This show is simply underrated. I love all the discussions about flying and ownership. It is so informative no matter the viewers skill level.

Great information! Never thought about logging maintenance as a credit to getting IA.

Great episode; solid guest, and discussion. After watching each presentation, I enjoy “chair-flying” the show by listening just to the audio, like a a podcast, while working. I’m usually surprising myself with what I may have missed the first go-around. Keep up the consistent work! 🇺🇸✈️😎👍

This is one of the best videos you have made. That logging time for maintenance can lead to IA or AP is great. Thanks for sharing.

As a new aircraft owner I’d like to see how everyone else keeps and tracks maintenance and log books with ADs.

This show remembers me my Aeroclub in Palermo in Italy, we have inside the hangar a recreational room with couches and a fireplace, often oldest pilots telling stories, sharing experiences, and young pilots listening like nephews with granpa.

I love these videos. I would like to see the same topic in relation to Experimental and Light Sport applications. Who can do what and who can sign off on what.

Yes, lots of un-answered questions about Experimentals

Any a&p can do the annual condition inspection dosent have to be an i.a an other than that owner can do whatever maintenance theyre comfortable with dosent even have to be the builder

The list provided by the FAA of things a pilot may do is not all-inclusive. Meaning we can do a lot more then the ~30 items on that list. Please research the The Coleal interpretation by the FAA. This explains that pilots under part 91 (GA) may do much more then what is listed.

Just doing a few years of preventive maintenance will not qualify you for your mechanic certificate. You will need documented proof signed by an A&P of doing more complex tasks as well. And the hours will need to add up to the required amount. Only doing simple preventative mx on your own airplane will never get you there. No matter how many times you do it.

Interesting discussion the mechanic is right do you have the "CURRENT" manuals? However, are the manuals current in the cloud? Do you have the proper tools (torque wrench calibrated). Preventive maintenance is fine but owners must have the same tools and equipment as the A&P part 43.13 rules calls this out. Too many owners do “maintenance” and never record it. Recording maintenance is a major issue and part 43.9 requires it for owners as well. Using KZbin as a maintenance guide is really bad sorry to say.

@SFilmsTakingOff Another great episode! It would have been better if Dan had some examples of a proper verbose log entry.

Bill forgot to mention the responsibility's of entering and signing for maintenance carried out. When you sign something as done you are responsible if anything untoward happens to that aircraft from your work.

Okay, what about those of us who own aircraft without factory service manuals?
@petercrowhurst5 жыл бұрын
get one from the factory or approved publisher
@alanaspurling64695 жыл бұрын
No, I mean the factory never produced a manual for my aircraft. I own a Piper Pa-22/150.
Was looking forward to hearing some specific things an owner could do but nothing was covered. Still enjoy the show 👍🏼
@corvairchris825 жыл бұрын
I would be willing to bet the reason they did not state specific tasks an owner can perform is due to liability. Someone does a task on their plane and something was not right, the owner says the I saw this on you tube and Dan said I could do this.
@ericbuhrendorf5 жыл бұрын
Corvair Chris I doubt that since the host (forgot his name) is a CFI. Plus disclaimers do much to head off liability. I’m guessing they wanted to do a high level coverage of the topic rather than sink their teeth on the specifics and keep the video length to less than 15 min. Also the reg is specific and had they just read the reg, they would not have had any liability exposure. Maybe they’ll weigh in here why they didn’t mention specific maintenance items.

@@ericbuhrendorf dont be lazy and read the manual of what you can do , they mentioned using you tube for "learning how to" . Also Bill did mention things you can and also cannot do .

Christy is an accomplished pilot with over 1,500 hours, I believe. CFI/I, Instrument, Commercial, and Type-rated in a regional jet. I certainly hope the comment was in jest.
