BOEING 747 LANDS ON AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER! (I call Bullsh*t) - FSX Multiplayer Chaos

A Flight Simulator X (Steam Edition) multiplayer session around San Francisco turns into a landing competition (kinda) on an aircraft carrier off the coast of California. The vast majority of pilots fail miserably while attempting to land except for a suspicious Boeing 747 pilot who is able to land and takeoff from the carrier with ease, but I call BS. A few years ago at our Air Traffic Centre, we received warning that an undisclosed number of US Air Force B2 Bombers would be crossing our FIR [Flight Information Region] at a particular time on a particular day. They would check in with us as they entered our airspace and check out again as they left. They gave us the callsign to expect, and the route was known, so it was logical to assume that they would contact us at a certain time at a certain place. The callsign and reporting points have been changed to protect the innocent. Being the then famous new 'Stealth' bombers we would know little about it but they would pay us the courtesy of letting us know they were there. Eric, a very capable controller with a keen sense of humor was on position, and heard, "UAE Area, this is USAFB2. This is a courtesy call advising that we are about to enter your airspace." Eric replied, "USAFB2, welcome to UAE Airspace, we have you on radar 200 miles out over LOTUS, hope you enjoy your visit." Without thinking the Stealth Bomber replied, "Thank you UAE, it a pleasure to be... Wait - you got us on Radar? 200 miles out? You shittin' me?" "That's affirmative USAFB2," said Eric, "I'm shittin' you. Enjoy your visit."

that guy This is because the F18 cannot actually land on a US aircraft carrier in real life. Well, it can, but only through the use of arresting gear. Essentially, there is a hook on the bottom near the back of the F18 that needs to catch a wire to actually land. This wire will stop the aircraft from going overboard. Without it slowing the aircraft, it could never land on the deck. You should watch a video of an F18 landing and watch for the wire that gets caught and pulled by the F18.

If the carrier is underway, taking off from fore to aft your aircraft has to overcome the fact that the carrier is cruising at 40 KTS +. The same with landing from the bow to the stern you have to contend with a 40 KTS + tail wind. The proper approach is to fly down the starboard side of the carrier with the superstructure or island, off your left shoulder for a mile past the bow turn left and fly the down wind leg along the port side make your left turn to final to intercept the meatball the center light on the Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System at a quarter mile out and bring her in on the center line of the angled portion of the flight deck. Giving you a clear area to take off in case of a bolter or missed arrestment. " LSO to pilot on approach, " Hornet 112, quarter mile call the ball." Pilot responds, " Roger ball." When he makes visual contact with the ball. If not the red lights flash and the LSO calls, " Wave off, Wave off!" And ya get to do it all over again.
