Yeah.....Sure the horses role in the story is to be the allegorical representation of the Human Will but like....Things still a dragon, and humans with enough will power have done both incredible and fantastic things and others terrible distractive ones. So therefore the dam horse should have at least went "You know what time to join the fight" when ever it looked like things where not going too hot or Tripitaka needs to be protected/saved.

I'm currently 400+ page's in. Nearly done volume 1. And honestly, not at all a dry read. It's REALLY good. VERY entertaining. Also when they first got attacked by bandits the bandits were like "give us your goods." Monkey: "aw look master! Some volunteers are looking to donate us close and travel money!" Tripitaka: "Wukong, are you deaf, their robbing us..." Monkey: *pulls out stick.* "Oh you sweet summer child~"

Also, when the monk burns down the temple. Tripitaka wakes up, takes off the magic blanket. All around, he sees fire, smoke, people on fire running desperate trying to save things, or put themselves out. The air filled with cries and screaming. The fire is burning, so brilliant, it can be seen from 200 miles in all directions. lighting up the night sky. He is stunned and horrified. And then he sees Wukong is just... smiling at him. Eyes glowing red. "Good morning, Master~" I laughed for a sold minute. The readers have the full context. We know he didn't do anything (accept set the winds against them). But YEAH. This poor monk, trapped with the most SUS MF in all of ancient China.

Fun Fact that other people have not noticed. This story teaches that murder is wrong (except in some scenarios) and that torturing others into compliance is perfectly fine, if they disobey you.
@augustrempelewert4377
@augustrempelewert4377 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, subjecting someone who single-handedly waged war on Heaven and would have won if not for the Buddha's intervention to a nasty headache for a few minutes in order to ensure that he'll listen when told not to murder people is not quite the same as, say, torturing your friends into letting you choose the movie for movie night. The moral of the first episode was that powerful individuals (who aren't the Big Good) must be dealt with carefully; you definitely don't want to provoke them, but they also need to have some sort of check on their power or else they'll make the world a frightening and miserable place for everyone else. That's what the thing is for: now there's finally a check on Monkey's power that doesn't require the most powerful being in the universe to personally intervene.

He could've beaten Sun Wukong, but he instead chose to make everybody else fight the guy (and lose) on his behalf while he fussed ineffectually until eventually the Buddha himself had to intervene? That's disgusting. Characters who are fully capable of solving their problems on their own shouldn't be allowed to spend all of their screentime complaining. Is there at least a thing where the power he'd need to use to beat Sun would've had catastrophic consequences if he'd used it as anything but a last resort? Then he could maybe be excused.

If you think this story is ludicrously deep and insane so far, buddy, you ain't seen nothing yet. And I have to mention how much the "enormous f*** you dragon" line got me laughing. Also, you accidentally skipped over Red Explaining that Xuanzang is "the sun of an emperor, has been raised as a monk his whole life after being Moses by his mother, and he's the reincarnation of Golden Cicada, an original disciple of the Buddha and a holy being." Also, that he was chosen for an enirely different task by his fellow monks, namely to present a memorial to the tang emperor. All that is kind of important knowledge for later.

Surprisingly, most of the silly and goofy things in the summary are actually in the book, like Monkey accidentally shooting laser eye beams into heaven right after he spontaneously popped out of a magic rock. Red didn't just make them up for the videos. Also, as the name indicates, the focus of the story is on the JOURNEY to the West. There are a load of ways to get the macguffin from point A to point B with very little effort, but in order to achieve their personal and spiritual goals the pilgrims have to undergo the arduous journey and face all of the trials and challenges along the way. So it's not that the dragon horse forgot that he could fly, he's just not allowed to make it too easy. That's also why Kuan Yin can't just drop the scriptures off herself and why Monkey can't just fly Tripitaka westward on his cloud.
@1Katakana
@1Katakana Жыл бұрын
Since your mishap with the play button caused you to miss this part, Red reveals that the monk character is the grandson of an emporor, he's raised as a monk after getting Moses-ed by his mother, and he's the reincarnation of the golden cicada, which was a original desiple of Buddah and a holy being. He gets choosen for being so good and virtuous by some monks who gives him 2 gifts that Guanyin gave to them (the robe and the staff Buddah gave her) so that they in return could give it to the most worthy person (aka the monk).

And they know that in-story, too. Wukong at one point remarks to Pigsy that if he were to go by himself, he could jump to and from the monastery over a dozen times in a single day. But because the whole point of this pilgrimage is for a human to refine his spirit through hardship (and at the same time teaching morals and responsibility to his three demonic bodyguards), the Buddha would not give Wukong the scriptures if he came alone.
@drizzmatec
@drizzmatec Жыл бұрын
While living in heaven and before getting assigned to watch the peaches Son Wukong would just go around and have tea and chat with other heavenly spirit, so we can assume that he was on relatively good terms with some of the heavenly court. Also, if a super-powered monkey whose rampage in heaven could only be stopped by the Buddha himself, just swings by and asks to borrow something, you're better off just giving him what he wants.

2:37 it's..... kinda complicated, basically the name Sha Wujing (which means "sand aware of purity") is derived from the river where he was living in, which in turn translates to "great sand river" despite said river being made of water. The simplified translated versions of the story give him the nickname "Sandy" (as well as some others, including but not limited to: Friar Sand, Sand Monk, Mr. Sand, Sand Ogre, Sand Monster, and strangely enough "Water Buffalo")

But when he had it he not only realiced that it was expensive, but also holy and Not meant for the likes of him. Sooooooo he banged his head against the Ground, killing himself. Arirer, silk robes back then would take gold to buy the material. Unless you were of nobility, work for nobility as a court official, or were extremely rich, you likely did not wear silk and probably get executed if you got it dirty. I mean making silk requires taking the silk webbing of silkworm cocoons. Magical robes embroidered with gold would equal probably equal the price of building a palace.

sun wukong is actualy immortal 8 way. 1. Being born the Stone monkey (Chinese ancient animalism). 2. the 81 Transformations (daoism), 3. crossed from the books of the Dead (chinese folk religion), 4. Immortal peaches (a thousand times over/konfucianism), 5. immortal wine (multible bottles/konfuzianism), 6. pills of immortality, (docents/daoism) 7. being cooked in lautzes brasier (daoism). One of the ideas of the journey is that wukong needs to reach an 8th type of immortality and true immortality by doing so. 8 being a mystical number in buddism in contrast to the 9 in daoism (base of 81 transformations 9*9.) At the same time there is a strong implication that the buddist immortality it the only true immortality.
