Airfix Last Hurrah And The Last Toy Soldier (Army Men) Set To Be Made By The Company

1/ 32 scale SAS Special Air Service as seen in operation Nimrod (kinda).
This set differs quit a bit from the other two produced by Airfix in 1983 under CPG and Palitoy. It actually differs a lot from all other Airfix sets ever produced.

I was always amazed that Airfix missed the opportunity to cover The American Civil and Zulu Wars. There was a lot of bad judgement in the final years…👵🇦🇺🇺🇸

Effectively they should've made a sniper with the prone figure, and another with a shotgun, given that this weapon generally it's employed to "open" doors.

A sniper would have been great. That´s why sometimes the shotgun is referred to as "master key" that I mention in the video :)

There were two captains in the assault teams (so I have read) but they would have been dressed and armed exactly the same as the troopers so you wouldn’t be able to tell whether they were officers as all the SAS carried side arms. There was a major in overall charge of the operation away from the embassy using comms. Great set, used to have hundreds of Airfix when I was growing up in the 70s but just a bit too old (15) when this came out 😔

I had these at the time. Great sculptures. Loved them as a kid. I was generally never a fan of the running poses in toy soldiers, but this one was excellent.

I didnt have them. As almost always, not enough poses. 80s SAS are a superelite troop close to or even equal to the british commandos. Some more opponents would have been good. Today? Many not Nato 1/3x sets around???

I stay in Riverside California where the hell can I buy air fix 1/32. I grew up in Scotland uk. When I was 11 I moved to California USA and I had 87 boxes 1/32 . Also 60 boxes of 1/72 . I had some cool stuff. 3 huge boxes too come to america. When we got our boxes 4 boxes were missing and 3 were mine,that figures.

So recently Airfix “remade” these within the last 10 years I know because it uses the newer box style. They are the same molds and in 1/32nd scale I’d buy a set But everywhere I look they are out of stock what gives?

They released the SAS set in 2009 (now owned by Hornby) but not in the current sets released in 2021. You can find the 2009 release on Ebay every now and then.

2:49 funny to see how the 8th army guys were slightly smaller than the rest of the ww2 sets and now the SAS guys are taller than the rest of modern sets

I guess it was much harder back then, before computers, to get all of them the exactly the same. Then again we all differ in height but toy soldiers all the same.

Along the Space Warriors, this is one of my top sets from Airfix.

I have two poorly cast figures in my Airfix collection, though not as bad as your SAS guy. Both are Afrika Corp prone machine gunners, from different sets, whose guns were not filled in the mold. They have most of the barrels but not the stands. I also have an Afrika Corp standing firing rifleman whose back was broken I'm guessing when he came out of the mold as he is otherwise not deformed. He has a open crack at the belt line and is bent slightly forward and down in the line of fire, which made him great for putting on a high point shooting down. I also have the SAS set, which are the only modern fighting figures in my collection.

Well all three sets, NATO, Russian and SAS would have been the last sets as no one realy knows which of the three were sculpted last.

Well I don`t think anyone knows which of the three sets released in 1983 is realy the last one. I decided that I want this to be the last one as it`s the coolest of the three. So it`s the last one together with the other two.

Well to be fair they realsed three sets of new figures in 1983 so technically anyone of those three could have been the last set sculpted. But no one knows. So I dubbed this the last one as it is the best and the only one realy worth remebering.

Yes I think they were reissued by Humbrol in 2009 in the red boxes. What I mean when I say last set produced I mean new figures.

When i first saw those i was amazed. I very much love the SAS. They prooved to be very nice. I don't have those anymore either. While your collection grows mine is extinct. However i have five of the large Action figures by Dragon. Those i have. I also have a set of three resin model figure set by Verlinden. I have those too. Not built yet. But those Airfix are great. The laying down figure looking through binoculars i would have preferred if on one knee holding his Heckler & Coch? Automatic and looking through binoculars or some hand signal. But nice figures overall.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️

Just adding the gas mask is correct except the canister should be on the left side. Ive bought the real gas masks back in the mid to late 80s. Ordered from England out of s catalogue. My first ever order from overseas. I wanted to make up a suit but never happened. Way to costly and hard to find. Overalls vest boots impossible. i did get a replica Heckler & coch i still have that but its not the one i thought i was going to get. I noticed there were different versions. Gas mask MK 1 and MK 2. The eye lenses changed to round as did the shape of the mask. Operation Nimrod version mask was similar look to the scoober diver seperate eye lenses. The figures mask is the opp Nimrod. I did get the automatic weapon wrong. I must be thinking of the later updated SAS weapons. Babbling again.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
