As I get older I never lose the love of learning new modeling skills. Now that being said I'm NOT a ship builder so I'm living my love of build through your artistry. So thanks for that. I do the same thing with a guy in Austria. But we message each other off Facebook. I'd support him also but he won't start a channel on you tube. Says they suck. 🤣🤣 cats mind of their own. 🤣 nice hid and go seek.

Fantastic I'll bet its quiet therapeutic like us armour builders with individual track links Thank you for showing us how you planked the decks looking forward to the next update
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Greg. The process is a little like track links, but each plank is different and goes in a different location depending where you want the plank join over a bulkhead... so it’s more like collage.

I'm thinking about getting some of the planking either for HMS Prince or the Royal Sovereign I may do that as a winter build project
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
It certainly would lift the lack of detail in the Airfix Royal Sovereign decks. I have both kits and I think the Prince is by far the better of the two.

Thanks John. I had been searching for one of those blank wood veneer sheets to fix the awful over scale and exaggerated planks on my Revell Batavia when by luck I came across these veneer planks already scored and stained. Been dying to try them out. Glad I bought them and have grabbed some more sheets in other plank widths. I think you would get 2 to 3 ships out of a sheet so they are great value costing only 2 shekels a sheet here.

@@HarryHoudiniModels I have a 1/96 HMS Victorious (Majestic class) that will need decks. Does the pack include any wider planking to joggle?
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
These plank strips come in sizes from 1mm wide to about 3mm wide. A 1:100 scale 10 inch wide plank is about 2.5mm wide.

@@HarryHoudiniModels I am unable to find suitable planks for my 1/96 Revel Cutty Sark! I don't want to buy a custom ready-made deck. The product shown in this video looks beautiful. @HarryHoudiniModels2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chad… at your scale you need 2.0-2.6mm wide planks. My source in Melbourne is sold out of that size and only has the 1mm width left. The product has a funny name, so use that to search eBay and online hobby stores near you. www.bnamodelworld.com/model-ships-boats-general-detailing-sets-artwox-aw50046

Hi Harry, may I ask how any kits have you on the go, started dry fitted, and not fully completed. I understand how this happens to builders and I do have too many of my own, recently a guy mentioned a number, 40 kits. Kind Regards Dave Porter UK
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave.. I have kits I’ve used for videos and started to show the fit, but they go back in the box and into the stash. I have 3 kits out for working on at any time. Usually a ship or boat, an aircraft and some armour. Then there is the Wood ship builds, currently the Constructo Bounty. My Scalemates list says I have 15 WIP... so there must be about a dozen in my started cupboard. Those kits will be next in line to fill a space for the three I have out for building. But every now and then something fun like the Louis appears, then that kit gets priority while I am excited and motivated to build it.
@joecalobeer63963 жыл бұрын
Do they make a decking kit for 1/96 scale? I would love to use that product on my Revell USS Constitution!
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
They make plank widths from 1mm up to 3mm wide. So a 10 inch wide plank in 1/96 scale is about 2.6mm. Just check your model for plank width.

@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are! A little of the Lifecolor Liquid Pigments I used on the other two deck grates bled into the wood veneer. But the effect looks great. I also have a video on staining wood veneer decks, albeit for a 1:350 cruiser, but the principles are the same. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKjOqJ2fpdB7oKs

Hi, The planking is beautifully done, it really worth the effort. I really like your video but I think that the fast forward parts are a bit too fast to see anything, or perhaps I'm just tired...
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
The fast forward section is identical to the method I showed just before.. it’s just a repeat of the method until that area is planked. I thought it would be too boring for you to watch another 5 mins of planks going down. Like waiting for paint to dry.

Don’t forget to work out your scale plank width. The typical 10 inch wide deck plank is about 2.5mm wide at 1:100, 1.7mm at 1:150 and 1.2mm wide at 1:200
@nikolayalabanco65393 жыл бұрын
Why did you use white glue if the planks have sticky side anyways? And is white glue a PVA glue?
@HarryHoudiniModels3 жыл бұрын
The PVA white wood glue allows the planks to be slide into an exact position. The sticky side on the planks gives little movement once they are placed on the plastic. So if you make a mistake it is hard to fix. By adding watered down wood glue you get a little more movement to help align the planks better and correct mistakes. It also helps better adhere the planks to the plastic once dry. PVA stands for Polyvinyl acetate. It glues to plastic and cellulose in wood, so perfect for scale modelling. Even holds some PE parts in place better than CA glue.
