Looks like a great gun if you’re starting out in the PCP game, but someone who’s been shooting them for years, having a regulator is a must period. Trust me if you’re starting out I recommend a good quality airgun, you’ll want one in the long run.

If you remove the plastic cap beneath the bolt handle you can insert a 4mm Allen key to dial up to 29.5 ft/lbs!

I love my Urban. I've worked hard with it. Great at 100 yards now with great velocity. Yes I've sacrificed some shot count but I'm a sucker for power and accuracy! Great video Rick! 💪

Thanks for updating a review of the Gamo Urban. I bought my Urban three years ago to pest harassing sparrows from my bluebird nesting boxes. I also own a Diana 34P breakbarrel in .22 caliber but have just never been able to master the sensitive hold. This spring I have taken out 17 sparrows from the nesting boxes which resulted in two successful broods of bluebirds and one brood of tree swallows. Most of my shots are 25-35 yards and I've found the JSB 18.13g pellets to be the most accurate. I have also taken out 3 woodchucks with single well placed head shots. Those are tough animals and the Urban had plenty of juice for clean humane kills. Yes, the mags are $50 but they are well made by BSA, not cheap Chinese junk made of plastic. Good magazines do cost more. The Urban's mags are priced in line with other BSA airguns, as well as Air Arms or Daystate. I've only ever need one mag anyway. I still believe the Urban is the best quality and value of any of the entry level PCPs. My Urban has performed flawlessly and I couldn't be more happy with it. It's a pesting machine. 😉

With the exception of the cover plate and the spring the mag IS plastic, and my mag's red core is splitting around the edge where the material is very thin.

Thanks brother. Would you do a video on this rifle with the Huma regulator installed? I think that would be a very good video for Airgun Web. Huma does make a reg. Specifically for this rifle.

By the way, just as a point of mathematics, -3 dB is one half of the sound power. -10 dB is 10 times less sound power. The human ear can detect approximately a 3 dB change in sound power, either up or down, either a +3dB, or a -3dB change in sound power. A decibel is one tenth of a Bell. A Bell is a base ten exponent. So, 10 times 10 equals 100. Notice that there are 2 "tens" multiplying on each other? So, it's 10, raised to the power of 2. It's 2 Bells. A decibel is one tenth of a Bell. So, 2 Bells are 20 deciBells, or 20 dB, or 100 times a change in value. It can either be 100 times more (+20 dB, or +2 Bells) or it can be 100 times less (-20 dB, or -2 Bells.) Just as a point of mathematics, I hope this helps.

I wanted one of these when I got my first PCP. Unfortunately they were back ordered (still are), so I ended up with a Walther Reign instead. I’m pretty happy with that, but still want an Urban when they finally become available.

Got the Urban finally and have been shooting for about 3 weeks. It's a fairly accurate rifle out of box. But you'll definitely want to do a trigger modification to tighten the groups a bit. Should be getting dime sized groups at 25yds. For more someone wanting tight groups at longer ranges I'd get a regulator. You'll probably want that for shots that are a bit further out. Much better consistency with velocity.

Well-done, Rick. Very fair, all-around. I had a Coyote back in the day; I loved the action and accuracy, but didn't like the forward cant of the pistol grip; it wasn't comfortable, most of the time. This seems tuned down a little or maybe just has a bit shorter barrel. I do prefer a proper pistol grip, these days.

Thanks for the review Rick, I'm aiming to buy this gun here in the UK but I can't figure out if it 's called the Gamo Phox or the Gamo GX40 over here! Those are the two over here in the UK that appear to look like th Gamo Urban. Can you or anyone on this forum please give me some insight into this? Thanks!

Some things did sound it is a bit on the cheaper side of the PCP range. But I'd gladly have one. Like that low installed scope setup. Won't bother me much if double feeding is a possibilty. The size and all would suit me well. I kinda like the overal design. But I probably never get one...

I love all the AirgunWeb/Expert Airgun Reviews people and the materials that you guys produce, but you may have overlooked a feature that really adds value to this gun. It may be because you didn't know or because it isn't advertised or promoted by the company and you don't want guys possibly voiding their warranty (don't think it would personally). The great deal about this gun is its 16 turn adjustable hammer spring pretensioning screw. You have to take the stock off to access it THE FIRST TIME and after that you should be able to see where a carefully drilled hole will give you access without disassembly, if that's what you'd like. People I've pointed this out to have down-tuned their power to make the gun whisper quiet and they get 15 mags on tank pressures that are easily obtained by hand pumping and with accuracy that is great for 25 yard plinking with easily obtained and inexpensive pellets. On the other end of the spectrum, I personally have increased the velocity to shoot 25+ grain Monsters in such a way that I get a 20 shot string from 2950 psi down to 1900 psi that has an extreme spread of 11 fps. That's pretty impressive for an unregulated gun, don't ya think? I've done all sorts of experiments with both of my Urbans, using many different pellets and you can tailor the performance to achieve many different results. And just for the record, I found that my .177 Coyote has the same 16 turn adjustment and can make a light pellet really scream. My next tests will be to see if I can get .177 slugs to stabilize at the Higher hammer spring settings, or.......Airgun Web could make a video on the subject, since that's not really my bag. The CAT trigger that you spoke of is only slightly adjustable, as you pointed out, only because it has a lawyer approved adjustment screw. If you go to a R/C model hobby shop you can buy a 10 mm long Allen screw that will replace the one on the gun's trigger and allow you to CAREFULLY reduce the sear engagement, once you UNDERSTAND what risk that entails, and you can get a really nice light trigger pull. I know I don't need to warn you, Rick, but this is for your subscribers, if you reduce the sear engagement always cock the gun UNLOADED and bang the crap out of it to make sure it doesn't fire from a drop or hard bump. These are great guns and I hope what I've said sways some of you that may have been on the fence about buying one.

Hi John (Halfstep). I have never found a need to adjust the power level in my Urban. Like I said above, I have taken 3 woodchucks with clean humane kills. I did replace that 8mm length trigger screw with a 10mm to eliminate the excess trigger creep. I filed the screw down to a 9mm length and it's perfect, no creep and nice and crisp. See ya in the blog. 😉

@@timmy4539 I want to first say that a chronograph is going to be your best friend with any gun that is adjustable. Get one and you will be able to set your gun up to give the best results for both power and accuracy with pellets of different designs and weights. Having said that, with my Urbans, they came set at about 8 turns in. I tested them with 14.3 grain pellets as I increased from 8 to 10 to 12 turns, etc. At the highest velocity that they provided I averaged the results for 10 shots and I can give you that info, if that helps. At 8 turns (factory setting) I got a 10 shot string that averaged 813 fps and the string before that was 812 fps, so call it 20 shots at 812.5 fps. At 10 turns the 10 shot string increased to 832 fps and at 12 turns the 10 highest shots averaged 850 fps. The 12 turns actually gave me 20 shots that averaged 850 fps, which is a really good result for a unregulated gun. Get a FX Radar chrono and half a dozen quality pellet types and you will be amazed at how powerful and accurate you can make this gun with the spring adjustment, along with being able to tune it down to get lots of accurate shots in your backyard with a nice easy fill from a hand pump. Speaking of easy filling, the 20 shots at 812.5 fps were at a pressure of 2300 psi down to 1550 psi. The 20 shots at 850 fps were from a pressure of 2600 psi down to 1650 psi. Both of those are easy to achieve with a hand pump, which is the cheapest way to go, but is hard to do when the required pressure gets close to 3000 psi, especially if you don't have a beer gut to throw down on that pump handle, LOL. I hope that was the info you wanted.

Question, Ive heard of potential inconsistencies with break barrels vs fixed barrels, is this true? If so, is there a reason why break barrels are still being produced? I can imagine a lot of effort goes into these rifles in the 2020s so maybe the droop isnt an issue anymore. If under lever is the answer to avoid these inconsistencies, why even bother with the break? Thanks for input

I repeat do not buy this gun people !!!! It’s cheap crap the only good part about this gun is the barrel but one problem !!! The barrel clamp that secures it at the end near the fill area is loose and wobbly out of the box. The barrel can move about from left to right and up and down. This is my second urban and it has the same problem. Get a air Venturi Avenger Spaniards yet again making a junk air rifle.
