I’ve been doing the 30 second long tones from A up to C and down to F# along with your video for the past year on almost a daily basis. Very helpful in self analysis in embouchure and breath support faults. Thanks for the videos.

Hi Bryan, Great to see you back more regularly again. I've often gone back to some of your lectures on tonguing and long tones. Today felt great, stretching out to 25 secs. What are your thoughts about using dynamics on long tones? A teacher I had wanted me to use dynamics on them. I think I can appreciate the benefits of both approaches, although steady tone seems more fundamental. Thanks for all your teaching.

Hi Pete. Thanks for checking in. We can get to dynamic changes later on. First, we need to get towards playing softly correctly, without pinching. I’ll get more into that next week.

When in your routine do you place long tones?

Where does this fit in my routine? kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4SWmn6Pn72Cebc

I felt like you were running a little sharp, so I checked my tuner and it looks like that is what is happening.

That's entirely possible as I'm not playing with a pitch reference. Ensembles are rarely in tune to the dial, so it's important to be able to listen and adapt. I tune with my ears rather than my eyes.
