Hi Nigel - I have to say u have done a great job with the engine framing, panels & the engine itself...All those tips will help model makers at different levels. I plan to glue the bottom panel & will be painting mine without the D-Day Stripes.

Hi Nigel, I’ve bee. Following this build with interest as I’m at about the same stage. I’ve had a lot more problems than you especially a massive step along the wing root are a with the fuse being way too high, but that just a reflection on my skill level_ just one thing about the flaps, you would never see a Spitfire parked up with the flaps lowered unless they were undergoing maintenance. Pilots had it hammered into them to raise the flaps as soon as possible after landing to prevent damage. There were even fines issued by squadrons in the form of rounds of beer in the mess for those who transgressed.

Have to admit to being a bit surprised at the lack of anchor points for the rudder and elevators - that's a major oversight there - I also notice that they included recesses for hinges in the elevators too. However your solution is elegant, coming along nicely,

Hey Nigel, the heat reflectors behind the exhaust stubs are stainless steel not aluminum. Same as on the Mustangs.

Worked on my Fathers Mustang (A68-137) for many years and had the chance to help with a Merlin removal form a RAAF Spitfire Mk VIII prior to it being fully restored to flying condition. I've confirmed the info with my Father who worked on both aircraft as a RAAF Airframe fitter back in the 50's and 60's. I'm also a retired RAAF aircraft technician of 20yrs and did some of my apprenticeship on Merlin 70's

Hi Nigel, given the challenges, IMO you are being exceptionally nice in regards to gripes. There is no such thing as perfection with scale models and part of the interest (at least for me) is overcoming the challenges. Good on you for covering these challenges and providing solutions. It would be easy enough to gloss over the issues and call it good - but eventually those that do - fail on credibility. I am guessing you eventually glued the belly panel and maybe side panels in place for the engine. You mentioned early on that you might try something diff on the belly panel, but you never got around to covering your tech for holding it in place. All good, whatever technique, you fixed the gap issues in bringing together 4 panels all around and then against fuselage. Not an easy job. BTW, the metal colors look great -what are you using?

Thanks Nige for this latest instalment. I’m fairly sure you’ve seen that Royal Mail have had a cyber attack and have advised not to send parcels abroad… Similarly my new friend and colleague from the Czech Republic sent me some spare decals in November that still haven’t arrived (I’ve written them off😔) so there is clearly an issue with the postal service (like we didn’t know) and your 10-14 day turnaround might be optimistic… My advice.. push-on with the other bits & pieces….

Looking at the build on a few channels I will not be spending the £85 for this kit I'll go down the Trumpeter 1/24th scale for the same price, disappointed with airfix.
