BARRA 1100Z .22 PCP Airgun - Part 2, 25 yard Pellet Testing, JSB, H&N, CPHP

It’s time to start pellet testing with our BARRA 1100Z .22 PCP. This $300 PCP has already impressed us with its ability to shoot sub 1” at 50 yards. What’s the best pellet and exactly how far can we push the BARRA 1100Z? Well, that’s what we are going to find out. Today we’ll be looking at some basic pellet testing at 25 yards as we start to drill down to what pellet will give us the best results.

Worth mentioning, when you're talking about a pellet being a little more expensive than CPHPs, we're talking 3x the price and only available online with close to $10 shipping. Some of us got into airgunning because of the ammo shortage. It's nice to know how the CPHPs shoot. They're fine in a pinch, especially when some rifles shoot them better than the more expensive ones (and I've had some like that).

Nice shooting Rick! Thanks for starting to include some budget pellets in your testing. Please get some Crosman 14.3 domed pellets. They are substantially more accurate than the CPHP in 95% of my air rifles and especially at longer distances. Crosman also has 19g Ultra Heavy pellets. For comparison those do well in a few of my higher FPS rifles and might do well in rifles that like the 18+ gram pellets.

If you could Rick find the best low cost pellets. then four of the higher priced pellets . then the best slugs Then maybe once we can be closer to finding a pellet and slug that will work best in ours. Thankyou so much for all the time and effort you put in to these rifles and reviews for us

Hey Rick. I'm so glad to hear you reference the trend on h&n lead being harder than jsb. I have long suspected this to be a contributing factor in why I have 2 relatively accurate guns that will shoot fantastic with Benjamin(which I understand to have the same higher tin content as their Crosman counterparts) and h&n pellets, and thoroughly poop the bed with known quality jsb offerings. Not knocking jsb lead at all. Just saying I've had a couple guns that seem to show this trend pretty consistently and long suspected it was related to preferring a "harder" pellet.

If you take away that crazy flyer, the baracuda 18's looked really good, my prediction is they will shoot the best at 50yds. Do you think you are getting hammer bounce with that rifle? it sounds like it from your audio recording.

That "boink" though...😖 Is that hammer bounce? Is it rectifiable by the user or factory revision? I mean, I understand to many it's a petty quip. But that alone would make this platform a hard no for me. Not knocking the gun, seems like a great value for what it does. But that mechanical fart would drive me crazy.

...lol...I'd settle for springer twang over this. Ever since he introduced this gun weeks ago that sound has not gone away Barra needs to fix that sound. Not sure if adding a moderator is going to fix that sound?

Does yours make the hammer spring bounce noise? I noticed when Airgun Detectives reviewed it his wasn't making the sound. But I know he had the hammer spring turned up whereas Rick here doesn't which might be part of it?

I hope when you test Gamo rifles in the future, (Gamo Coyote Whisper) you and Angie will test some Gamo pellets too. The Gamo Combo packs are only $18-25 for 4 different types in tins of 250 pellets. The only thing 3 types are 15.43 gr and of the 3 types 2 are pointed. Gamo, just a thoughtful request, please change your Magnum pellets to 18-19 gr. round nosed pellets!!!

Hi Rick, another great video with alot of good info. I always look forward to seeing your new reviews. I bought the .177 cal version and it shoots good grouls at 10 yards in my basement. It's a standard 1/2-20 UNF thread, so any moderator/suppressor threaded that size will work. There's a guy in Texas that 3d prints them for pretty cheap look up Buck Rail

Barra now sells the regulator by Huma on their website under accessories. It's not cheap, it's $100.00.
