as its telekinesis programming and virtual symbiotic human anatomy aren’t misused. You wouldn’t even need to overhaul your living space; adding a charger, as simple as putting one in a guest bed or closet, would suffice. In the workplace, though, things get trickier. For jobs that are highly automated or repetitive, this robot might not outperform existing systems. But in roles requiring a human touch-creativity, adaptability, or emotional intelligence-this robot could thrive. It’s here that Clone Alpha would truly shine, bridging the gap between human flexibility and robotic efficiency. Having symbiotic, cybernetic "Datas" all around could be both fantastic and a little terrifying. We’re already 90% of the way there; what’s holding us back are manufacturing costs, aesthetic refinements, economic viability, and social acceptance. But with the rapid advancements in robotics and AI, I’d give it no later than 2040-maximum 2050-before every household has a multi-purpose robotic assistant for everything from chores to companionship. And let’s be real-by that time, I’ll probably be 70, laughing my ass off while my personal symbiotic robot helps me around the house. Heck, I wouldn’t even need to worry about who’s changing my diaper-although, fingers crossed, it won’t come to that. It’s wild to think about, but the potential impact on employment, creativity, and nearly every industry is massive. When I say every industry, I mean every industry, from the oldest ones to the newest. So, what do you all think? Are we looking at a utopia or dystopia here?

Science fiction becoming science fact. In sci-fi movies...when humanoid androids are damaged or destroyed, they usually all ooze some glowing or neon liquid. So water/liquid controlled muscles is probably not the newest idea being explored...even if we didn't know it, when these movies were made. And the commenter who remarked about personal harm, and property damage, resulting from a 100 PSI hose rupture... Probably ISN'T considering improvements in technology, different viscosity of alternative fluids, expansion/contraction of various fluids at different temperatures, etcetera. While high PSI's may be required NOW, vastly smaller ones may only be required (say, from nothing more powerful than a adaptive pump (heart)...which pumps faster during exertion, and slower when relaxed) in the future. I'm pretty stupid...but even I can see possibility.
