I am well on with this. Thanks for your excellent description. You refer to the wing attachments as "flaps." I may be wrong but I thought they were ailerons. In that case they would be posed alternately up and down? Just a thought. Maybe that is what the instruction sheet is staying with its little diagram?

I usually watch Gary’s Stuff while eating my breakfast and every morning while I’m doing that a print of Adam Tooby’s artwork from the 1/48 scale kit, in that exact colour scheme, hangs on the wall beside me! So this morning it was especially appropriate. You are so right Gary. If you are from the UK and of a certain age (!) then the Lightning will always be the king. I know the F-4 was more capable etc. but the Lightning has just got it! A nice build, well done.
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
Only difference is that I've flown in an F-4 but never a Lightning! And the F-4 wasn't exactly sluggish getting airborne. But hey, maybe the guys in the USA get flying, then I win the lottery - then I'm booking a ticket!

I got back into the hobby about 3 years ago and have never built an Airfix model…didn’t know what I was missing! I since have bought 3 that are on the shelf

I got back into it about 18 months ago. And I started with the airfix 1/72 Harrier GR1. A lovely little kit, all their Harriers are good.

I've always had a problem with duralumimi.... duralunini... dural. It was worse with the history of the Zero which used extra super dural yada yada....

For a 1/72 scale kit the model has very good cockpit and internal fuselage details. It did look like you had a fair bit of work to do on the fuselage half seams. I made the Airfix 1/48 scale Lightening and for the metal finish I sprayed it black, sanded it lightly and then used the AK True metal in the tubes. I put it on with a soft cloth and let it dry for an hour then buffed it. It makes for a very good finish and realistic bare metal finish.

I grew up with these planes,with my father working on them for years.Nice build ,they were not realy that matt though,and the nose cone was not silver.Look at the 1961 111sqn lightnings,i think that these were classics.

Airfix has a cracking little model there and you did a great job on it. The cockpit right out of the box is more than decent, I wasn’t expecting that. 😍

I know, and with careful dry brushing you can get a more than decent result pretty easily.

i was an Armourer at GUTERSLOH fom Jan 75 to Jun 77 i worked in the Aden gun bay and the Ejection Seat Bay, my war appointment was as a weapons load team member on either 19 or 92 sqns. i have two of the kits in both sqn markings a great memory for me to keep. Thank you Airfix. from the seats i serviced i had 2 successful ejections Feb 77
@captainmagenta899 Жыл бұрын
I think you must have had a Friday afternoon boxing! The two that I've made didn't have the huge ejector pins on the seat, a much sharper nose cone and had the arrestor hook fairing. I've checked the F2a and F6 (it's the same kit with additional parts) in my stash and they don't have these problems either, except for some more conventional ejector pins on the seat. Still, great job though. It's a wonderful scheme.
@garys_stuff Жыл бұрын
I must ask them about this - I have seen a few instances of the same kit having different ejector pin residues and so on. I wonder if they have more than one set of tools per kit, and if there are any variations between therm.

I once built 3x the Lightning 1/72 from old tool Airfix, Matchbox and Hasegawa as a comparison. They all had little issues but were fun to build. I still have one in stash from Trumpeter. This new Airfix tooling is better than the old. Nice build 👍✨

Hi Gary. Unfortunately there's only one "thumb". I've enjoyed this video and learned something, viz the black primer under the aluminium paint. This is a much more detailed kit than the F1A I built in the old days. I noticed and entirely agree with your "its your kit make it as authentic as you want" I noticed the same sentiment in your vids for kids (no comments allowed) and thoroughly approve. This is one aircraft that does deserve the label "Iconic".
@StapSco Жыл бұрын
Looks good :) I built the starter kit version of this a couple of months ago. My seat didn't have any big ejecter pin marks but had sink marks in the fuselage and fit issues with the "belly" that I wasn't experienced enough to fix.

Great stuff Gary. Only just came across it. Well that's a fib, I have been meaning to watch your vid for a bit Gary as they've flashed up. Health and constant Hospital apps, treatment etc etc just get in the way of having time and remembering is worse if I'm honest. Ive subbed for a while now. Can I just say I haven't got patience for a lot of our community's videos and channels etc nothing against most of them at all but Im quite gutted when I forget. I'm a vet 2x Iraq and 1x introducing ourselves to "Terry Taliban" in Afghan. I had also been to the Ukraine after approximately 2 months after start of them being invaded by those Terrorists. None Military, myself and my Muckas buisness . Mostly contracts we get are Maritime contracts. Cargo Ships, Pirates and so on. But with it being close protection type contracts, we do get quite dangerous and horrific type ones. Usually where other type mercenaries ( No not Football Players, although they are all Mercenaries with no clue what "Loyal" means. ) Other Mercenaries need cleaning up after them. Anyway, our last contract I worked live, out in the field was couple of years back and I sh*t you not, one of the other big wigs close protection team I got chatting too and he was a huge fan of our Wonderful( most of the time) hobby and even mentioned he loves Flory, Genesis, Coen, Al Wood and even me ! I said "Even me, you poor bugger, did you lose a bet ?" Lol I feel such a fraud when someone asks or gets chatting about me etc as my health is tiny and I'm crying over spilt milk whilst theses so many people in the world that is in a way more worse than me !! Anyway, I'm trying to get my motivation and energy back b4 i am worm food and pushing up the daisy's to do another Video'! I have not messaged or emailed a couple of my besties in different areas of the world as there's no excuse to not get in touch. This is why now if you ever see a (sjm) thing in or around my comments it's my sister lol. Stay safe Gary and thank you so very very much for your channel, your views, beliefs, talent and quite simply ....YOU ! Please stay safe and keep doing what your doing. Stay safe to your family too ! Speak soon..... Hopefully !

Hi mucker. Your story touched me. Vet 26 years here too with colossal medical problems too and old injuries from service. I had to have a kidney transplant and have a myriad of associated health problems as a result. All I can say is to take each day at a time. Find a good counsellor and use them. If you have chronic pain get on top of that. Do speak to a Doctor though. Eat regularly and as healthily as possible. You need quality fuel to get well. Make sure you get outside and find somewhere quiet but try to walk there. Personally, and I’m not preaching to you, I found a lot of solace and strength in reflection and prayer. Even if that’s not for you a church can give you personal quiet time. Have you reached out to Models for Heroes? They can point you in the right direction and can maybe share experiences and understand you better than other support groups. I hope you can regain some, if not all, of your former strength and health. Take care pal, Ian
