I used to work for fedex and i can tell those fish arent packaged correctly to their terms. There should be no movement inside the box. the bags shouldn’t be able to roll around. Also the cardboard box should be inside another larger box with 4 inches of void filler. All packages should be able to survive a fall from like 7 feet or whatever their specific height is. Basically you should pack as though it will be thrown on the ground. I would just buy plastic totes for these large fish boxes. Better safe than waiting on insurance to decide they wont pay out.

Unfortunately the transportation part of it is out of our control. I’m sure everyone dealing with live animals does the best to ship them safely but there’s always that small percentage that tings can go wrong.

What a tragedy. Sorry for your loss. It happens to me sometimes too. Abd it is just not about the money. I get upset about the fish,as an animal lover. For the last 10 years as i am in this business,i lost more than maybe 15 monsters. It is always very upsetting no matter what. Hope you will never face that kinda loss ever. Wish u the best.

Get your shipper to label heavy boxes as [[HEAVY]] and use a strap handle if they know how to make those with plastic straps. It's still not a guarantee the baggage crew won't mishandle them but even a 15% improved chance is worth paying for a few stickers and a strapping machine.

I'm not sure which video, but in one a while back, they got in some huge bichirs. Like HUGE! Lol. Maybe someone else will know which video it was. They get smaller ones in some of their normal shipments also, but those big ones were so amazing to see. Never even knew they could get that big before that. I hope you can find the videos with them in it.

it's cheaper, lighter, and a great insulator. You get large wooden boxes then you're gunna run into shipping troubles because wood is definitely like 3x-5x heavier than Styrofoam while being a shitty insulator for the trip which means you're gunna have to order insulator foam along with it. But this also is a risk in shipment because the heavier it is, the harder it is for the employees to move at shipment who are, mostly but not all, paid by the load not by the hour. Quicker you get it done the more you can do and the more you get paid which means shittier care for the packages, to it loaded faster. What does that mean? It also means careless forklifts will be needed to lift such a heavy shipment and idk about you but I would NOT want someone forklifting my fishes or any animal with a mentality of getting it done asap. The only person you can blame are the careless employees who ignore the "LIVE FISH" logo on the boxes and companies paying by load vs hr, cant tell you how many times these are ignored. Wish there was a shipping company specifically ONLY for the animal trade; any billionaires want to invest in that idea? That's honestly such a huge money maker there wait..

Unfortunately it’s not cheap shitty boxes. These are boxes available. A box this size is around $600 in freight. The only other thing bigger is a wood crate and that’s a whole new set of problems. Some airlines don’t even accept anything that large and heavy. The box would have been fine if it never got tossed around and was properly handled like it should.
